Guessing that's Josh Mahoney reaching in. 16 years is a long time to be at one place, especially for someone relatively young. Probs good for everyone involved really.

Highly thought of inside the industry. Twill be interesting to see if there’s external visibility on this loss over the course of the year.

We leaked a fair portion of our stories through Clark, so hardly a surprise he likes the guy.

That said, we’ve managed the media well I’ve thought. Mostly kept things in house until they were ready to go, made sure we got a fair hearing on our side of the story and also got our fair share of press.

Good luck to whoever takes over in a year that will likely be chaotic again, could see a coach firing and possibly even the board under pressure

Never heard of this bloke but if he had responsibility for our website then probably best to part company

And????

Non-solicitation clause obviously not in Josh M’s contract -  amateur hour at the Dee’s.....

Was he responsible for sending out the finals marketing in 2017 the week before we made failed to make finals? That fiasco is still embarrassing!

I thought he got fired earlier in the year and ended up at the Dogs?

The communication with members has been woeful in recent years. If that was his brief, then a change was long overdue.

Unless we're also happy for Larkin to go.

(I have no idea if that's the case. I've never heard of the guy.)

Good luck to Ryan ( don’t think I’ve ever heard the name) but this comment made me laugh after clicking on the op link/tweet.

“Essendon supporters will be stoked. You can tell the Bombers really struggled last year with digital marketing, especially in the third quarter.”

Win a flag. That’ll sort our marketing out.

good idea - email the club

I actually think our marketing department  do a fairly good job considering what they have to work with.

He must be feeling like a kid let out in a candy store. The money a big club like them have for marketing/digital compared to a small club like us will be massive. Having said that ideas are the key not resources.

BTW, his dad reads and for a while posted on DL.

Ess wouldn't poach him if he wasn't very highly thought of.  PJ promoted him to the role so that says something and I think it is churlish to blame him for all the communication issues people perceive about the club.

While I think he is a loss, it is good for his career to get experience somewhere else.  I wish him every success

Absolutely agree.

Very thankful to Ryan. All the current day players and officials we have had on the podcast were organised through him.

I believe the finals communications were before he became the head of comms. In any event whilst it was bad optics, had we made finals and the mail outs were late people would be bitching about that [censored] up. Damned if you do and all that. Can't blame the comms team for not making the finals.

Communications have massively improved in Ryan's time at the club. I wish him all the best.

Wouldn't marketing/digital spend be part of the "soft cap"? I realise within the soft cap clubs will prioritise where they choose to spend their money but because of this cap I wouldn't have thought any club would be able to spend massively more on marketing and digital than any other club.

If it's not part of the soft cap, then I agree with you.

The cap is for footy departments not club spending

Pretty certain soft cap is the football department. Originally brought in to even up the competition because big clubs were spending way more than small clubs with extra development, coaches, IT and stats support etc

Tough Gig.. Must enjoy polishing [censored] lol

Good Luck Ryan thanks for sticking with us for 16 years, but as I have found over my working life that as one door closes another one opens and I think that could auger well for us in the future at MFC.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
