The Dunkley’s did a deal with Sydney that they would only accept a father son nomination if the Swans agreed to only match interstate clubs. Josh only wanted to go to Sydney if it was to avoid another interstate club, he had a strong desire to stay in Victoria. The Swans not matching had nothing to do with not rating Josh.

Thanks DS. Didn’t know that intel.

I would like us to grab Caleb Poulter a potential class act apparently  Happy to take Jack Carroll, Errol Gulden and Sam Berry though.

Poulter would also be a good addition. Classy skilled left footer with good size and tackling ability. He’s definitely in the frame.

After giving this careful consideration, I think we'll end up with:

1.  Charlie Winner

2.  Juan Hundred-Gamer

3.  Andy Depth

2. Any relation to Jaunara Ugle Hagan?

Interesting draft year for me, knowing less about the players than in any other year I can remember.
I can sit back and be happy with whoever we get.

On the piece of paper, in order of potential priority and likely availability

Macrae ?

Carroll ?

Cook ?

Laurie

Stone

* bid Gulden

* bid Coleman

Poulter

Bowey

Winder

Ford

Angwin

(* both Gulden and Coleman are excellent youngsters but imv bids are definitely going to be matched... but we may as well force swans and lions to use points)

As the picks currently stand pre-draft.

18. Carroll

19. Holmes

28. Bowey (if we keep it)

or

50. Callow

Think we'll add a tall to compliment our team if we go for two medium sized runners. Either that or another small forward but I don't think there will be much in the way of quality at the back end of the draft.

My go

1. McRae

2. Carroll

3. Bowey

I believe Green is pushing the credentials of Holmes very hard at the Dees.  I think he was his school footy coach.  Can anyone confirm this?

I’ve heard of the Green House link but never Green Holmes

Green was at St Kevin's and Holmes played school footy at Melbourne Grammar.

No link at all.

Don't think so Dazzle, almost certain Green was at MGS.

Reckon we’ll swap 18 & 19 for North (originally our) pick 11.

And take Archie

Considering Essendon are expected to take him, and the fact that they have three (?) picks before 11, I can't see that happening. I get the feeling we may stay with the two picks rather than upgrade.

Yes you are correct.

My apologies to @Demons11

And we'll say that we took Charlie Winner because he was clearly "the best available" with our first pick; that Hundred-Gamer "comes from a great family"; and we "couldn't believe our luck" that Depth was still available at our third pick. I accept that I may have those statements in the wrong order, though.

So are we taking 3 or 4 players - I thought with the players being shifted to the rookie list we could now take 4?

We’ve got room for 5 if we really wanted to, but every pick after 3 means we’re using a main list spot rather than a rookie spot. In effect we’d be spending 80k salary cap we don’t want to spend.

The draft could fall a particular way that makes 4 picks too good to pass up. But 3 seems far more likely.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
