Yes I hope Goodwin finally listens to some one on the panel

If he doesn't he should be gone bigtime Makes you wonder what role Goodwin will play next year

Knew it would take no time for some to use the Yze appointment to start undermining Goodwin - predictable, tedious, half-cocked. 'Yawn', all right.

I hope he is our goal kicking coach and not Stafford he was a great kick for goal.

I know one of the assistant coaches  OK? Yawn Yawn I was responding to the post that identified match day coaching as a current weakness at the club see above.

My opinion is that it is a weakness and if YZE has the skills then that is a positive. Yawn!

That was my post you are referring to, and now you are repeating what I said the first time.

In your previous post however, you said nothing about skills and just took a pot shot at Goodwin "not listening" to anyone. With no evidence.

Greg Stafford: 141 goals 66 behinds - Accuracy 68%

Adem Yze: 234 goals 194 behinds - Accuracy 55%

OK he took harder shots on goal than Stafford.

Great get. I wonder what his official role(s) will be. Hopefully he is involved with our goal kicking. Might be our next head coach after Goody, if we don’t improve next year.

I was ambivalent about yze coming.

Now that he is i think it is fantastic.

I can feel my dormant pollyana syndrome rising.

Looking forward to the articles crediting yze with our top 4 finish.

GOT HIM........WHAT A CATCH!           THE GREAT MAN CAME HOME. THANK GOD.

Luv ya     Ooooze !

What's this story about Goodwin ever taking any input from assistants.  I know directly from Brendan McCartney that they had a close and fruitful relationship.  When Macca left everything he said was positive about Goodwin.

McCartney had an excellent reputation as an asst. coach so on face value he may hold this view stated to you.

Having said that, then if true and no resaon to believe otherwise, that means the disfunctional forward/midfield connection and lack of development of A graders (like Oliver) and lack of connection of Gawns dominance, the issues fall at the feet of the entire coaching team, led by Goodwin presumable.

Thus roll on Pert's "deep dive"...?

Adem   Yze has learnt from the best.  Clarkson   would have fed him the best of knowledge.    How to win the Premiership.

I am hoping the path is the right one.

You did call this last year @Lord Nev
I think Yze was keen on coming to melbourne last year. But hawthorn held him to his deal, which speaks to the regard in which they hold him

I am really encouraged that our Board and Management are doing everything in their power to give our playing group and coaching group all they can to achieve ultimate success. Its time that they now return the favour by addressing the areas that they need to improve in to be a consistent top team. I personally feel that the youth and inexperience of our forward line is the remaining weakness in our playing list, but Weideman, Fritsche, Kozi and Dogga is a lot of talent to build around, and the rest is pretty much mental (ie Swans. Freo etc).

I know a lot of posters think goody can't coach, doesn't listen, can't deligate, has no match day awareness etc etc, (all the similar traits that apparently Hardwick, had etc), but I like that our Board seem to be following the Richmond model to make sure the support network is there and then give the incumbent time to execute.

If Goody can't deliver in 2021 with the tools he has been given, then at least it seems that there is a decent plan B (who will have already had a year's experience with the playing list).

We tried for Adem last year to no avail and haven’t given up which has resulted in him coming on board.
I said earlier in this thread that out coaching staff is probably the most underwhelming group in the league outside of NMFC. Made up of okay past players and VFL coaches but otherwise very inexperienced.
I’m anticipating the appointment of Yze and hopefully another strong assistant will be just what Goodwin needs for support even though I’m still not sold on Goodwins capabilities.

I also agree in part to the sentiment that if Goodwin fails to make finals again next year then Yze would be a logical replacement.

Whilst I like his appointment from a talent point of view, the fact we are already looking at getting in new assistants basically states that Goodwin isn't going anywhere and for that reason alone, I hate this appointment!

He was never going anywhere this year.

However, if we struggle through next year then it will be a different story.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
