Yes it is. So let’s drill down. Brown, Weideman and Viney are the big 3 outs. All with stress/overuse injuries, in the case of Brown and Viney, pre existing. So who manages these situations? Have a look at Geelong and Richmonds current injury position. Year after year these two have a dream run. Why is that? I don’t profess to know the answer, but there has to be something more to it than luck

And to answer your question, no I do not have any inside knowledge. Just having an opinion on a forum site. Maybe we have the wrong people, from the Coach down? Maybe not. What I do know is that we have underachieved for the best part of the last 56 years, and I am totally fed up with it. It’s terrific you are a supreme optimist 58er, most on this site are the opposite. Probably for the same reasons as me.

Actually Hibbo had a darn good year in 2020 and will be missed if Jets or Joel Smith replace him. Where has your insight been on the Joel Smith injury of broken finger LH? He was listed as 3 weeks and it occurred just before the Tigers practice game. Don't think he is ready yet but if he is should have a run with Casey this Week hopefully.

Dont believe Melksham on last years form and no Match practice should play Again  if he can show He is match fit with 2/3 game ok but his form is from 2018 not recent seasons!

Would  rather like to see Bowey Get a chance based on his2 games so far.

Tigers have not had a dream run Bobby you are wrong  Both in 2019 and 2020 they had a large till mid season but all came good before the Finals. Do please get your facts straight Bobby.

Tigers won 10 games I n a row to Qualify for 2019 and then 3 Finals for the Flag.

Last year We had a great run with injuries so you can't necessarily blame Burgo for the injuries this year IMO.

Back to the drawing board Bobby!!

It was reported in the Herald Sun few days back he required surgery. Luckily my testicles are still intact, but my father split his urethra playing footy back in his day and said it was one the most painful injuries he ever sustained and kept him out for weeks.

It was a joke the first part, but the him requiring surgery was not.  

I am sure you will hear something official over the next week or so from the club. It is safe to say he will not be playing early rounds, he'll barely be able to run with the soreness.

It's just that I heard someone say after the injury report that so and so played after a week. That may  have been just Bruising etc but not the skin tearing etc that appears Jay has been through.

Yes I have no doubt your Dad was in great pain with an injury in that area of the body. A friend father-in-law law was involved ina road accident and his prostate was affected and after treatment he didn't rehabilitate and suffered great pain and ended up back in the hospital For further treatment!

I myself was circumcised at 12 years of age while in surgery for an undescended testes and my parents decided this was an opportunity too good to miss. Two days of pain followed but now a days you would be asked about that at 12 yrs of age I would have thought.
 

We have bad luck with Real pain in those tender and other areas But like it or not it all heels in the long run thank goodness.

Richmond has been ravaged by injuries the past two seasons. Large chunks without key position players, Prestia, Martin. They've done a Brisbane circa 2002-2003, never quite dominating, utilising list depth to position themselves well for finals, and then going in fit and ready to go. Richmond also won a flag with Reiwoldt as their only key forward so this belief that you absolutely need a tall forward (or two) just isn't based in reality. Lynch helped get them to the next level but they would still be up there.

We should be able to manage injuries through list depth and game day adjustment. This is less a question of the quality of our injury and fitness management. More a question of overall football department management and the coaching department. And it always has been. Melbourne appears to be the only team impacted by injuties to a degree that it completely destroys our season. That's just not right.

Your parents waited til you were 12 that is sooooo brutal!  Yeah i think these days there would be a lot of questions asked whether this is at all neccessary, and definitely with your consent you poor bugger!

Given that one was carrying a knee injury when we recruited him and the other seems to have a significant injury every year, I'd say about 5/4.

Geelong had years of a 10 deep injury list of the same blokes, they shipped them out to start looking better. They also recruit a bunch of senior players each year it seems which helps the injury stats. Richmond have gone through periods of lots of injuries too, what they do well is the rehab which is possibly more on the physios than the fitness guy anyway. They time their run.

Viney could be bad management, but it could also be that we've finally caught an issue in time, put him in for the surgery and he might only miss a week or two. He certainly was far fitter last year than he has been in years.

The Weid is the first time I've heard of a player having his issue. Big guys are susceptible to stress injuries but how do you balance getting them fit enough to play? If it's a freak issue rather than a run of stress injuries to one part of the body as we've seen in previous years with the naviculars then I'm less inclined to put that down to bad management.

I wouldn't put Brown down to Burgo either. He hasn't been at Melbourne long enough to say if Burgo's program will keep his knee in the kind of condition to not keep having issues. IMO the draft pick we gave up for Brown was reflective of the fact his body isn't 100%. I remember reading comments that Burgo was optimistic of helping Brown and time will tell, but I think it needs more time to see what he can do.

Salem and Melksham pinging hammies is more of a worry to me. Obviously you wont go all season without a few soft tissue injuries but the aim has to be to get in to the games without those problems.

I thought Hibberd's 2020 was average.  That aside, imv others offer more this year so we can cover him with the players I mentioned.  

My insight on J. Smith is he is listed as 'Test' in the table earlier in this thread.  Round 1 is about 3 weeks after the injury so 'Test' looks about right for him.

Bowey is one I suggested in my post.
