You’d forgive him if he could hit the scoreboard. Seems a project player. At this stage we’ve overpaid.

That miss was inexcusable but it's only his first year give him time.

Give it time.  I think Picket has shown us enough to think he'll be pretty good when he gets his strength and fitness up to the level we need.

He needs to be coached properly, he needs to be told to not go in fifth gear all the time, slow down a bit, just needs a decent coach!!

All sizzle no sausage. Goes to ground way too easy. Roves to the wrong spots. If he had Spargos smarts he would be a killa dilla.

I think people's expectations are a bit too high for a first year player who went pick 12. Kossie has shown glimpses of special talent this year, but he obviously needs to be far more consistent in influencing forward contests. Whether that's by timing his crumbing, being more physical in marking contests, or getting to more tackles. He hasn't been very good over the past month, but we really should have older players performing better, pushing him out of the team.

Yup, cant really see the merit of evaluating draft decisions after 15 games from teenagers. Especially small forwards v midfielders but each to their own.

One thing you cant forgive his age for is he has one of the worst free kick differential of any player in the league. 4 v 17.  Must learn not to tackle high, push in the back at the end of a chase, enroach on marking space etc etc. Soft momentum killers.

I’m not going to pot/give up on a kid in his first year but that isn’t his first relatively straight forward miss. If we need to get someone to come in to mentor him then do it, but right now he seems to be dropping his dacks at really good opportunities. When he missed that goal I saw I shift on the ground from the players on both teams, it gave confidence to Freo and sucked the life out of us.

The trade was fine, it’s up to the team/players to get value for it.

kozzie has been bloody gross the last month or so.  He can't find the footy, he has no football IQ (this can't be underrated), and his skills are just so so.

Reminds me of Jay Kennedy-Harris. We sold the farm for Pickett and are not getting rewards. Some serious heat needs to be placed on our recruiting team. I think he will be a good player but he is not the type you'd use your first and second rounders for

Serong looks the better player so far .

Reminds me of Robbie Gray

Pickett looks exciting but never actually does anything and is as fumbly  as hell.

Geez some on this forum is quick to bag young players. A month ago he was Cyril mk 2. Do we ever learn? Judge the selection in 5 years time, and even then things can change.

The list of reasons we are losing could fill several volumes. An inconsistent first year player isn't on it.

I have no opinion on Serong, other than he is small for a modern midfielder. He does appear to be a genuine footballer though.

The recruitment of Pickett on the other hand breaks the first rule of drafting - only midfielders and key position players should be taken with first round picks unless your club is absolutely in the premiership window and drafting for urgent needs.

Aside from that, Pickett is an undersized, highly flawed, highly inconsistent player who has never influenced games enough even at lower levels, and I remain highly unimpressed with this piece of drafting. He does have some talent, but not enough to succeed within the MFC patented brand of destroying young players.

Kozi will be fine.  His reflexes are actually too quick for the game right now which I put down to a mixture of youthful exuberance and inexperience.  When he learns to adjust his skills and reflexes down to the speed of the game he will be brilliant. Blind Freddy can see the talent there.

Doesn't get the ball, doesn't kick goals. Didn't do it at U18 level either. Gives away frees, average skills, poor decision making. Some of that will improve obviously but he's not what you'd want from a high draft pick.

I was on the bandwagon in the draft period. It’s early days, too early to be conclusive, .but I’m certainly having doubts now. He makes so many errors in all aspects of his game and that goal he missed ...FMD. Not the first he’s missed from 15 metres either. Needs  time in the 2’s and to grow up. No more games now until he’s earned them

I tend to agree with this; he plays like the inexperienced kid that he is.  Unlike most kids, he actually needs to slow down and relax as he’s overdoing and overreacting with the ball in in hand.

Way too early to make a call on any of last years draftees.  Serong was always highly regarded in his draft year so there’s no shock he’s having an immediate impact, but he’s playing no better than Daniel Rich, Rhyse Palmer or Lewis Taylor did in their debut years.

im worried about pickett. he fumbles, he falls over, he goes too quick for his own good, he lacks composure, he can't read the play, his tackling is poor. Not sure he has the tools to make it. hope I'm wrong

Spot on. Perhaps when his body catches up to his mind, he will be a star. One thing for sure he's bloody quick. He is also quite brave.

Can you name the players you would take before him? Keep in mind he went pick 8, which is the pick we had.

Keeping in mind that we haven’t seen a lot of the players from last year yet: Tom Green, Jake Riccardi, Trent Rivers, Mitch Georgiades, Will Day

Will this be another one to come back and bite us? Pickett getting a lazy 4 disposals with Serong getting 22 last week.

Yes Rivers was part of the trade however this smells like Kelly/Tyson all over again.

Yes Rivers was  indeed part of the trade....  I like how casually you threw that in lol.  Kid is a gun.

So you started a thread basically saying Serong is beter than Pickett and Rivers combined.

Come on, man..........

Where are they all?

Not surprised they've gone missing...

Tonight was just a real glimpse of what to expect in the future. All the morons who expect this performance every week are kidding themselves. He's still a developing kid who is always going to have inconsistency in his game. In fact he will for the next 50 to 70 games of his career.

Olisik and the rest of the haters on here can [censored] right off for good.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
