Rivers looks good but it is symptomatic of what this club is when he was extremely slow to get rid of it in the third, got run down, then jogged back to try and pressure the ball back from Freo. A typical effort from an MFC player. And it is constantly accepted by all.

They're a dysfunctional team, players who play the individual game and just don't link in and work together.  A few who bash and crash in, a few who chase kicks....no structure, no discipline, no leadership, no game plan.  Shown up by an opposition team who had all of those qualities tonight.

There's 8 players in the team who are VFL players at best, that's another issue.  The list has some talent at the top (but who do their own thing) but the bottom half are garbage.

A very frustrating game in the wet.

Freo defended well and played smarter football.

The Demons fumbled the ball too much and didn't take enough risks so we could have more scoring opportunities.

Sadly I think Simon Goodwin is gone. If his head is not on the chopping block then it will be now.

If the Melbourne Football Club board give him the benefit of the doubt for next season then the pressure on him will be immense.

Time to start talking to Alistair Clarkson's manager and inquire if he would like a fresh start at the Demons....

The most disappointing part of it all is that it means it is yet another wasted year for the Melbourne Football Club. That's 56 years in a row now....

Either way, we need to make some fundamental changes at the club so we can have success.

Almost a relief. The pretence was killing me.

At least we won't embarass ourselves against Essendon

Delusional. It wouldn't matter who the coach was, no-one's going to be winning finals with this list - not in the short-term anyway.

Not sure why it's so hard for people to face up to the fact that we just don't have the players. The proof will come when we cut a dozen of them and no other club picks them up.

Im starting to feel the same way.

Someone talked about hard it would be to instil a culture in covid time’s, I beg to differ. The entire list is in the one place together dealing with it together, this is the best time to instil, develop or enhance a culture... And this is what we get... not 1 leader in the entire footy dept, not 1!!!!

Playing Preuss as a forward is insanely dumb. I had hoped we'd see him get a long run in the ruck to send Gawn forward. Nope.

One of the most astounding decisions he's ever made.  We could play better as a key forward than he can.  He didn't even look like it, and he isn't mobile enough to get up the ground to give us a target.

It's rainy. It's windy. Ball is a bar of soap. And we try to finesse it with slick handball and threading the needle in traffic

Handpass to your teammate 1m away. He handpasses to a teammate 1m away. More demons pile in to help. Meanwhile Freo set up outside for the turnover

Laughable how many times they had men in space, while we always seemed to have about 8 players crowded around the ball. The more things change ...

Perfectly summed up. Under 12s stuff as they just waited to move it outside to waiting numbers. He can’t change it so we need to change the coach.

What did he say? Turned off to sink Negroni’s.

Called out Preuss, Baker, ANB, Hunt, Bedford not up to AFL standard

Goodwin was outcoached by a first year coach.

Players only showed fight in the last 12 minutes.

There is rot throughout this whole club. Not many tickers either.

Not sure why people think changing the coach will make a difference. Who knows whether or not Goodwin can coach. How many coaches have we had since 1965? Not one of them has been able to expel the mental fragility that pervades this shambles of a football club.

John Northey says hi.

Agree with almost every criticism here but I have one more to add. We have one of the best taggers in the comp James Harmes, who has wasted away at half back every game without tagging once this year. The week he comes out injured we decide that tagging is actually a viable tactic, and throw a ball using half forward onto one of the biggest and best contested mids in the game. Fyfe 22 touches and 7 clearances. Melksham 9 touches and 2 clearances. Beyond a joke at this point.

They're not going to sack him lads - forget about it. There are too many alibis this year. Played off back to back 4 day breaks in muck conditions after an exhausting win in Alice Springs. They're about where most judges expected them to be. You can complain about the game style all you like, but there's no planning or coaching for two fumbles in D50 and a banana from the boundary on the run.

The Board will give him and the game plan a clear look at it in 2021 with footy being back to 'normal' and I expect next year it's make finals or bust.

Garry nails it yet again.

Summary:

- Too many average players

- Good players play as individuals ie they lift individually when the game is on the line, but don’t lift as a collective and do the team things

Honestly can't tell if you're trolling with these comments but they're poorly timed right now considering your target audience.

Maybe it’s just that you’re not real clever.

I am indeed boating over to the islands from Geraldton on Saturday morning.

It’s my way of saying what many other are saying.
The season is down the toilet and I’m looking forward to my fishing trip.

And yes, there will be a lot of trolling over there. Looking forward to try the Nomad DTX minnow amongst the Spaniards.
I’ll post a photo for your viewing pleasure.

Have a lovely evening.

Glad he said Anb. Bloke should have been culled 2 years ago. Sums up the club.

Disgraceful  weak ( censored ) hopeless .  Could you not play for the jumper?    We stress out more than what the players do..

Go and enjoy your golf and your surfing and your petty games. Enjoy the sunshine. While we suffer.

It’s just a continuation

Year after Year

Our great jumper is not valued anymore

Respectfully disagree. Members control the club, never seen members this restless

Can't wait for Maxy's positives, and Goody's Magoo presser.

We lost it in the first half (not true though, we were crap all game except for a few minutes).

This isn't our brand.

Not where we need to be, we need to be a lot better as a footy club.

We're not thinking about finals, we're looking at the next game.

Blah blah blah

I cant see how Goodwin survives, how many members would want him to stay now?

They already lost 13k this year, to not crack 40k next season will be an utter embarassment.

You can't keep chasing your losses and have to look at the opportunity cost in keeping him. I've been a supporter but no more, he has lost me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for 2019 but to miss finals this year with one of the healthiest lists in the comp is unacceptable. Comparing him to Hardwick, Thompson etc misses the point. Those guys had 1 poor season after getting the team to a finals standard. You get a pass for 1 poor season and that was 2019 for Goodwin. 2020 big fail, see you later Simon.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
