Calls to Swap our Rd 01 Game to Marvel

This will be decided by the AFL who are worryingly accustomed to fixture merry-go-rounds courtesy of COVID last year as well as maximising any opportunity for additional revenue. I believe their priorities will be (in order of importance):

- AFL revenue (attendance)

- Broadcasters revenue

- Essendon revenue

- Marvel

- MCC

- Lol

- MFC revenue

Correct. With one exception. MFC is not on the list at all

I can't see anybody is playing at the MCG on Sunday. Why don't they just move the Essendon game from Marvel on Saturday to the MCG on Sunday? (I'm sure there's some broadcaster issue......)

That's the thing, there isn't a broadcaster issue if they agree to switch the GWS V St Kilda game to Saturday night.

Both games are on channel 7 which works out fine.

The only thing is GWS and St Kilda would have to agree to playing the game on Sat night rather than Sunday.

When it's all said and done, I don't think the AFL will agree to do this and chuck it into the "too hard" basket.

I would have thought they would both agree because (1) Saturday night TV exposure on FTA is better value than Sunday afternoon TV exposure on FTA and (2) slightly more time to recuperate before round 2.

Excactly, but this is just me raising the idea.

For all we know this idea hasn't been raised by the AFL.

I've got no issue with Essendon wanting to play their game at the MCG to maximise crowds, but it shouldn't be at the expense of an already fixtured game on the same day.

If we allow this move to happen it will show how weak we are.

How Bartlett or Pert haven’t already came out saying in no way will they agree to this baffles me. They should have smashed this down from the first moment.
dont allow this to gain momentum.

MFC has come out and said its not happening, People calling for it simply to be swapped are really just being narrow minded.. lost of prep has gone into our first game at the G, corporate and activations.

Great to see us holding firm.

This is ridiculous. Essendon can go and [censored] themselves. The MCG has been our home ground since the 1850s. All the other 'tenants' can [censored] off as far as I am concerned. And that includes Richmond.

Pert  just said vehemently that we will not be budging.

Highly unlikely that our game will be moved.

MCG Max crowd around 50000. We should get 40000. So if you take out members free entry, how many extra seats would be sold? My guess is none.

There's a deal to be done here and provided the compo is seven figures we would be mad to ignore it.

No difference to selling games to Darwin etc and few if any members would be denied a seat at Docklands

There is also a very great quality that we must define ourselves and it's DIGNITY.

We no longer need to grab every spare $500k with the Bentleigh Club to thank.

In any case it can be switched without affecting our match and TV etc can be sorted.

It won't happen a great deal as the 50% cap will be under pressure now as other Clubs  seek riches out if the Covid pie.

AFL are pressuring Govt for greater flexibility and before Anzac Eve let's hope there is a change under the Covid Safe Plans available.

also, OF COURSE gilligan hasn't seen it; it would've gone to travis auld...i guess this means he didn't pass on the message / it was rejected outta hand, and the peptides went to def con 5 and their mates in the media to try and force the narrative

Sounds like the defence of choice these days.

The boss sees no evil...it wasn't passed on to me.

We’re just 1 of 10 sets of Victorian fans who desperately want to see their team play after a long absence.  Tribal hostilities aside, as a footy fan I want as many fans as possible to see their team. I expect our club to consider the greater good of the game in making their decision.

You clearly have no idea how these things are done.

There is no 'greater good of the game' in Clubland. Never has been. It's always been dog eat dog and every club for itself.

Only occasionally does it become obvious, like when a ratbag such as John Elliott is in charge of one of the clubs, but it has always been so under the surface.

That is why the AFL Commission was created, because self-interest meant the clubs were always tripping up one and another and  themselves.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
