Stephenson , pretty sure he got dropped v melbourne,  might want to leave the filth, could he be our other wingman ?

IMO Stephenson would be too much of a gamble

Zac Williams linked to Carlton, Essendon, Norf and The Saints.

likely to stay at GWS htf do these clubs come up every year ? How would the saints even afford him after Hill and Butler, Carlton with Jack Martin.. perplexing !

Couple of things:

* we should raid the hawks, they are in for a slow rebuild and some of their class players won't be in their premiership window eg gunston

* norf will be getting nervous about trading out their pick 8 last year

* the knock on polec is his defence effort unlike Langdon who runs both ways and more. goodwin isn't a fan of those types from my read

Yes, we got Kozzie and Rivers (after Freo pick trade) for 2020 R1 plus 2019 #26.

The 1st rounder tied to us could be around 16-19 due to academy/FS/mid 1st rd PP

Will be interesting to see if we trade up the draft board this year. A lot of unknowns about draftees who have had very little footy exposure over the last 12 mths. JT/JM might just hold tight and hope that who they want makes it our Haw 2nd rounder

In the Hun today, Clarkson is venting about the draft being so compromised and unfair, that you can’t rebuild a list from it. Interesting for him to be on the other end of a situation, which enabled his team (along with Geelong) to win multiple flags, whilst other teams (including us) were hampered for years with the draft concessions handed to the expansion teams. Our crappy recruitment didn’t help matters, by the way, but the 2020 draft has nothing on what GWS were handed.

What about getting another 3rd tall defender to have Lever play on the 3rd fwd and have whoever we can get play on the 2nd defender as a lock down role?

Not sure who but could be an option.

Omac aint bad, but if there is an upgrade out there then by all means we should chase it.

We simply have to unearth another winger or someone with some outside class. I don't mind the Polec chat, but his speed is a touch concerning.

I like the look of Scrimshaw (although doubt we'd be able to pinch him).

I don't think we will get Zac Williams

We already have the 3rd tall defender - his name is Tom McDonald. We should instead be looking at that classy outside ball winner who can either play off a wing/inside or off half back - Whitfield, Gaff, Williams come to mind and a tried and true key forward who can just clunk marks and kick goals - Finnlayson and Gunston seem two gettable options.

We should steer well clear of Polec - enormous price tag, and for someone of his "talents" shouldn't be on the outer of a side struggling to even make up the numbers. Something is wrong there and the MFC should give him a wide berth.

Scrimshaw has only been on the hawks list 2 years after coming down from the Gold Coast so no idea why that would even be an option especially given Hawks rebuilding around their young talent.

I hope we are privately pushing a big case for Adam Saad. He is everything we are currently missing to the final pieces. Him and another quick small forward.

I also think we need to look at sending Tom McDonald down back. Whether it's this year or next. When I see Tmac, Lever and May, I see a pretty potent back half. McDonald down back would free Lever up big time.

iirc we recruited Petty as a tall defender.

He had a few good games as a fwd last year but for mine it wasn't a big enough sample to suggest he plays as a permanent fwd.

So he could be our other tall or a very good swingman.

Isn't gaff meant to be a free agent again this year due to some contract clause? If so he would complement our midfield perfectly!

I'd also be looking at Gunston, 29 at the start of next year can certainly give us 3 decent years to push for a flag.

Lastly Saad will also fill a void.

Not sure if anything will get done this year given the change in list sizes but I really think those three players would push us into the top 4

I hope we are into Papely - send Pruess and draft picks (Maybe first rounder next year) to swans , as they are desperate for a ruckman

Papley comes with a huge price tag now and the Swans will want plenty in return.  For the same price, you may be able to secure a classy midfielder which is more our immediate need. I see the connection with Preuss and the Swans desparately needing a ruckman.

Higgins would walk into our side in front of at least 3-4 players. If age is an issue, he’s 3 times the player Jones is and he’s still in the side.

Would have him in our forward line ahead of Fritsch, Melksham, Spargo, Kossie.

Would play him on the wing ahead of Gus or Tomlinson.

Would play him off HBF ahead of Hibberd/Rivers

We need ball users that can hurt and he does that, regularly, in a rubbish side.

3 times the talent of Jones???? Mate please

Maybe I’m blind since I just hate Essendon but Saad does nothing for me at all

I am a Clarkson fan but this is hilarious. We have been on the poor end of draft compromises (and didn't help ourselves with poor drafting) but for him to come out now complaining is freaking amazing.

Not only that they have raided clubs and sold future picks like a drunk throws cash at a strip club, Now they find they have no picks and the talent has been compromised. No [censored] Sherlock

This is fantastic.

We should go for the juggular and start raiding any talent they do have. No one will want to sit there why they rebuild for 5 years.

Do it melbourne. And we get their 2nd round pick this year.

Sweet

Norf supporters on BF were gleefully "death-riding" MFC for the 1st round pick we traded to them - that thread has gone a bit quiet now.  I think they fell off a couple of weeks ago and have their foot caught in the stirrup and are getting dragged through the dust. At least they'll the picks they dreamed of at the start of the year - 2 & a pick in the teens, but I don't think they'll get them the way they hoped.

Maybe we should have a "Death riding Hawthorn's 2nd round pick" thread to show them how it's done.

People forget very quickly Tom was actually quite a good key defender. the biggest weakness in his game was his kicking out of D50 but i think his field kicking overall has improved a bit these days. he has the odd brain fart but on the most part he's pretty good.

Preuss and #21 for Geelongs two first rounders (WCE 1st from T Kelly trade) would be sweet. That's approx #15 and #17 imo

They'll be desperate after Richmond's talls stretch them in the GF.

Geelong wouldn't do that for one of pick 15 or 17 let alone both. Preuss is worth a 3rd rounder at best. He's a big frame but a pretty poor ruckman in all honesty

Judging by the way the club has traded and drafted in recent years, I doubt that we will be holding what is currently our first pick (being Hawthorn’s R2 selection) by the time the draft rolls around.

Tyson was worth a pick 25-35, Preuss a 30-40. I think Preuss reputation has grown and he's now a 25-30. Geelong are in a premiership window and will need to plug an immediate hole while they've got Hawkins, Danger and Selwood. They will be looking to use at least 1 first round for immediate impact.

Now take into account the compromised draft and that's maybe 20 and 22 for Preuss and 26.  That's a little overs, but not by much.

Looking back, how much was Ottens worth and what did they actually pay for him? He was their missing piece, and one of the most valuable players on their premiership team. You'd do first round picks any day of the week to complete your list.

Geelong will be desperate after richmond or WCE expose their ruck/Bliclavs circus.

I think it’s too late to happen for this year but if I were I would start looking at a return to the defence next year. Problem is does that put him back in the same issue of being behind others?

Hearing Clarkson get upset about the draft being compromised this year is absolutely music to my ears. As many have said our recruiting and subsequent development did us no favours but the compromise GC/GWS drafts set teams like us back. So I hope the Hawks have years down the bottom for their arrogance at nabbing players that had broken bodies and past it in the hopes of maintaining their top 8 status.

I hate the cats but they at least have the intelligence to invest in some good draftees. (They can be next on the drop off though!)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
