Too many slow, dumb footballers in this team. How many times do we have 2-3 books going for the same ball then they get it on the outside

Happened a lot that quarter.

The big takeaway from that term is the pressure in our forward half.  We had no problems getting it in there, however our efforts once it hit the deck, and then the willingness to run defensively, was shocking.  No other way to put it.  No excuse for it either.

They made a few changes, like English up forward permanently, and it's changed their approach entirely.

Obviously the game is over but I'm interested to see the response in this last term.

When other teams get clearances against us, they waltz it out.

And the defence from our forwards has been disgusting.

Hate to make excuses but they are getting every lucky bounce and rebound possible

Nothing to do with luck. They are making their own luck but winning the ball, spreading hard, attacking contests. We are standing still. We have made no moves to stop their most damaging players. Goodwin is so happy to drop Jetta and let Harmes and Melksham stink it up for weeks on end.
Pickett has given us nothing and keeps getting rewarded. This season is just another waste of time.

Embarrassing and potentially season destroying quarter against a team who isn't even that good.

False sense of security from 3 wins against trash.

That's where we are at.

Also, Trengove speaks incredibly slowly ?

We are no good under real pressure.

It happens time and time again

Reminds me of the Collingwood game of 2017.

When stakes are high and the opportunity is right in front of us to grab, we simply fail.

What a disgraceful absence of leadership both on and off the field.

Melksham giving away a putrid 50 is all I'll remember from this game.

Our team defence was absolutely destroyed that quarter. Our back 6 have been good all game. What does that tell you....?

That in a head to head between coaches and game styles we just got out scored by 6 goals in a short quarter, and didn’t respond.

Please can Goodwin go. He’s simply got no plan B, and isn’t creative.

Bevo: Sets the theme of the game, has the players up and about, makes moves that give them huge momentum.

Goody: Corporate speak and crossed arms.

Our set up from the start of this game was terrible and it hasn’t changed. We can’t fix the centre taps, the clearances, nor around the ground, they kick out with such ease I’m sure they aren’t even trying anymore.

Posted

As soon we we were put under any pressure all our mids go back to trying to win the same ball and leave them the outlets. They have just shown why we still need 2-3 good runners on the outside. Still had chances that quarter but Melksham, Fritsch and Sparrow unable to take them. Lets see if we drop our heads or have a crack still in the last.

this quarter

This is a genuine finals team, rested, healthy.

This is the real Melbourne.

Sorry, folks.

Agree beat two crap teams and Pies who were cooked. Dogs have loose players everywhere. We are bottom 8 at best. Good team don’t have goalless qtrs

If the dogs have extras down back you either have to kick it deep to the pockets or hit up short targets. So many of the dogs attacks began from kicks to the danger zone, 30 metres out dead infront.

Never mind, our last quarter fitness is sure to save us !!!!

Watch us eek out a stalemate in the last. Boys must’ve thought it’d just happen, like it did the last 3 games

That quarter summed up in the last 10 seconds. Hannan free in the 50, Weiderman turns around and kicks it straight to a dogs player.

yep. Hilarious

Another season wasted in one shocking qtr of footy.

Well it was good to see the boys dig in and show some fight when things started going against us.

This group is exactly what we know they are...not bad when things are going ok and [censored] terrible when put under some pressure.

Failed test. Did not deserve finals after Port debacle and proved today that we are nowhere near up to it anyway.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
