Interesting.

Seems like many of our fringe players (Tomlinson, Bedford, Hunt, Weed, etc.) are looking around.

Maybe signals a more ruthless approach to list management?

Not necessarily.  A ruthless approach to list management would be to trade out a couple from our starting 22.

Don't blame them if there is little chance of getting into the starting 22.  If they can get more chances and better deals elsewhere good on them.

The trick is to use their desires to our advantage with draft picks and or players.

The fact we changed our forward set up to not play him late in the year you don't blame him.

He is now 4th choice kpf at melb.

I'm not sure where the list management is going if they trade Weid. I've never been a fan of him, but he definitely showed enough improvement as a ruckman at Casey to be required as ruck depth.

Without Jackson and Weid, we'd need to bring in 3 ruckmen onto our list. Grundy is obviously one, plus a mature ager at Casey, and the other a rookie.

I perish the thought that we'd use JVR as a 2nd ruck should Max or Grundy get injured. T Mac and BBB are physically unable to play the 2nd ruck role.

I think it's healthy that we are testing the market with players. I'm sure we'd be criticised if we were sitting on our hands.

Sounds like the marriage contract.

Is there a club out there looking for a forward/second ruck?

MFC! 🙄

We won’t be able to move him.

All good. He is fine back up for Grundy/Gawn.

Lloyd all over it like usual

1958, Murray Weidemann smacks Ron in the mouth. 2022, demonlanders form pack around grandson, Sam.

Lloyd said Weid will look for a new home.

MFC said it doesn't plan on trading him.

Those things don't cancel each other out.

Bad look to trade a contracted player

From the same article...

If Weideman was to request a trade next month, it is unlikely Melbourne would receive much in return in the form of a late draft pick based on his form this season.

What a waste of paper. My dog could have made up a more sensible paragraph than this rubbish.

The Weed will be ok, a contracted late developer with plenty of upside.

I would hate being married to football club.

Just taking this marriage one week at a time!

From what I have been told Sam loves the club  and wants to stay at the club. I will be surprised if he asks for a trade.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
