Completely agreed.

WA made it very difficult for the AFL initially, while QLD has been more than accommodating (although don't get me started on their premier allowing AFL players and officials into the state, but not granting permission to people who need it for medical reasons.... she is an absolute [censored]).

Besides nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to give WC a leg up.

Completley agree. I just saw Palusjwhateverhername is on the box before with her mischevious grin about the GF and the word assassin kept running through my head.

WA, much like Tassie, has a very big leg up in keeping their state Covid free. They only happen to have the most isolated city in the world.

So good on them for their work, but if they had the proximity that the other states have to one another, or their population density, their situation would most likely be similar to that of QLD.

I’m sure there’s many people here in WA a bit disappointed to not get the GF here but it’s only a game of footy. People frothing over how arrogant the Premier has been and how WA made it difficult for the AFL need to wake up.
My ageing parents are in Colac and I can’t get to see them for however long who knows? All thanks to an ill-prepared government a ****ty Premier.

Keeping the virus out of WA was made the priority by the Premier a long tome ago and he rightly said at the time that our isolation is our biggest weapon and he was right. Not to give a stuff about a game of footy or anything else was also the correct call.
Right now (as pretty much always) we’re propping up the rest of the country as the economy goes down the gurgler.
I’m much happier to be enjoying the freedoms as opposed to many of you poor  buggers over there in the eastern states.
I don’t get why people are so willing to lay the boots into WA over a bloody GF.

Jealousy maybe?

That's a very difficult situation @McQueen. Hopefully these restrictions can get lifted soon so that you can get over here to see them.

Looks like AFL get exemptions when the state wants the GF. They are going into isolation for 2 weeks. Wonder if we are sending the same security team to monitor them too? ?

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Wednesday morning that the major sporting event would inject "millions of dollars" into the state's economy, but she would be respectful in her celebrations, when the official announcement was made, out of concern for Victoria.

We'll never see the numbers but given they have paid millions to attract the game it's doubtful they will make millions.

No interstate travellers, minimal hotel bookings, restaurants operating at losses due to social distancing.

Of course as others have pointed out there is that wonderful immeasurable benefit..... television exposure to billions around the world ?

Can't wait for the Chinese viewing numbers

The Grand Final at the Gabba ?  NRL is hating it.  That is a big deal for the AFL  munching  into the enemies Territory.

Well done GIL.

Queensland deserve it anyway you see it .   W A  will have to wait their turn  for another Pandemic and to be honest IMO they wouldn't have chased it   if the Eagle's were no chance of making the finals.  Probably not true l was just saying.

Port Adelaide ,    West Coast  and  Brisbane. All in the top 4 and look secured.  Yep ! Brisbane Lions can smile for now.

One of my best mates bought a house in Wagga Wagga. He works there and has a permit. His wife and 3 kids have been declined entry into the state. They have sold their house in Vic and it has settled.

They aren't even allowed to go into quarantine for 14 days.

Well, Optus is clearly the best ground, but politically the Gabba is the place to hold it. Having said that, having it at Optus might just mitigate the sense of alienation and discrimination the West feels and be thererefore worth it for that. Eh... the Gabba management have been unhelpful to footy over the years, so give it to them and give them an opportunity to appreciate it, if for nothing more than the flood of money it would bring to the organization.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
