The โ€˜dunkingโ€™ on Spargo in this thread is a tad unseemly. Itโ€™s also a self-own as Charlie will play more of a role in the team in 2021 than this kid...

Appears now omac had gone Spargo is the newb favourite whipping boy for some

Someone should do a Internet age MFC whipping boy timeline. Think Simon Godfrey was first of the alumni

Spargs will look quick in tandem with these new recruits plus Kossie. No one will or should be stationery on our forward line in 2021 otherwise they will be on the bench and not going back on fir a whole!

Not sure ย about Tommy Mac yet but we will wait and see!!

It's a known fact anybody that is picked up by Melbourne is slow, or became slower once they are pick up by Melbourne.

Can't believe the absolute negativity on this site, jake was an absolute star in the nab 2019 future stars game before GF, everyone on here is so negative about anything the MFC do.ย

ย

ย

Also people, it would only be human for Jake to come here and see the reaction to his arrivalย by the supporters. Iโ€™m confident players quickly learn to avoid this place, but factor in him or his relatives possibly reading this stuff, and consider positivity instead of projecting your MFCSS all over the kid.ย
ย

Further to this, the Spargo trashing on this site is [censored] pathetic.ย

Haha yep definitely a major issue that needs a fix, hopefull this goes a long way towards it!

If only they had a few extra cms and kgs, but footy IQ is a must

Read the Herald Sun. That automatically makes them taller. Whereas The Age has Bowey and Laurie as 175cm and 179cm respectively, the Herald Sun has them both as 180cm.

How the two papers can have different information astounds me. I would have thought the AFL would provide data on each player which the media would all use.

Having said that, it's also quite possible that any 18 year old hasn't finished growing anyway.

ย

We whinge and moan all year about not having anyone who can kick teh ball and no pace.. we go and get one and then we still find reason to do teh same.

Its a needs selection, smart selection, as is Laurie and even Rosman. They are what we need. We didnt need Carroll, or we didnt need Cook, we have those types, we dont have Boweyย or Laurie types.

Drafting for the now, as they should, the window is open for us, these guys get itย an kick it nicely, read the play well, are clever, have some pace, and can play through midfield, wing or fwd line.

ย

Its a really good haul for 3 picks.

Jake Bowieย  He was our first pick in the draft and has speed which we lack and has precision kicking which we lack.ย ย

Most have not seen theseย  ย guys play in the flesh and some on the siteย are digging a hole for them. . Let's wait and see before any of us jump the gun.ย ย

Small highlights package shows he hits targets and is quick thinking. Both are serious deficiencies in our current squad

I'd likeย to add "Let's wait and see for a few years before any of us jump the gun".

Welcome aboard Jake - your families reaction gave me goose bumps even got the dogs involved. It will be great to have a pacey player with an excellent kick and tons of courage in the Red & Blue, I can see you running around the Gee in 2021.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of nice marks in his highlights.ย  Seems hes more Pickett/Weightman than Spargo.

I like the pick.

Why is the point of reference in a few of these threads Spargo?? Sheesh!!ย

Spargoโ€™s still young, heโ€™s shown heโ€™s got what it takes. Will he be regular 22, thatโ€™s largely up to how hard he works and a dose of luck. I like the kid and wish him all the best.

I think people just wanted to get in ahead of you,ย  PF

Welcome to Melbourne Jake. I am going to go ahead right now and apologise in advance for our supporters who love to judge a book by it's cover and write off players they have not seen play for more than 1 minute. If you were 198cm but couldn't run or kick, they'd call you the next Buddy. So errr... good luck.ย

ย

Think it was @goodoil that posted a link to a game involving Max Holmes playing in 2019 when he was all the rage as a bolter linked to us by cal.

I watched about 15-20minutes of the game and I came away none the wiser about Max but super impressed with Bowey. Looked a cut above with his skills, composure and pace. Think I made a comment then that I would be happy to see him in our colours and that hasn't changed.

Welcome aboardย Jake.

Welcome aboard little red demon!

Majority of our speedy players run in straight lines.

We haven't had too many players that have beenย quick, evasive and that were renowned for hitting targets. Could be a great connector.ย Plays tall for his size too and has had senior footy experienceย as 16 yr old.

Think this young fella may just surprise a few.

Cult Hero in the making.

This is a great point, apart from jetta from a few years ago I struggle to think of too many that could really buy time with a decent side step and open the game up.ย

Perfect replacement for OMac at CHB!!!! Hungry for the ball, as well.ย

This is really worth a read:ย https://afl.draftcentral.com.au/2020/06/02/marquee-matchups-jake-bowey-vs-errol-gulden/ย

The more I am reading about Jake, the more I am realising, sheesh I know why he went round 1.ย

NAB league in 2019, he was one of the reasons the Dragons made it so deep into the comp. Named in the best across the Dragons' year, including in the finals. Named in the best in the Futures game as well in 2019.ย

And the thing I keep reading is that he is a winger, not a forward. Maybe Taylor does know a thing or two.ย

As much as I like the nickname 'Ziggy', it must be remembered that Bowey rhymes with Yowie, not with Bowie.

Older posters may remember his father Brett running around for St Kilda.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
