Doesn't look injured at all.

So perhaps I need it explained to me. He's just played in the most important win for the year in which we were the solid underdog, he's done a significant tagging job in the second half to enable that win, and so what he's cracked the sads?

You can tell by the way Viney was walking off that he had a turtle head.

There's been a fair bit of air time about whether Petracca's kick was touched before or after the line.

Why no talk about why he wasn't paid the mark?

Doesn't fit the Fox/Hun narrative that the Saints were dudded.

For anyone that cares, full replay on Fox Footy just started.

The media is one place you can go if you fail year 10 and aren't hard working enough or competent in basic maths to be a tradesman.

They are the parasites of society and their opinion is less than worthless.Sports Journos are probably the epitome of what I am talking about.

I can't think of one I like in todays bunch. They wouldn't know an original idea if it Rogered them sideways.

But I think most of that camp were more concerned about him getting his body right, and not about his capabilities once he did. I don’t think his talent was ever an issue.

Fair point.

Watching his post match interview with Ben Gibson I thought Steve gave a pretty frank and accountable self assessment of that criticism.

Despite winning, I wasn't particularly enthused to watch the replay last night as it wasn't a very attractive game.  But there were probably some good highlights for us in the first quarter that I'd enjoy watching again.

Just looking at the match highlights on the web, that goal from Patracca outside 50 in the first quarter was a bloody HUGE kick.  Also enjoyed watching big Max nail a goal for us.

That’s fine you don’t rate him, but how did you rate his coaching tonight out of interest. Or did we just win because May and Trac are guns, and the Saints stuffed it?

Well the consensus on here is that Goodwin deserves a lot of credit.  But prior to the game consensus on here also suggested it was the worst team we have fielded in years and no one seemed to be happy with the ins and outs with the exception of a few.  What is true is that it is the first time in a long time he seems to be credited with 'coaching' well.  I'd be satisfied with him if this acknowledgment was more of a weekly basis thing.   I think any fan would.  But good on him tonight if he managed to coach well.  Long may it continue.

I don't hate the guy, I've just been disappointed with him immensely as a coach.

MInd you though, it is also very possible that we did simply win because May and Trac were guns.  Plonking Goody in the genius coach box all of a sudden is not for me.

Just checked the AFL site and we are playing in September this year. Going to play all four weeks this year.

Except that we won’t be playing in the last week of September even if we make the finals because it’s the bye weekend.

Every footy fan knows there’s only one day in September

I know that he didn't have a massive impact tonight...but thought our forward mix looked much more mobile with Brown replacing Tmac. Led up to the wings to provide a target out of defence (much like Tmac does), but felt more composed with ball in hand. I hope they persist with Brown in the absence of Jackson.

That was a Geelong/Eagles like game style.  Control/possession in the back half, fast ball movement fwd of centre.  It works against teams that play on and that thrive on getting the ball to ground, contest furiously and fast ball movement, which was us not long ago.

Geelong/Eagles often have fewer i50, fewer shots for goal, fewer clearances and more accurate kicking for goal than the op, which was us yesterday.  We aren't as polished as them (yet) but a significant leap has been taken to give us flexibility with our game style.

There have been signs of it all year; as early as the 2nd qtr of the Carlton game.  Back then it was raw and haphazard but the seeds were there.  Last night showed how far we have come with it.

Just for the record our game style is no longer ballistic, chaos football.  We have added the control/possesion element.  I'm sure we will play both at times but I'm pretty sure we will see a dominant style depending on who we play.  That is what Geelong/Eagles do.

At last we had a game plan designed to take away the op main strengths.

It was a good win set up by the coaches to implement a game plan to stop their run and it worked.

I felt we could have won by a lot  more if not for two factors .

Continuous turnovers, and kicking out passes that seemed to just pick out saints players standing in their own .

Being beaten in clearances again, Jack Steele absolutely killed us. We don’t seem to be playing a tagger at all anymore?

Overall the quality of the umpiring was decent tonight and mostly consistent

I felt this would be the case when I saw the umpiring selections, three names and numbers I didn't recognise

Saw that at the time and had a chuckle but I don't think it was Goodwin, I think he handed that off to Richo in the box and was listening in.

Yeah, kinda assumed that.  But, at the time it looked like a "Keystone Cops" moment!  LOL

Apparently he was touching cloth for most of that last quarter. Great effort to stay focussed on the job at hand.

Maybe if the boys are back in Melbourne they can watch the Grand Final Parade? ? Lucky that Dan Andrews gazetted the Public Holiday for the last Friday in September. ?????

A backpack full of bricks would be more mobile than T. McDonald right now.

Fantastic team defence last night, taking away St K's run for most of the night. A couple of Jones clangers helped keep them on our coat tails and I'll have to watch the replay but it felt like everything Hannan touched he turned over. I was a little worried in that third term when it looked like we were having problems with our midfield - forward connection again. Mitch Beige should probably get another chance after last night.

Just like reading a demonland postgame thread after a loss.... just change the names :)

Of course. Losing Sucks

Particularly when it is a game you should win...

How we won that game given our lack of skill level across the ground I'll never know.

And to that stupid umpire who yells out 'not 15' to a clear 20m kick from Mitch Brown in the final seconds needs to be sited. He got completely sucked into the moment and thought 'oh we can't have time wasting, not 15'.

I want a personal apology from the afl first thing Monday morning
