Another season’s done and dusted and we at Demonland would like to thank all of you our contributors for your participation in this difficult year for the Melbourne Football Club.

In particularly, I would like to thank Nasher for keeping the site together and to our feature writers George on the Outer, Whispering Jack, The Oracle and all of our other contributors for keeping Demonland going throughout season 2020.

Also a big thank you to Whispering Jack, grapeviney and George on their tireless and often thankless efforts as Moderators.

And now, we look forward to the future. Bring on 2021!

Thanks to all at Demonland, adds to my enjoyment of following the Demons!
Not necessarily good for my sanity!

But a side benefit is Following the Demons does build resilience!

Thank you to you Demonland and alll the team and all the posters (insightful & insightless).

Here's to a better 2021 (on and off the field).

I return the thanks tenfold.  As an 'interstater', Demonland is my football 'lifeblood'.

Thank you Demonland for running such a great site. Also thank you to all the contributors for their great contribution to this great site.

Let's hope that 2021 is a great year for the Demons

Thanks also to hosts Andy and George and regular ‘caller’ binman for bringing us the demonland postcast each week. Keep us overseas folk feeling connected, especially this year when I couldn’t even fly across the Tasman.

Thanks to all of you that hold this together.. and try to stop us tearing each other apart lol. With covid it’s been an especially important source of distraction.  gratitude.

Thank you without this site I am confident I would have tossed in the MFC towel some time ago.

Sorry to be negative but can we slow up the period between now and season 2021?

I am not yet able to contemplate another year as an irrelevant team.

Imagine what it would have been like if we had made eighth place?

I was tempted to say could it have been worse? however I quickly realised the answer was Yes and the memory is fairly fresh.

Felt like we ALL were this year, Doffa!

Pile my thanks on to all the others, Demonland Elves?

Thank you to all at demonland for helping us during this these trying times. you do amazing work and we are very greatful for all that you done in 2020?

Massive thanks to DL and the folks who run this site. This year more than ever it was a great and much needed distraction.

Thanks Demonland. No year like it and DL rose to the occasion. Thanks to all the contributors and posters And to Andy, George and Binman for giving us great match analysis on the podcast. All the best to everyone and stay safe.

Thanks guys, brilliant.

Glad I don't have to rely on Facebook for my thoughtful MFC reading and discussion.

I'm confident we'll bounce back stronger next year and 2021 will be a bit of a ride too.

2020 isn’t over yet

Thanks to all involved

My thanks are extended to the Administrators and the Moderators (even though an occasional pithy witticism of mine gets scrubbed).

I like that it's about 90% football with the other 10% varying from pop culture to nostalgia and from history through to literature, linguistics and logic.

I've really missed the track reports and hope we can get the opportunity to have them back next year.

And, finally, many thanks to the posters who keep me informed, educated and entertained.

Thanks Demonland and co  you guys do an awesome job behind the scenes.

Demonland. A true refuge from the perils of MFCSS.

You’re all welcome.

I know how much I mean to you all and I never forget how important I am.

Thank you Demonland from me but not my employer.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
