Don’t think the number of changes is the problem and nobody seems to be upset about TMac or Harmes being dropped. They have been [censored] all year.
I am just confused by some of the changes against a fast team, after we got burnt by a fast team 6 days ago. That’s all.

And we really performed well against. It was not pace that beat us, it was the fact they got the ball and used it better in the 2nd half.

A bit going on this week it seems...

Not really. Preuss in for Gawn (a given), Sparrow injured, Fritz a naughty boy, TMac and Harmes out of form and Lockhart probably a bit stiff. Jones was going to play last week until he was injured at the last minute. The others are being rewarded for their training/scratch match form. No conspiracies required.

Hard to argue with the outs. Lockhart perhaps, but he's been OK, nothing more. Could be more to it, who knows, no-one here does in any case. Perhaps the FD feel that Rivers brings more.

Fritsch will be missed.

Not if he was going to kick 2. 4 or similiar.

The Eagles analysis shows they won 8 or 9 straight by being the most accurate team, kicking low numbers of points, and goals from everywhere.

But last night hey lost that accuracy kicking 9.7 - and lost.

Fristche's innaccuracy lately is too risky on this must win game and he needed the message. I support this particular change

Don't entirely hate the selections. I think for the most part its about putting the fittest team on the park especially with a 5 day turnaround.

Lockhart stiff but can't help but think it might be a fitness thing perhaps as he's looked sore since the corky against the crows. Rivers gives you a different look, better ball used and more dash off half back. I imagine Jay will be back for Thursday.

We've been carrying Harmes and Tmac all year. I like the call to cut them finally. Tom has looked off the pace and Brown gives you more versatility. Will be interesting to see who pinch hits in the ruck between Brown/Tomlinson/Weid.

As others have noted Omac in to look after their resting ruckman up forward. I imagine we'll see more Tomlinson up the ground.

Jones for experience I guess....

Wagner been playing consistently in the practice games. Will be very interesting to see where he will play as he's being spending more time up the ground on practice games.

Fritsch really hurts. Been arguably our most consistent forward. Apart from his wayward kicking he's been our best target all year and works well with Weid.

We have no quick small defenders with Lockhart out. We’ve added a bunch of slow players and going in too heavy against a fast team. Madness.

Aside from no obvious replacement for Lockhart, it’s not that much of a shock if you break it down. We will likely need Brown to provide a meaningful contribution to pull it off though.

The lack of speed is a concern, as it usually is when we play the Saints, but with the right mindset we have the tools to get it done.

Hunt, Oscar B, and Bennell I would have thought Obvious Inclusions we will be torched on the outside!

Hallf right.

The other half was lack of work rate to spread and cover.

We can take it as read that fritter, tmac, lockhardt and harmes didnt work hard enough. Simples.

Speed is only useful offensively when the player who receives the ball is not held up and has space to run into.

The doggies were gifted both.

It is not a footrace. If you get the ball and move it properly you can look pretty quick. NO one bar no one gets into AFL without some good leg speed.

I’m glad Fritsch got dropped...the amount of (gettable) clutch goals he misses is ridiculous

The midfield work their arze off to get the ball down there and he misses!

Play him back or not at all

Six changes

In:  Brown, Gawn, Jones, J. Wagner, Oscar McDonald, Rivers

Out:  Fritsch, Lockhart, Tom Mac, Preuss, Sparrow, Harmes

Goodwin and the selection committee need to have a long [censored] hard look at themselves FFS.

What a joke. Preuss, Lockhart and Harmes all dumped.

Maybe coach if u played Harmes in his right position as a tagger in the midfield he wouldn’t be out of [censored] form.

Lockhart really are u [censored] blind.

Preuss, well the saints aren’t tall so why play him.

Unbelievably  STUPID STUPID STUPID selections.

I think we will beat them actually.  Saints are much improved but nothing special.

This is the worst side picked since the end of 2018 season .

Awesome, I was just thinking that what we really need is a big slow non-assertive defender who's not even as good as his brother - who funnily enough could actually play the position better than him if he wasn't dropped.

WTF Goodwin.  If we get pumped you should go immediately.

Massive complaining about lack of defensive effort from forwards, Fritsch out. St Kilda plays a tall forward line, Omac in. Worries that we’re  not resting enough players, Lockhart - young player- out. Endless complaints about tmac, -dropped. Bemoaning - why isn’t Brown getting a game? Brown selected. Wagner has his playing career on the line, he will play the game of his life. Jones at the end of his, a proud man, will play out of his skin.

Hold the negativity until we lose Demonlanders.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
