Polec has been delisted from North with a promise to re-rookie him. So his wage which was an issue has now disappeared (i.e., paid out by North). I wonder if it is worth having another chat to him about coming across....

Theres not a lot of love for him on this site but I think he's a way better player than given credit for. Big questions around his defensive game which wont endear him to goody or to the club ethos. He could come on a low wage, sort out his game,  and  join Dunstan as immediate back up with a flag chance if he applied himself and the cards fall his way.

I reckon, FWIW, that Polec has played his purple patch about two years ago, elsewhere, of course. We do not need him - we do need to continue the development of so many younger players ( from whom, many Polecs could well be discovered). Further, I firmly believe this will occur within existing arrangements and our sudden coaching improvements.

I think we should go for him. vandenBerg and Jones out Dunstan and Polec in. It makes sense for our age demographic.

You are not wrong, and he is older than most of our core. I’m thinking about the next few years and what we look to do to have a sustained run. Maybe Polec pushes Baker and Rosman to either be the man to push Gus back into the guts or see their chance slip away.

im still hopeful we draft a winger, but there is a good one right in front of us so why not take the punt.

Subject to recovery of fitness, I'd like to see Tomlinson back on the wing - I think this is important to get Gus off the wing and back into the 'corridor' from whence his goodly fragrance emanated. I have a good deal of faith in Tomlinson and his play, his ground coverage and his 'space' awarenesses. It looks as though many consider that Petty will hold down CHB next season rather than trialling him up forward, and with the additional and rather recent team play coming out of defence, Tomlinson might be 'found' next season, out there on the flanks, in space and ready to take us forwards.

He just turned 29 so maybe he is a player Geelong should recruit.

The MFC need player with a good upside and around 22-26 years of age.

Next year.

Missed 16 games due to persistent hamstring injuries in 2021.

5 games, one of which was as a medical sub.

Now delisted from a side which finished bottom of the ladder.....after being moved on from Port as well....and people entertain the idea of bringing him to Melbourne?

I'm tending to agree, lets see what Chocco, Yze and Goody could do with him. Not the worst idea going around.

Well worth look at as he would have 3/4 seasons perhaps but could be given 1 year with option of another or only the one first up.
Clearly our defensive mantra is at stake so he maybe a half forward/ wing/ half back attacking weapon of depth and form and upon injury.

Would put pressure on Baker and Rosman snd all players again to keep honest with form and contribution.Additionally Polec could not let his ego wander among our culture which will sort him out in the first sessions of pre season I would think if necessary.

Interesting  but worthwhile move that is smart money wise and depth also.

Before Port he was at Brisbane...

Has been at three clubs at 29 years old.  Now paid out the last 2 years of what was said to be a lucrative contract.

Rarely shown team first attributes.

Not our type!  Pass.

Feels like this guy's been around forever.

I can recall him playing against us at the G one day, way back when Dean Bailey was coaching us.

I'd take him for minimum chips, but he strikes me as someone who would demand a bit of kanga despite getting delisted.

Talent has never been his issue.

Team ethic, staying focused and playing his role - all big question marks.

Zero chance of coming to us. We recruit team players and players of the highest character

You are a poor judge. Tomlinson was pretty much clueless on the wing. Looked by being a failed recruit until they put him in defence.

Best game I saw Tomlinson play was on a wing at Casey in 2019 or 20 in the preseason. It was against Adelaide and he just dominated. It’s never translated to the regular season but there is some talent there.

that said I think it’s more likely he is competing for the Hunt/Hibbo/Smith spot as a lockdown small defender.

Agree with you CrankFranky a defender on big  players is Adams forte.
Hasnt got the skills to go with smaller forwards like Hibbo has or Hunty, so don't agree with Dee-licious that  all those are fighting for  the small minding defenders position. That is Bowey or Salem's job or sometimes Hibbo or Hunt.

Petty and Tommo are like for like IMO.

Smithy is also a bigger player defender type if his minding of Charlie Cameron in the QUAL. Is any guide.

Tommo last year did not relish the wing but maybe  he can be switched there during a game perhaps on occasions.

Lets keep Lingers and Gus if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Having posted earlier that I would be ok with Polec as depth I believe he could be ok on the wing also HFF and HBF as a dashing player in the Hunt mould.

Polec is still owed decent money for 2 years at North. If a team wanted him he would've been traded, with North paying a decent chunk of his wage.

If he really was a free rookie I might consider it. But he's going in the rookie draft with a 2 year 500k contract to still be paid.

The window to target Polec was a month ago. Clearly no club was interested. North moving him on to their rookie list is just managing list spots.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
