GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Fremantle

Goodwin should instruct May to go long down the line from kick outs. Just in case we accidentally give ourselves a chance to score.

Tackling poor. Decision making poor. Did not let them have easy entries to 50 but were so focussed on defending that we didn’t consider leaving some player in 50 to try and score. Let’s see what we learnt last week with the wind (granted this time in the wet.)

The coach needs to own this performance

Friter to the back line?

Smith - even in the team

Smith should either be in fwd line or in the 2s

If we lose this it will be hilarious

Goodwin has to be accountable

I don't care about the weather

No comment until half time (except this one)

Now we have the wind, let's see if we learnt anything from last week

Stop blaming the umpires we are a poorly coached club same plan as last week everyone run back and leave the opposition loose to waltz in game should have been over in that quarter, this is just under 10's football.

Watch them do the 18 man defence and will go goaless for the half

Need to be well ahead by half time.

Why do 95% of hack kicks out of a contest go to the opposition? In contested footy there are always a lot of these but it seems ours never land with one of our free guys.

i think the question is why do opposition players read the flight of the ball better than our players.

Didn't know that 50% disposal efficiency was considered okay...

Compares to 75.3% for Freo

Really stupid players and horrible coaching. Still, three quarters left to atone!

I didn't say it was.  It's why I highlighted clearances and contested possies, which are what we build our game on.

Neal Bullen is like an under 12s kid who just kicks it anywhere

I remember a game out at Waverley in the 90s. Rain. Hail. Wind. One of the ad boards on the scoreboard blew away. It was a scoring spectacle. I think we won by 30-40 points. Against Eagles I think.

The state of the game at the moment is utterly horrid. And once again we are an indictment on this sport and league.

I remember one of those against the Hawks.  It never stopped all day and we had a solid win.  I went home soaked but happy as larry (whoever he is).

Didn't do a very good job

27 to 7 uncontested marks

We all know how this ends

When you look at the stats, we're doing okay.  We lead in clearances and contested possies.

However, the same problem arises - when we go forward, the ball is hitting the deck, and they run it out with ease.  There were at least three times they ran it from half back to inside 50 without us touching it.  Our set up is letting us down big time.

And let's be honest - these conditions don't suit guys like ANB, Vanders, Smith etc.  Fumbles and turnovers galore.

There's a  lot of conditions Joel doesn't seem to like - dry, wet, windy, still

we flooded back against the wind.  We will kick 5 this Q

relax guys

Yep and I highlighted that stat because it doesn't matter if you win contests if you butcher the ball

Anyway, let's go!

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
