La Dee-vina Comedia 17,137 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Has just been reported that Rhyce Shaw is taking an extended break and may not return as senior coach at North. I wish him well and hope he has a speedy recovery. It's of secondary importance to his health, but I wonder whether North will change direction under whoever takes over as either interim or permanent Senior Coach. For example, will Ben Brown be a "required player" once again? 1 Quote
Elegt 872 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Doubt so. Seems like brown is already out the door Quote
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 The way it’s written on the AFL website implies that the media and wider industry have known this for a long time. Also states if he does come back it won’t be as senior coach and implies Voss may be taking over. North’s season just went from bad to terminal. I really feel for all involved. Hard for the club, difficult for supporters, and next to impossible to evaluate for players. 4 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,675 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Has been a pretty open secret since about Monday last week. The media acted very responsibly (apart from one peanut on Perth radio) to let North release this on their own terms. The North board and administration need to review their actions in providing support in such tough circumstances. Not to say they did anything wrong but it seems so disappointing that a guy has ended up in this situation where there’s such doubt on if he’ll even coach again. Quote

Roos will take over with blakey as assistant 2 Quote

A young coach, standing down assistants, delisting or trading a stack of players, awful losses with completely despondent press conferences, hearing very little at any stage from the President/CEO/Head of football. It’s easy in hindsight but it looks to me like there were plenty of opportunities to do things differently. 1 Quote
The Lobster Effect 899 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Sad situation. There was a thread on this on Bigfooty a couple of weeks back. Normally Bigfooty rumours are pretty trashy but looks like someone had a connection with North on this. The media would have been all over it as its hard to keep things like this secret, Caro even mentioned it the other night on Footy Classified with a bit of a freudian slip. Quote
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Horrible situation! all the best to the Shaw family! incredibly brave thing to do, admit you need help and to step out of a role he's been working for, over a period of time. it'd be incredibly tough to do, i have a lot of admiration for Rhyce as a person. Hopefully when he's had his time and space and is ready he can step back into the footy world and continue his journey. he's a great footy person. 2 Quote
Queanbeyan Demon 7,023 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 (edited) Pending Tammy's approval . . . all set up for Roosy. 1. Can ride in with no blood on his hands to save the joint from itself (White Knight syndrome). 2. AFL now know they officially have a basket case on their hands and will bank roll a $1.5-2m a year contract. 3. He can’t loose (a finish higher than 18th in 2021 will be seen as a huge win for the club) as the whole industry knows that the joint is f#$&^d and only an elder statesmen of Roos’ standing can reset the club’s compass. 4. He and Blakey have a strong long term relationship . . . Roos will see him as the perfect foil. 5. Roos might be a Buddhist, but we all like a topped up superannuation account. 7. The deal may well involve Voss . . . a good footy mind who’ll probably do most of the coaching grunt work during the week. 8. The deal many also involve keeping Brown. 9. Fits Roos’ coach as contracted consultant mentality (all care an no responsibility). 10. Potentially sees reputational upside for himself . . . imagine if he gets them into a final series? dazzledavey36 56,334 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Thinking of Rhyce and his family during this difficult time. Hope he gets the required help that is needed for himself. 5 1 Quote
old dee 24,083 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 I feel the MFC should give North a hand. Among other things they now have no coach. We should loan them our coach for the next two seasons. Seems only fair to me. 6 Quote
Biffen 12,949 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 We can all agree that Damien Barrett is a classy individual and has contributed to this story in many ways.Hope he finds the truth he is looking for.He deserves all he gets form his work. Quote
Pates 9,697 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Good luck to Rhyce, I'm surprised this hasn't happened before to be honest. There's so much pressure on the coach and you only need to look at some of the stuff that's said about Goodwin to understand how much it could get to a bloke. 1 Quote
waynewussell 6,976 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 The hypocrisy of posters who sledge our own coach in a thread about the psychological stress on another coach is mind boggling! 14 1 Quote
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Wish Shaw the best and hope he gets all the help he needs. I believe North wanted Blakey to coach with Roos to assist. But Blakey is reluctant as he prefers the assistant role. Archer called an emergency meeting of the NMFC board earlier in the year to work on a path forward Ben Amarfio trying to run the whole show despite being there for 5 mins, pissing everyone off And apparently they are still paying out Brad Scott from last year North are in a huge hole. Surely the AFL will need to step in 1 Quote
