Brayshaw and Harmes should feel like there spot is threatend. We need outside mids and neither Harmes or Brayshaw have strengths that are better than Oliver, Viney or Tracs strengths.

Harmes - HFF
Brayshaw - Trade

As a 60-year supporter of the club, regardless of 'ultimate' (IS it, though?) success, I can't help but have special regard for players applying similar, unshakeable loyalty - with the bonus of a healthy income! - in the relatively small number of years that is their playing life. So I'm in the "Great news!" camp.

36 goals in 135 games; that's something to work on though...

...with his right foot, perhaps, as you say 58er!

It's weird... Would have been so disappointed if he left, but I feel like we need to make bit changes to our midfield for balance and for me he is the most one dimensional mid we have

Agree..five years is 2 years too long given his form. Viney is likely to be a 5-10 ranked player at best.

Hope he proves me wrong but I just can't see much upside and his present best is okay without being much more.

All the big guns are locked in .   Despite not making the finals it looks as if they want to be at Melbourne.  Lets hope there is some unfinished business to attend to.

  • Demonland changed the title to Viney Signs Until 2025

On record to say that 5 years is one too many. But clearly we were very keen to keep him so had to do what we had to do to make it happen.

In a time of reduced lists five years should be reserved for the absolute elite. It's the equivalent of an 2018 seven year deal.

I hope the money in the fourth and fifth years is highly conditional.

Yep coz he is a Rugby player nothing more or less, Crazy decision for a limited player!

Well, he's rated very highly by the club and by his teammates. I think I'd take their opinion over your's.

Simply have to sign JV up for a further 4 years through to end 2024.

He has the heart of a lion. You just can’t replace players like Viney.

2016 B&F winner.
2017 runner up in B&F.
Had foot issues which impacted his 2018.
3rd B&F in 2019
3rd B&F in 2020  Leadership award in 2020.

Heart and soul of the club.

Great news. Jack is a Demon for life. For all the reasons that I outlined.
It’s a

YES YES YES

MOMENT

Max excellent player. Mate heart and soul IS NOT going to deliver a flag, Classy players will

Viney signing reeks of yet another "Panic" by our Footy admin that saw us do the same thing to sign Goody for an eternity!

No wonder we are so bloody average

Viney 5 years FMD

Dangerfield- still waiting for a flag. LOL.

1 possibly 2 year deal with triggers. Bookmark this for same time next year and see if I'm mistaken!

So you are saying this time next year we will all be wanting Jack to leave PF?

Only your opinion but I admit we have to sort out his style of play and our mids link with and take proper advantage of Maxy's ruck work.

Need new midfield coach to bring fresh approach.

Going by some of the logic being thrown around here of late, the signing of Viney clearly points to Brayshaw being traded.

Or he'd go okay in the ring too. Famechon, Rose, Viney. Not sure of the weight (bantam/welter etc) but I'd back him to last the distance. And that's what we've gone for.

The pleasing thing so far is that there is little evidence that players want to leave the club.

The reverse. A good sign and shows a well managed process in place devoid of rumours and media talk.

It's not logic it's just lazy approach

No mid needs to go to from Melb We just need better coaches with our players to utilise our talents .

Don’t be ridiculous, l agree 5 years is to much, but you don’t offer a 1 year deal to a player that just finished 3rd in the b&f

Not sure of Viney's weight but if he was around 79 kgs he would be light heavyweight class

Clearly he does what the Coaches want and we don't see it DJ

We need a 25% lift from Jack Gus and Harmesy and Swallow given some extra opportunities to blend in fir our midfield to reach its capacity and flag potential ability.

Great news. The most preferred outcome was to have him sign. In saying that it feels one year too long and if five was the difference between staying and going I would have rolled the dice and stood firm on 4. I cant see with the way he plays and his prior foot issues him being valuable in year 5.

"Melbourne confirms Jack Viney will be a Demon until at least the end of 2025. Geelong have known for a couple of weeks he would stay. Goodwin relationship a huge factor."

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
