Does anyone recall the names of the 3 umpires that destroyed us last week?

I do. They are the exact same 3 umpires we have today. I don't think I've ever seen that before. So essentially AFL house was pleased with their efforts last week, so it's only going to be far, far worse this week.

We don't stand a chance in this game, and it's got nothing to do with our skills or effort, or even gameplan.

If you are so inclined, you can view the umpire appointments for current or previous rounds here:  https://aflua.com.au/umpire-appointments/

#31 was the worst of the three in our game last week. Hopefully he has received a bit of 'feedback' re his performance

May or lever should have got the captaincy for today’s game.

Melk and goody are good mates and we know how goody has his favourites.

If u based it on form then May would have been the first choice.

Yes very far down the track !!

Maybe in his final season in 2030 Macca !!

What a waste and I appreciate a creative HB like the next fan but don't waste a player at least put him up forward fir a 40 plus goal season !!!!

Well in 3 or 4 years time we might have an absolute gun midfield which could allow us to play Oliver on a half back flank.

Imagine a Brisbane Lions type midfield circa early 2000's.  Great lists win big and in my decades of support we've never had a 'great' list.

So Oliver playing as a distributor/sweeper across half back is dependant on the team being a great one.

Except that their incompetence, especially around Gawn, has been spoken about all over the footy internet. Hopefully they will atone for their sh1tful performance.

If not, it will be a premeditated AFL set up to propel North at the Demons' expense at this stage of the season.

From George’s Match on Demonland -

“UMPIRES Donlon, Gavine, Rebeschini”

The same trio. Had to favour the home team otherwise life in the hub would have been miserable for them. Still, they were good in the last quarter.

If not already mentioned, Lever is vice captain

Yes .. and I've also heard they are bringing in John Hopoate as a specialist coach - just to refine their technique.

Specialist quoits coach?

It may seem it doesn't matter to some, but in must win games like today it does. When I think of leadership and captains that set the example on field, Viney, Gawn and May have proven this from time to time.

When I look at Melksham I see a bloke who is a lazy two way runner who barely provides any ounce of tackling pressure. He's barely fired a shot this year. He kicked 2 of the biggest junk goals last week. When the heat was hot for 3 quarter he was missing as usual.

May was the perfect fit for me. This is Goody just looking after hos best mate once again.

Jake has laid 11 tackles and had 5 x 1%’s in 9 games this year, which is a bit I’ve 1 tackle per game and 1x1% every 2 games, exactly half his tackle and 1% average of last year. That shows his effort is down by half on last year. That deserves the reward of Captaincy for a day!

Same umps as last week God help us.

What a far-K-ennn joke. They should be sent to the bush.  They were completely biased and inconsistent.  They also saw Gawn being hit 60 metres off the ball and did nothing.

I’m still in shock. Our leadership “cohort” must be very thin.  I thought May would be the obvious choice. But again like the “Preuss non inclusion and tommy mcd and Spargo inclusions”, I’m completely out of sync with Goodys mind right now.

Don't you mean, Goody is out of sync with your mind.

I'm not confident what so ever, however we win today we go up to 9th. That's important.

I also hope Eddie, Derm and dwayne are not calling the match.

The Top Ten things I would like to see vs. the Roos.

1) Tomald to not interfere with our forward structure. Primary ruck role – follow Goldy around and stop him from marking/scoring. Cut off outlets. Nullify hit-outs to advantage. That is all.

2) Jack-weid to continue to develop in tandem. Throw in some Pickett at the feet and a whole lot of defensive forward pressure. Fritsch to capitalise on oppo attention on the above.

3) Recently posted about our first fixture vs. North in 2017 as an example of Salem on the angry pills. Christian needs some fire to play at his best. Please be today and forevermore.

4) The big one. Brayshaw to relish the opportunity in the middle in Viney’s absence exactly as occurred in 2018. Give the coaches something to think about in the coming weeks.

5) Melksham to look like he cares and try a bit (cut and paste from round 3 when I posted the exact same thing in my top ten things I would like to see list. It’s now eight weeks later).

6) A new Kysaiah dance move. Followed by a snap for his third goal and a celebration-sledge that somehow indicates MFC first-round pick 20 going to the Kangas next year.

7) We all know Harmes’ best role is as a tagger (personally I think his best role is just any in which he is given simple brainless instructions). Roos’ midfielder gets on top: send in James.

8) I would like to see Spargo demonstrate why he should continue to be on our list. Not writing him off just yet – but he’s the new Stretch. Not enough weapons to overcome physical deficiencies.

9) Of the other ins. Rivers doing what he does best on the burst off half-back and offensive kicking. Keep developing. Hannan to bring the tackle pressure again, enough to make up for the absence of AVB.

10) Lastly – team-wide intensity for as long as possible. I gave the four-day pass last time and others disagreed. Either way, we should have learned some lessons. Other teams are managing it.

36-point win the pass-mark. Go Dees.

Exactly and I thaught that is why they put Spargo in the side.

When do they announce the final teams and late changes?

Im sure it was all constructive and polite especially the advice where he can put his whistle.

Are you suggesting he should consult with Richmond deever ?

I reckon this is an ideal opportunity for Tom.  He won't win many taps but can win touches around the ground.  He has great stamina & can run off Goldie.

I thought he was improving when he got the poke in the eye and lets face it he was no worse than lots of others against Port.

Early on this year he was scratchy but he was having to play as the lone key fwd without Jackson or Weid so I am cutting him some slack but he really needs to perform today.

You can have all the stamina you like CF.  The 2020 format doesn't reward stamina that much unfortunately and much of the reward is from players hitting in and away from the contest with mobility and a bit of power/ speed on the burst.

Including closing speed to tackle and pressure.  Critical in this format also.

Hence why we saw Clarry & LJ have solid games last week.

The game is always unforgiving in reg format but this year the burst advantage has been magnified by about 20% meaning anyone who's a tad plonky is going to be exposed and taken advantage of much of the time (or at least the opp will attempt to do so with their match ups) on match day.  O-Mac another who is vulnerable in this manner,  depending on who he ends up on on the day.

That's gotta be worth an extra 2 goals to the Roos.

Deep breath.

Let's hope he puts in a chase tonight Gotta lead by example Jakey boy.

Any truth to the rumour that they spun a wheel and anyone called Jake got to be Capt or Vice Capt?

Damn, was really hoping Goodwin would wake up today and pick Preuss :(

If Scott was our coach, he would make a late change and bring in Preuss, they are the master's of the late change

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
