    Just saw the late news and the Collingwood supporters are reported to be revolting (pun intended). Not happy with Eddie refusing to stand down so they are going to cancel their memberships and support another team. 

    First stop - the dentist. They will need to blend in with the crowd. ?

    The arrogance of the man is staggering. Maybe 10 years ago you could get away with sweeping this under the carpet but thank god its 2021 where racism such as this is no longer trivialised and ignored.

    I popped on sports day to enjoy some schadenfreude, but all I heard was Gerard Healy questioning how there could be systemic racism because Eddie and Buckley n others there have such gentle giving hearts. Gross to hear one of The boys club that works with him spouting that rubbish, so conflicted and ignorant. Not many in the AFL media prepared to actually go hard because they walk the same aisles.

    Good old Gil jumping in saying racism is bad lol, the AFL should have done more to censure McGuire over the years. They’ve let Goodes and Lumumba down many times and washed there hands of the issue.

    Lumumba has used social media since last year to voice his claims and seek an apology from Collingwood. In December he said on social media he had been denied access to the report, despite it being completed.

    I have put in bold the key words.  Still now, Eddie cannot give an apology. He still does not get it. Lumumba was never made to feel he was "one of us". That is the whole point. Those two words, 'apology' and 'compensation' must be so frightening to him.

    Why is it so hard for this man to say sorry?

    Footnote: Tony Armstrong told The Age "It was disappointing that ( the press conference ) didn't open with an apology. Very disappointing.....I'm pretty frustrated."

    Eddie would be choking on the idea of paying compensation even more than trying to say s...o...r...r.......

     

    Edit:  Jack Niall's report it-was-anything-but-a-proud-day-for-collingwood  says "...although it did not address Heritier Lumumba’s case, on the grounds that the 2010 premiership player had chosen not to play ball with the review".  Convenient!  Hard to understand why they couldn't still investigate what happened internally.  End result:  No-one to apologise to, no-one to compensate.  The more that comes out the more staged the whole thing looks.

    I just wonder whether there was no apology yesterday because of legal advice Collingwood might have received. It wouldn't be the first time an organisation has avoided apologising in case such an apology gets used as an admission of guilt in a future compensation claim.

    I don't think so La D. You can say,(We are deeply sorry if anyone has been hurt or offended. We will endeavour to ensure that it never happens again.) This does not admit wrongdoing but serves as an apology of sorts.

    Yes, I was alluding to avoiding compensation claims.

    That Murphy said the report didn't mean the people were racist, well I'm not sure how he explains the 'systemic racism' it if isn't by the people.  His comment means there were no perpetrators so no-one can be held to account (or sued).  No specific cases investigated so no names of who the victims of 'systemic racism' were so no-one can take legal action against them.  

    Which all means no compensation to be made.

    That whole sh..show had all the hallmarks of deny, deny, deny. 

    As an aside has anyone seen what any of the 18 recommendations are?

    An atrocious response.  Completely tone deaf, and is an astounding real-time demonstration of the problem that they have. No apology, ownership, contrition at all.  Trying to essentially say ‘it’s an industry problem and we should get special marks for noticing it first’ is a disgraceful cop out.

    When the report says individuals have been harmed, this response is morally, ethically and socially unacceptable.

    Mrs Nekkid said “in the TV reports they didnt even interview a non Anglo player” - i had to let Mrs B down gently that Collingwood have none of these at the moment. (But maybe some of them like chinese food?).  Imagine if Nev had gone there - would have been wheeled out as the token indigenous player to carry the can.  Thank god he stayed, he deserves much better than that.

    Eddie is posturing for Eddie.  He is doing great harm to CFC.

    I'd go with a laugh, because thankfully ignorant views such at those here who are suggesting racism is a fictitious creation of the left are few and far between on this forum.

    That further supports my view that the report and Eddie's narrative is to avoid responsibility/admission of guilt/compensation.

    The term the 'boy's club' seemingly  refers to the idea  jobs goes to 'good blokes' who are connected and that those in the club ALWYAS have each other's back.

    It seems to me in Melbourne (and perhaps Australia) the 'boys club' also incorporates the powerful network of private school boys where  power is jealously guarded. 

    But it seems that more often than not the term 'boys club', whilst it is usually used as a criticism, it is almost always a pretty weak criticism. (not saying that's how you are using it JD). That's to say it is used to explain a scenario (like Healy reflexively defending Eddie) but that's are far as it goes in terms of critiquing the poisonous impact of the concept.

    But really the 'boy's club (which might as well be called the white anglo boys club) is at the heart of issues such a systemic racism and systemic gender inequality. It is rife in Australian business and even more so in our big sporting codes. With the AFL it infects the clubs, the AFL (polo anyone, or perhaps drinks at the Warrnambool carnival?) and the media that reports on it.

    And the motto of The Boys Club?

    That might be how it started but it permeates through all of society.  'Jobs for the Boys' is a variation of the theme.  As is 'nepotism'.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

      What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
