On large coin until 2021. Would the club look at him again if he became available? You would doubt it, plus you wouldn't make a move until the end of next year so you could get him on a more reasonable contract. It's such a shame the way things have gone for him. He is a highly talented player who was capable of kicking 50 goals a season. Now he can't crack an average Freo side. He would be a great acquisition for us particularly as Weideman matures and Jackson emerges. Would give us the best attack in the competition. Go for it, l say... 1 Quote

Big no from me. I understand the off field issues are worse for him in Perth, than they are in Melbourne. He may well welcome a more stable personal situation in Melbourne if that is the case. 1 Quote
Garbo 1,567 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 The big thing hogan offered besides goals and which none of our current key fwds offer was his up field play, he had a great tank and was arguably more valuable playing as a link player on the wing who could go fwd and create a mismatch. I feel he could play in a team which already has Weid and Jackson, probably taking Melksham or Tomlinsons spot 2 1 Quote

WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 3 talls won't work. Hogan will stun Jackson's growth. I say no. Quote

If Freo jumped off him after two years then you would have to question what is going on with him, especially considering that they gave up Pick 6 to get him. He should be in the prime of his career right now and he can't get a game. That has to be a concern. Especially that he went home and should have been far more comfortable over there personally. I hope he can get himself right. He was our only shining star there for quite a while. Wev'e moved on. 4 goals on Rance in 1 quarter against the tiges was magic. Quote
Cards13 9,117 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I didn’t think he was leaving at the time, I didn’t think we’d be in the frame to pick up Harely let alone get him on the park in year 1... who knows but you’d lean towards it being unlikely to happen for a number of reasons already raised in the thread. Would he be a positive or negative acquisition for our young playing group or could or leaders help lead him on and off the field? At his best it’s a no brainer but has many chances to hurt long term. Whatever happens, good luck Jesse. Quote
DemonLad5 1,642 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 If we could bring him in for cheap then yes not a top priority though 3 1 Quote
Ron Burgundy 8,588 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 He’s a complicated dude. Unless he really wanted to come back to the Dees, probably not. I’m over watching that dance of the club having to convince certain players to want to play for us. We’re no longer that club. 1 Quote

The beauty of our talls: Gawn, Jackson and in this case Hogan is they are all versatile. Hogan used to do some of his best work up the ground and was particularly mobile and had a great engine. Jackson also, indeed when he was recruited the club said he could play key position/ruck as well as mobile mid. And so it has turned out to be. The addition of Hogan would make our mid field the strongest in the AFL, and our forwards unstoppable. Bring it on l say... Quote

DeeZee 7,496 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) In hindsight the trade worked out really well for us, as May is a brute of a full back and Hogan, stil cannot get on the park. Edited August 21, 2020 by DeeZee 1 Quote
Half forward flank 1,022 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Its a complex e for sure but really comes down to this... Would be more likely to win against the Doggies today with Jessie in the side? Quote
Biffen 12,949 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) Jesse, I'll cut fresh flowers, make the wine cold, sit by the phone, put on Cologne-buy you a pack of smokes, whatevs. Forwards that take grabs and kick straight are rare as rocking horse [censored]. Totally agree that from an outsiders perspective things seem to have gotten a bit worse over there, and a move might be good for him, I just don't think it would be to the Dees. Whatever happens; I hope he gets it all together, bloke has been through more than most his age. 1 Quote

markc 975 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 yes for a low trade cost and base wages he was troubled here also( not as bad as in WA ), but seems MFC did a far better job of handling him. Sadly he lost this support and found his mates and so on back home Freo as we all know was chasing him for years and made many promises, I think once they got the prize they never backed these up and he's been left on his own. Back in the right environment I truly believe he can get back to his best. Quote

Not doubting his talent, but he got what he apparently wanted and has gone backwards ever since. Of course it's about the romanticism. Haven't seen anyone pining for any other forwards that can't get a game. Players careers aren't always linear and consistent, ask Tom McDonald. That completely disregards the foot injuries he's had to deal with since 2018. Quote

Back in the right environment I truly believe he can get back to his best. Reminds me of Jeff Farmer. Was on the brink of becoming one of the all time great small forwards in the game. Went to Freo and found off field trouble and was never the same again. Even Farmer has admitted that if he had his time again he would have stayed. Such significant was the better support he received in Melbourne. Edited August 22, 2020 by dazzledavey36 Quote
