Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's Jack Watts all over again. We draft a tall kid with supposed skills who we expect will "fill out" and grow into the physical aspects of the position that we recruited them to play. Weid has no mongrel. Zero. It shows every time he runs 2m under the ball when someone is on his hammer. I'd call it something far less flattering, but that would certainly get me a ban. And if memory serves it was his "courage in the air" that had our team choose him over others.....

It's an ongoing weakness in our recruiting team. We seem to be ok at identifying defenders and very good at mid size players, but give us a crack at picking a tall forward and they seem to fall apart. Lets hope V.R is a notable exception.

To be fair to JT and the crew Weid used to really fly at the ball. And we’ll forever have the Geelong final which included big marks and huge tackles. Weid is now a mess but it’s lack of confidence and lack of athleticism that impact as much as mongrel. Fritsch has no mongrel, but he reads the play and has the speed to get the ball.

Harry McKay was in that draft and he was fairly soft as a junior. All skill and athletic potential. Curnow was the easy pick IMO, but he had off field misdemeanours and I think they thought he was a bit similar to Hogan.

When it came to Luke Jackson the recruiters saw a tall with incredible athleticism and the right physicality and had to grab him.

I don’t think we’ve drafted enough talls in general. They’re lottery tickets and it’s best to just keep buying them.

Not sure how anyone can say he's finished. He's not in great form and is potentially destined to always be more of a backup 22 player, but he's needed on our list IMO. Our other KPF stocks are aging and injured (Brown and McDonald), young (Roo) or on the way out (Jackson).

Unless we somehow flush ourselves with walk up 22 quality tall stocks Weid is not finished imo

That's all well and good and mostly correct,  but if Weid is anything more than forward depth or an occasional cover for an injured ruck he may not be finished but our flag hopes certainly are

Flag hopes finished? Did you watch the game on Friday? Destroyed a legitimate contender on their home deck. Weid didn't get the ball, but he didn't get outmarked - halved alot of contests and played his role in the conditions. Sometimes that's enough.

Levi Casboult is a limited AFL key forward, but he at least has one trick - pack marking.

Weideman is an unathletic key forward with not a single standout AFL attribute.

Handy VFL player, but he's done at AFL level.

Or... we trade for talls already in the system that meet our specific needs. May, Lever, BBB.

I'm more in the camp that the the draft is a bit of a lottery. We paid 2 x 1st rounders for Lever, pick 6 for May.

If Dogga leaves, I'd hope we use the pick/s to go hard on an established key forward. That is, unless we have a FA in mind for next year.

I wish we picked him up this year. Would be starting full forward every week, and suit our game plan very well.

He's be extremely handy, but I'm not sure the site could cope with him kicking 1 goal 8 every week.

Given your stated musical preferences, I'm not sure if they would be your cup of tea, PF.  This early song of theirs would be a good starting point.  If you like it, I'd recommend "Frontier Psychiatrist" as the next stepping stone.

Their style could be described as electronic and they make extensive use of samples.  In this song, they used something like 3,500 vinyl samples!

Guinness world record for number of samples right there.

You picked a great song as an intro, DS. And the vid is outstanding.

But yeah, I can’t imagine PF will like this band. They aren’t exactly on heavy rotation on Gold104. 😁

I’m certainly in favour of trading for quality talls, I meant more with late picks particularly for rucks and tall defenders. Disco’s a nice player to have on the list, we could do with a similar prospect as a ruck and even a utility.

If your choice is between Weid and McStay; you need to leave the store.

We’re not shopping for Valentine’s gifts here.

Pickings are slim ATM.
We don't need a McStay as we've got the Weid already.
McStay has found himself in a good position.
Very likely to get paid big overs for his output.

I beg to differ about the mongrel.
His forearm fend off a couple years back to his karate kid crane knee in the marking contest a few weeks ago against the lions.
That bloke thought he had his chest cavity caved in.
Might not look like he's got mongrel .... But it's there 😎

One thing is that he might get a hard wrap on here but the collective will of all MFC supporters just want him to succeed.

To heat the crowd yell "Weid!" in unison when he takes a mark or kicks a goal is fabulous, and I hope gives him a feeling of support and encouragement.

I agree with the premise, makes the take of @DeeSpencerthat McStay is equal to Angus Brayshaw even more laughable.

McStay lucky to stay in this Lions team.

Browns missed 5 games. Not elite but doing an adequate job given interruptions and lack of support.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
