Most sides we only have beaten a couple of times since 2006, didn't Ben Brown state North are 7 wins 1 loss in the games he played against us.  Don't forget our midfield was drafted to be in the mould of Sydney, big body contested Mids.

There is nothing that has be post in this thread that this site haven't been banging on about for many many years.  The underlying issue we haven't been able to address for a long time is being able to sustain our best Football for entire games and from week to week we have no idea if side will turn up to play.  We always have massive flat patches with in games and throw in regular absolute stinker games.  Didn't need a review to know this just ready this site for the last 20 years.

Positive words by all last night, nothing we haven't heard before though and the performance in 2021 needs to back these words up, we haven't been able to do that  in the past

That is a good point in that many of the consistent finals sides of 2007 -2020 such as Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney we've barely beaten over that period.

However, during Sydney's recent decline of 2018-2020 we've had all sorts of problems against them. They beat us in the middle of our fantastic run to a prelim in 2018 and tonked us twice in 2019 and 2020 despite them being badly out of form.

The bottom line is we should've beat them, we should've won one of the two Cairns games despite a bit of adversity and the same problem exists year after year under Goodwin - we don't come switched on in critical games despite the rewards on offer eg- cementing a top 8, top 4 spot).

I hope Williams can fix this.

Also as Bartlett noted in the podcast after the season,  Casey will be out MCG sized ground moving forward. Any ground close to the G precinct will be Docklands sized ground.

How important do we think the ground size is when it is so exposed to wind the conditions aren't the same?

That is really, really poor.  I've not been a fan but he deserves public and resounding acknowledgement for his commitment to the club and praise for the professionalism in his work.  Hopefully, it was an oversight and it is remedied at the AGM.

I agree with this, but also perhaps it has something to do with the timing of his exit, a sudden out the door departure on the eve of the draft?

I assume the club knew he was looking, the industry did. But perhaps the exit wasn't as smooth as it should have been?

Q & A

  • TMac lost about 5kgs and will play initially as a forward but don't rule out positional change

We have enough tall forwards, he should be training with the backs where we have no depth.  Its May then nothing.

It was extremely uncomfortable watching his presentation. I'm not a Goodwin supporter but I actually felt sorry for him. I think it was a cold/hayfever that triggered some sort of anxiety attack but it came across very poorly. He was better off saying 'excuse me ill finish this presentation in a few minutes once I've cleared my nose'. Instead he began rambling and chopping and changing his sentences in an attempt to finish the speech and it had no coherence. Regardless of the reason, his poor communication style and inability to articulate really doesn't help the public perception of his coaching ability.

I note in the club email about the night there's a link to other's video presentations but just a link to a transcript of Goodwin's.

Covid or no Covid if the facilities are top notch then I’d prefer they stayed out there for the year and beyond until the new base is finished. Why train at sub standard facilities when Casey is there and available?

You have my vote, I think that is what is happening as I see no good reason why the captain would now live on the peninsula.

Yep, the beat us in the middle as they are better at contested footy than we are in the midfield, it is their model that we have based our midfield around.

Cairns, we all knew we would lose those games we have a pretty long history of losing games that we need to win.  If we don't have good dry conditions with little wind we struggle, this comes down to 2 things game plan in trying conditions we don't adjust we continue to over possess the ball and skills to play in tuff conditions you need top line skills, we struggle in good conditions to control the footy add in Rain/Wind/Humidity we have no chance.

Ah, the old excuses versus reasons issue rasies it ugly head again.  I am reminded of the 'irregular verbs' of Yes Minister.

But in this case irregular abstract nouns,   "I give reasons, you make excuses".

So other than a poor game plan, poor game day coaching and playing players out of position  all of his primary resposibilities we now learn that the coach has panic attacks.

Gee I really feel sorry for him as he is obviously operating well out of his comfort zone

So has tripled the distance to the G area for training probably more than in time. Gone from 30 mins to 1.75 hours.

Q & A

  • TMac lost about 5kgs and will play initially as a forward but don't rule out positional change
  • Other clubs are getting funding for home base development because they already have a site - we don't because we don't have a site. Very clear that we want to be based near the G. Pert can't wait to announce something in the future
  • Questions re: cuts to footy department and how it will impact - Richo answered that we won't be wanting for anything. Less people at the club but we've brought in some great people (Yze). Some people are going part time but players won't notice.
  • Question about ruthlessness - Goody talked about being consistent week to week, quarter to quarter.

Was stoked to hear from Richo that Jordan Lewis is in a coaching role over the pre-season. Gotta keep the quality people involved the project....

Question about fitness and preseason surgery.

Good spot

Oliver had shoulder surgery - already started training not full contact til january

Brayshaw plate removed from foot tomorrow - won't start full training until February

No other major surgeries. Only a few other minor ones but won't impact preseason

Oliver has shoulder surgery every year.

Missed it all so updates really appreciated. My favourite part was Brown mentioning Spargo as one of the players he’s looking forward to working with up forward. ✔️ for lil Spargs.

And here I thought human sacrifice would achieve it. I’ve been doing it wrong for 40 years.

Funny you should say that. I was just watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom the other day. You must have forgotten the ripping out of the heart first before being lowered into the pit of fire. Hmmm.....does sound similar to supporting Melbourne.

Same same. ?

I think this was the most recent 'new facilities' post before - cough! - some other stuff got in the way?

Has anyone got any thoughts where the development could possibly be, given the (apparent) 'proximity-to-MCG' requirement? What is undeveloped already, except Gosch's site itself?

Didn’t watch members forum as away with work, but seems as the usual all talk whilst every other Vic clubs are getting multi million dollar developments for their home training bases & we have zero! Was the cairns debacle questioned in detail as who was responsible for the crazy scheduling of landing less than 4 hrs before the game kicked off vs the swans?? Was our leadership questioned as why they continue to lose to bottom teams and do we have a culture of getting ahead of themselves??

I think we need a body language expert, a psychologist and a public speaking coach to help us analyse this presentation. And an astrologist. The sun was aligned with the South node of the moon in Sagittarius yesterday which may explain his lack of coherence.

Although born a Capricorn I think he self identifies as a Libran.

Re: Vic clubs getting $$$ and us getting nothing Pert explained they’re getting $$$ because they have existing facilities. Because we don’t have an existing facility and are just looking we don’t fall the category for $$$.

Re: Cairns debacle - AFL booked the flights. Was out of our control. No info on whether we kicked up a fuss or whether that would have helped.

I like the fact the Burgo told it as it was. A little concerned that others didn't have the cojones. Not much risk in it, surely.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
