Building ‘cohesion’ as the coach puts it. ?

Come on,  we lost 3 to injury and we had to drop a bunch as they were horrific.

I would have dropped Melksham and Smith too to bring it to 9 changes.

I was initially puzzled at the inclusion of Preuss, but looking at the other inclusions, it makes sense for a few reasons:

- Provides a genuine, strong forward target, meaning it’s harder to double team Weideman.

- The forward line is now packed with a mosquito fleet, which can feed off Preuss’s crumbs

- Crucially, Preuss is a good tackler and puts a fair amount of pressure on for someone his size.

- Obviously gives Max a chop out.

Not sure how this is going to play out - Tomlinson will obviously play back with Baker on the wing. Brave selections, certainly won’t die wondering!

7 changes normally rings alarm bells but off a 4 day break I reckon it’s not a bad call.

Not sure the Gawn-Preuss combo is a good idea. We tried that a few times in 2019, and it didn’t work outside of one quarter against Sydney.

I think Bennell’s career is on thin ice. You can make all the excuses you want, but the fact he’s not one of the 7 ins and not even an emergency speaks volumes. Hope he gets 1 more year, but I am expecting that he won’t.

Glad OMac is out. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and tries his best out there, but his performance against Sydney was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Maybe the worst since Gillies against Essendon in 2013. Never again please.

Just because Bennell isn't there doesn't mean he's on the outer. I expect him to be a regular in our team in 2021.

Any one know what is up with Bennell.?  Likely just resting him to get him right for next season. Not on injury list. Last time he played he looked very tired.

Is the pace of Hunt, Pickett, Bedford and Baker compromised by the inclusion of Preuss? Maybe the plan is to play Preuss out of the square and the let the smalls do the chasing work for him.

Hopefully they’ll play Smith forward

Finally pretty much every change I asked for, bit strange on brown I think he has been competing pretty well.

I think we will win this one.

Expecting a big game from Viney with Brayshaw being out.

No. I think they are great changes and you see these players will give 100% instead of the spuds we had in last week

Yes, correct. Mate of mine, who's a big Dees fan, has a close knit business group with a bunch of former Demons. They have a busy group chat where they talk about MFC. One of the former players is till involved with the club a bit and passed on some things Burgess told him including the Bennell management and that Burgo is a big fan of Petty.

TBH don't care anymore if posters who seem to have willy measuring contests here believe me or not.

Same person passed on Friday morning that Brayshaw and Harmes were injured, which I posted here and came out correct. Didn't see you reply to that post though strangely enough.

I don't think those two views are antithetical - it's a third of the team.

The only reason I am not on here ranting and raving is because it is a 4 day break but make no mistake - we stank against the Swans and 7 changes doesn't fill me with confidence for tomorrow night.

We should win well, but we should have won well last game...

With Hibberd back in, is there any chance we see Smith have a stint up forward and Gawn go behind the ball, rather than go up forward?

No

Brown the unlucky one but his inclusion is clearly to give Gawn a chop out off the 4 day break.

Rest of the changes I’m happy with. Surely this has to be Hunt’s big chance, I was really hoping he would make a place for himself in the team but he just doesn’t seem to do enough.

I hope we give Baker a real license to run hard on the opposite wing to Langdon, I’ve been wanting to see him in for a while now.

Bedford and Kozzie back together, would love to see these two buzzing at the feet of Weid and Preuss.

Off a 4 day break and a poor game I think these changes work. I wonder whether they have reassessed that position earlier in the year about managing these breaks.

Don't like it.

Too many changes lately.

They bring in players that haven't had a run this year (Bedford and Baker). There are only 3 games of the home and away left. Why haven't they been picked in earlier games? How are they supposed to develop match fitness, cohesion and be given time to cement a spot, (short term fixes), setting them up to fail.

Those that have had a run are not picked, Jetta,  Bennel, Lockhart, Hannan.

Selection committee really have no idea of developing a core and stable playing group.

Freo go in unchanged.

Four of the changes all to the bench. So not much enthusiasm for them.

Hoping, Pickett, Hunt and Vanders make an impact. We need them hard, intelligent and motivated.

Preuss and Hibberd should do their jobs.

I do like that we have pace.

A few lucky to still be there, Smith, ANB and Melky. Too many passengers this year.

C'mon Dees finish off the home and away season with some momentum.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
