@ding

That Salem and the man in my avatar are my faves shows my faves aren't necessarily our best players.  Sorry for side setting your question but there is no logic to my choice of favourites.   I like the way they play.

Generally, I don't put expectations on them or our players.  I love them all.  They bring different skills to the team and I'm happy for them to achieve their potential and do their best.

The reason for mentioning Salem was that by all accounts he is very highly regarded and that could be tested if another club tried to poach him has a pre-FA.

Edit:  Forgot to mention, Salem's after the siren goal to beat Ess in his first year, is right up their as one of my favourite mfc moments, along with the Watts goal to beat the Pies on QB, 2017 and the Hannan goal in the finals.

Can't remember when Salem became a fave but I guess it was after that goal.

Are you serious? Papley is worth 2 first rounders. Why would Sydney want Tom McDonald who has been in and out of a side and overtaken by a 18 year old ruckman?

To be serious, it'd be our 2nd rounder, next years first and Tom McDonald for Papley.

You are why trades get done. That trade would get laughed out the door at

It was a 1st rd pick I was eluding to.  TMac and a first rd pick.   Sydney are crying out for a key forward support for Franklin and McCartin.  Papley is a gun but let’s not over sell a forward pocket player here

Just for your info I’m not involved in Dees trades but if they ask me I’ll let you know as I’m sure you can provide greater insights Mr Football

I would be up for trading Preuss, particularly if we think Bradtke will make it and keep him.

Geelong might be interested and we might like one of their excess small forwards.  Here's a post from BigFooty on the subject from a Geelong supporter, I really don't know enough about the bolded players mentioned as possibles to make an evaluation:

We have a lot of small forwards/pinch hit mid types even with Ablett retiring - Miers Parfitt Fogarty Dahlhaus Atkins Close Narkle Simpson Evans Taheny Tarca and Parsons is a lot of guys fighting for 3 or 4 spots. The first 3 on that list are highly rated and I doubt we will let them go Dahlhaus wanted to come home he won't leave but any of the rest are gettable but I don't know how much interest Melbourne would have in them.

I'm along these lines of thinking. Along with Geelong there might be a few other clubs interested so we should get something decent in return.

Papley is in a weird position where his worth is 2x 1st rounders, but no club wants to pay that price for a small forward in a naturally inconsistent position (unless you're paying something like 2x pick 14+, etc).

Cedrick Cox from BL has been discussed internally. Probably not much in it but a name who was raised.

Having let Jack Martin slip last off season. CCox and Cockatoo have been names ive pencilled in to look at. Cockatoo has obvious talent and seeing as we've fixed bennell i can see a similar thing happening here, they/he must be losing patience a la linc mccarthy down at the cattery. Interesting that Cocky wasnt on that list old mate geelong had on bigfooty.

also im intrigued why chandler is being discussed in the small defender role - has he trained there/played their in the 2s?? i thought he was a forward and played that role in his senior game to date.

I think like Lockhart, Chandler has been modelled into a small, zippy defender.

It's intriguing given a lot of these guys were drafted as forwards.

Agree, a pick is useless at the level Preuss would command (i.e 3rd round+) in a highly compromised draft when we should be in contender mode.  It would have to be for a useful player that fills a need we have and is excess to the other team's requirements, e.g. like Butler from Richmond.

the most amazing thing about the butler trade is that the tiggas didn't even use the pick they got for him

it really was a gift for the aints

The decision to trade Preuss would be done largely to preserve cap space and also keep our goodwill with the player agents. I cannot see us getting a fair return given he has hardly played. In saying that, he has proven himself as a very good back up and I would ideally like to keep him.

I doubt you will see a player swap trade as they are rare as hen's teeth these days.

Interesting player. Creative half back wingman who is very good by foot and would be up with Salem as our best ball user.

Who else we looking at @Dannyz?

IMO the best trading strategy for us would be to pick over the lists of North Melbourne, Hawthorn and Adelaide for veterans who will be finished by the time these clubs are back in contention. We should be looking for top level talent and trying to plug holes in our side. Hawthorn did this and picked up a Norm Smith Medallist.

This is the type of players I would be looking at:

North: Higgins, Brown, Tarrant

Hawthorn: Smith, Breust, Gunston

Adelaide: Seedsman, Smith, Lynch, Talia

Good call.

I wonder what a Talia would command in terms of salary and contract? Still 29 come the end of this year. We'll definitely be looking at full back options to free up May and Lever, and enable Tomlinson to play wing or half forward.

I used to coach Seedsman. Arrogant little bugger, but could be handy outside run and provide decent outside ball use.

Mmmm Tyson for Preuss

The potential list-size squeeze is not just a challenge but a huge opportunity. Chances are a number of mostly untried players will get cut (think Baker for example). I'm not remotely across it. Anyone on here have any idea of who might be in that category from other clubs and worth a delisted free agent looksie?

Why do we need Tomlinson on the wing when Vanders is doing a good job there? Don't need Talia develop a backman through the draft.

This is not so much a topic for 'trade', and I apologise if it's been mentioned earlier in the thread, but for those who are bemoaning our lack of first round pick - we still have the future second rounder from the Hawks up our sleeve from the Frost trade which, right now, would have us at Pick #21.

Now that will blow out somewhat with the academy picks, but it gives us something better to work with either at the draft or on the trade table than we would have done with our own picks.

Because Vanders is not playing on a wing the entire time.

As for developing a backman, I'd be using Petty, but we're not sure of the extent of his injury. I reckon we need talent that can play tomorrow. Talia would fulfil that need. As long as he's not too expensive.

But maybe I'm being a bit greedy here and we should just stick with what we have...

I reckon that will be the attitude from our club as a whole.

All clubs can certainly look at ways to get better through the draft and by trading or signing free agents, but I think we are all beginning to see that we have a very talented list that we should be backing in to improve.

And Petty might almost become a new recruit in 2021 after missing 2020 altogether.  I think he has some real upside for us at both ends of the ground.

Not much of a step back from the 1st rounder we swapped to Norf, which will be Pick #18

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
