TMac on the Trade Table?

A fit and more mobile T Mac this season is still a very handy addition to our team, at worst as depth.

Mobile blokes, with good tanks, good height and experience don't grow on trees. We were looking at Shaun McKernan (supposedly) and I'd definitely prefer TMac to that spud.

Is that the spud that kicked 4 goals against us last year, despite tearing his hammy earlier in the game, on the way to another humiliating 2019 loss for us?

That's him. The Melbourne Football Club, playing terrible opposition players into career best form since......forever.

I haven't. That guy still gives me nightmares!

It's no surprise that Melbourne was the team he kicked most of his goals against.

For all the crap Kingsley copped, he still managed a couple of bags of 57.

Unlike Brent Grgic who played 11/13 woeful games for Geelong. The 2 not so woeful games happened to be against us.

Are you a parrot, I have been hearing for years how this spud Kent Kingsley kicked his 1 and only bag of goals against Melbourne, Kent Kingsley was Geelong leading goal kicker 4 times, he averaged almost 2 goals a game, he was a genuine forward and no spud, check facts and stop being a parrot., Also he kicked 6 goals in 1 game against port Adelaide.

Where did this myth come from that Kent Kingsley is a spud?  Leading goal kicker 4 times for Geelong, he is a fairly good forward who kicked many bags, most people who say don't forget Kent Kingsley are parrots, who would not even  know that he kicked over 200 career goals.

If he gains that mobility, I'd love to see him tried on a wing.

Not interested in seeing him up forward unless covering an injured player.

The wing seems to be the next application for TMac as our forward structure is very tight and talented. It would exploit his endurance and aerobic capacity; if he is training well now, let's hope that he has an opening as a utility wingman and chop-out specialist.

God forbid he is the one kicking inside 50...

He would cope with the chop out in the ruck role, but to me he is no wingman, certainly not in the traditional sense.

If he is to play a very high half forward role, as a marking player, who has good endurance, that is different.

He is certainly no fast outside mid.

All that said, I have a feeling that if he can stay injury free, he can get back to his best form. He is certainly looking in better shape than last year already. The fact that there was not much interest in him and that he now has a family, will be a big spur to him.

You are probably correct about this; it is difficult to see him with adequate pace on the wing - he'd have to make space in multiple attempts to receive and deliver, as well.

If he has re-discovered some mobility it could work well, he's had the aerobic fitness in the past.

When we're in attack, if Max is down the line on the Langdon wing, TMac's size and marking ability on the other wing prevents an outlet there and deters the switch.

When we're coming out of defence, similarly - Max down the line on the Langdon wing or TMac down the other line provide separate avenues to marking targets or aerial contest killers.

This was the hope I had for Tomlinson last year but it didn't work out.

Tmac on a wing? That would be a surprise and I think we’d be struggling to make the 8 if that were to happen for more than a few games.

His best as a fwd he and Hogan interchanged in the fwd line to roam far and wide while being able to get back hard into the 50 due to high fitness levels. Why can’t he play that role again as a roaming CHF?

I find it interesting that many are comfortable stating that Ben Browns form last year was an aberration, but cannot do the same for Tmac.

Why is it? T Mac had only one great year up forward, Brown has been consistently elite, bar 2020. Maybe Brown never gets back to his bet, but it is a far safer bet on him doing so than it is for T Mac.

I dearly love this man, and wanted him as captain for a period, but seriously the wing would be a disaster, his kicking is not up to it. As a forward there was no complication for him, thump it between the big sticks. Personally (again from the man crush) I choose to believe ankle/foot mobility issues were behind his putrid form last year. I also think his bulking up to look like thor didn't work out particularly well, pretty much the same as when James Hard came back from injury looking like a NFL wide receiver. Now that these follies and injuries are attended to, I am hoping for an Indian summer for one of the most dignified guys to pull on our jumper. Just not on the wing.

The trash that Tmac has served up in the last 2 years has been an embarrassment but if he can turn it around then he is definitely superior to Jackson. Jackson is a ruckman who has kicked 3 goals in 6 games. If Tmac did that last season people would be calling for his head. Tmac has shown to be one of the best forwards in the game so even though I like Jackson (as a ruck) he hasn't come close to Tmac in any way, shape or form.

I know fans love young players, and especially demonlanders who have a long history of overrating our youngsters and jumping the gun so lets not get too far ahead of a 6 game, 3 goal ruck turned forward.

People forget the fact he was asked to play forward because of injuries to Hogan and others in 2017 and still managed to kick 23 goals but 2019 started and he was recovering from injures as well as carrying extra weight, no one predicted 2020 was going to be disaster for Tom.

The MFC changed fitness coaches from Mission to Burgess who had no knowledge that Tom was carrying extra weight that Mission wanted him to carry.

Wouldn’t want you managing our TPP if you’d rather be paying T Mac $750 k to be playing at Casey as a back up tall forward as opposed to some Ruck insurance by paying McKernan $250 k at Casey in case Max goes down.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
