That's why you don't trade players who bleed and red and blue. We almost took it for granted he would he sign on.

I'm ok with Jack staying, not so much the five years. 

But does he have tickets on himself:

I think you're looking for problems. When he speaks of players being unselfish and working as a unit I read it as he includes himself in that. There is no hint of him taking pot shots at others by my reading. I did like the fact that he sounds impatient for success, and there's no doubt the midfield is taking some management and players, like Oliver did somewhat this year, need to refine how they play.

The main take away for me is that stuff we heard this year from some posters about how Goodwin had lost the players is BS so far as this leader is concerned. Viney's comments about being a leader are also significant for me because the way he spoke at the BnF to those who did not get a game, including them and recognising them was a genuine mark of leadership. 

I did not want to lose him and I am happier now that he stayed given how committed he sounds.

I think this is absolute rubbish @Lucifer's Hero.

He's been a captain of the club. He's still VC and a leader. Goodwin, Gawn and the club make that point about him all the time. He's 26, much of our list is younger than that. There's nothing at all wrong with what he's said here and I think it's horribly unfair to suggest he has tickets on himself.

The last sentence is what the journalist wrote, all Viney said was "something really special". Maybe that's a plea to his teammates to stay, not a crack at them. 

His actual quote:

“We have all got to sacrifice a little bit to work well together because there are only so many positions in the midfield,” 

“If we can rotate through and work well as a unit, there is so much talent.

“It can be something really special and massive advantage for us.”

Doesn't sound like he's having a crack. Sounds accurate, for one, and a sign that he understands that the midfielders (him included) need to "sacrifice" and "work well as a unit".

I’m really glad he’s signed on, 5 years you might argue is too much but this basically makes him a Demon for life. There was a lot of criticism for Jack at times this year but as it said in the article, he and his wife had a newborn when they packed up and went into the hub. He had every right to say to the club he was staying behind with his wife and kid while they got through the first part of their daughters life, but they brought their newborn into hub life which must have been extremely taxing at times for all of them. 

It’s a little gutting to heat that he really considered going to Geelong but I’m glad he’s stayed. His motivation of his relationship with Goody shouldn’t be underestimated either, Simon has good connections with the playing group. Now, as Jack said, they need to take that next big step on the field.

I am glad Jack stayed and the article gives some insight at least from Viney's view of inside the club.

He is a strong supporter of Goody (I am sure many wont like that) and stayed on to support him.

In his mind they keep all of the midfielders and learn to play smarter and less selfish

He consulted with his parents and really is red and blue through and through

Is aware along with other senior players being seen as can emerging team is no longer good enough and has raised the bar in expectation 

Gives some insight to just how different and difficult the hub year was with a new bu

Realises you don't need to have a title to be a leader.

I applaud him and look forward to the second half of his career

I get that this notion is a personal and lived experience for folk... AND as AFL clubland is full of this sort of schtick, he should have known and acted this way since he was 18... ie: it's not a new realisation.

Ugh, that's unfair on Jack - Jack probably already knows this.. its about the demonstrations of it - he is amazing physically on the field... not sure in other areas however...perhaps that what he is delineating?

Love Viney and I wish more of the team had his desire to be successful. Goodwin is smart enough to see his value.

Seeing him play for the Cats would have made me sick!

This could be just a "growing up...maturing, see the light moment" for Jack LH.

And why not.  Let's just pontificate for a moment.  Clarry (if he stays) and Tracc come into 2020.  The pennies drop and the stars align.  They both decide to knuckle down and they do.  Starting to have some break out, match winning or turning moments/games.  More so in the case of Tracc.  A little in the case of Clarry changing "the method/style" in which he plays.  More run away from stoppages, more kicking to advantage (meters gained etc) vs dinky handballs to players a meter or so away in congestion, inviting even more heat on those players.  Picking up a stat but effectively a blight on the way you need to play and clear congestion effectively.

So...what's the next step in their progression?   To play selfless, team first footy?  Bring and look to bring others in to the game or play to their advantage where possible thereby benefiting the team as a whole.

Team focussed, selfless footy.  Stop any show pony rubbish and play to win.  Now i'm sure we've seen a fair bit of that at times this season, from both.  But at other times maybe not. Less so from Clarry but still a bit of hollywood from Tracc on odd occasions.

Watch Danger.....he just goes and always assesses/looks for the best team option.  Maybe this is the level we need to see and that will turn these two from very good players to great players/leaders?

My only issue with all that is that Jack needs to also follow his own lead....IF this is what he's saying.  The charge through a pack at most opportunities without looking to give off to a first option on instinct, is too often his worst (own) enemy for my liking.  He seriously needs to work on and fix this aspect of his game style.

If i'm Goodwin i would be looking to play him as a medium/small forward about 70% of the time next season.  Minor time through the middle.  Give him the responsibility of maintaining the ball in our forward 50 and kicking as many opportunistic goals as he can.  At the moment, playing so much time in the middle, is a liability to the progression of our mid field.  If Goodwin can't see this he needs a lobotomy.

Love how everything that actually comes out in the media messes with the anti-Goodwin narrative. Yeah, sure, people are graceful in a small industry. Read the article. Jack's words are above and beyond in terms of simple courtesy.

I see no problems with what he has said at all. In fact I applaud his honesty and his commitment to the team. The fact that he doesn’t want to leave and hold his coach out to dry says a lot about his character.

Be difficult to knock back a good offer from a club like Geelong. He is either weirdly attached to his family legacy, or a masochist.

Happy Jack has recommitted but the desire id like to see for Jack is to add more strings to the bow.

You know not getting caught in a tackle after going in headfirst, kicking and hand balling from both sides. Lastly less bleeding red and more bleeding blue, you know blue is the best chance of a flag.

I view this as standard setting. This guy gives 100% effort, 100% of the time. He deserves to be able to ask that of his teammates.

He clearly loves Goodwin as I think all the players do. Had Goodwin been removed this season, it's not unreasonable to think Jack would be playing in the navy and white hoops in 2021.

He's definitely not hanging Goodwin out to dry - he clearly articulates that the coach is doing his job and it's time for the players to get the job done.
