Sounds like Tom will be the new Cameron Pedersen, will play where/if required.

The big Pedo bear put in some pretty decient cameo appearances when we needed them, so if that's how it turns out, I could well live with that.

Like Pedo, I get the impression that Tommy is a pretty solid citizen, so I think we could do far worse than to have an influence like that around the club.

I also think he's a pretty fierce competitor and that is the exactly the kind of attitude we need to have at the MFC to be putting pressure on Side Show, Wied and Jacko and others.  I am really hoping that we have all underestimated T Mac, but time will tell  ...who knows, he may even be part of a last minute trade for all we know.

I don't think it's quite like that.

Yes the club was prepared to trade him on the basis that it could be mutually beneficial arrangement, rather than potenitally T Mac get shirty and frustrated at the prospect of competing for spots and playing twos week in/week out, but that's a bit different from 'wanting to get rid of him'.

MFC footy department these days has more class than Collingwood.

Think this has been really well handled by the club (in comparison to others with the same problem).

Tmac now knows he won’t get a similar contract elsewhere. I reckon he will bust a gut to stay relevant and compete for a spot on the team. Think his time trials will be very interesting this year.

if he does play meaningful minutes well (perhaps as a backup), I wouldn’t be surprised if he and club renegotiate at the end of next year - perhaps replacing the final year of this contract with a new longer deal (2 years) at much lower coin per year - or he finds a new home where we wont have to pay so much of his current contract.

It will come down to whether his body is shot. I have no doubt he will give his all to get try and get back to somewhere near 2018 - and at a minimum will be a good citizen and influence on our culture.

Little thing called the 'twos' Riley.

We are writing Tom completely off and and I hope he makes us all eat any words said.

What I do know if Tom can get fit his input to our results is huge. A fit 2018 style Tom forward back or as a back up follower would put us in a major position to do some real damage.

One thing we should all know about the McDonalds they are fine clubmen from a wonderful family who will leave no stone unturned to make the Dees successful.

Just imagine if Tom starred on GF day fit and dangerous with the other forwards playing to a plan using a three skills!!!

Bring it on Dees and Tommy.

Time to see Tommy get himself incredibly fit and have a crack at knocking Tommlinson out of the CHB position.

It sounds like Tom is already working hard to get fit again.

And, there is a good chance the sal cap will go up again in 2022 so his package won't be such an issue for clubs.

Tom will be a lot more tradeable next year.

There isn't a single bit of me that doesn't hope T.Mac proves myself and any other person who doubts his current / future abilities wrong.

It's now been two years, anytime now Tom.

Gee if the net result of his 4 year contract is $3 million out the window and jeopardising our ability to sign consistent performers like Oliver with the required contract value, all for a return of 4 years of VFL standard football, then this is one of the better duddings from a well paid player in their peak years that we've copped in recent times (and there have been plenty).

I wanted them to move him on at least to show that this club is over copping that level of output from the guys who should be driving us towards the top. Even if you accept the excuses for a drop from his full capabity, he took the field many times and was unable to compete in any fashion (including tackling or even just getting the ball to ground in  contests). Lets hope he can turn it around. Reckon he owes this club a bit over the next 2 years.

Great to see posters backing him in. We should always have faith in our players. I would be delighted if he turns his form around.

I don’t hold much truck with comments about loyal TMac, signing what was put in front of him, rah, rah. He tested the market in 2018 before he signed remember. He’s doing very well out of the MFC. He better get back in top nick and have a red hot go or there’ll be very little patience or sympathy from me and I won’t be holding back in my comments either. He’s paid as a top 5 player. He better start earning that coin.

Yep. Tom will be our back up tall swingman.  Every team needs one  although usually they come a bit cheaper. No doubt with injuries he will play a few games in 2021.

Can anyone ever emulate the great ultra team man Pedo

He’s a Demon for 2021, let’s get behind him now. I think swinging back to defence is the best path for both club and player; we have Brown as our clear FF, Weid and Jacko as our developing forwards, and M Brown as experienced coverage. There’s no place for him there (I know I started a thread asking the question).

Train him with the defenders from the start of pre-season as the second tall defender, Lever moves to being solely an interception marker. Tom can continue on his path of getting leaner as May will take the main tall forward. His (hopefully improved) marking ability can be used for a bit of variety with kick outs.

Am I totally convinced it’ll work? No. But I think it’s the best opportunity to play him regularly and get return from his contract.

I’ve seen a few posts of him, Weideman & Lever doing some private sessions together. Tmac looks to have dropped some weight & looks pretty fit. It will be interesting where he fits into the side.. He may be in line for a recall down but his ball use by foot doesn’t lend him to playing there... Guess he will have to fight Weideman for a spot in the forward line

Where does this leave our future star Harry Petty?  CHF or CHB ?

It will be interesting to see what happens in training in Early 2021.

Hope Goody and coaches have an open mind and don't  label one or the other categorically like he has Joel Smith.

I would be quite happy to have both as swingman as Tommy Must be a reserve ruck also it looks like.

Agreed, given what he (TMac) has extracted from the Club in comparison to what he enabled.

Really miss the presence of Pedersen on our team sheet. 'Superman' is a good analogy for him. Truth, justice and a very big effort time and again, more powerful than a locomotive,  but not faster than a speeding bullet. :-}

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
