Another indicative mistake by the alleged experts within the AFL. A self-justifying idiom, at best, applied to '...those who do not matter...'  The irony is that the AFL are encouraging 'dangerous falls' for 'frees' within the mask of 'concussion'. The kid did his best to fall awkwardly after all, whilst ANB - who got him red-handed - clearly attempted to soften his bizarre theatrics. We hope the kid is OK but staging is getting more and more elaborate and its consequences are selectively applied.

Can you imagine a lesser Coach saying that, he would be fined immediately. He didn't even get a please explain letter.

Big clubs and stars in the AFL have always been favoured and that unfortunately is a corruption of the fairness of the competition.

No ifs or buts, the AFL is all about money and they see anything interfering with that as an impediment to be removed.

No reasonable person with any knowledge of the AFL, could argue that Selwood, Ablett, Martin, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Fyfe, Heppell, Mitchell etc would have got 4 weeks, or even have been sent to the Tribunal in the first place.

PS. I think all DL's would agree we fall into the lesser club category. Can anyone find a 4 week penalty for a sling tackle,  given to anyone other than Melbourne players Trengove and ANB? In ANB's case with the shortened season it is like a 6 week penalty. That is nearly as much as the Gaff/Brayshaw broken jaw, by punch, penalty.

PPS. Can anyone find a player penalized like Beamer Moloney was in 2005, for a few games, when he actually never made contact with the opposing star player Jimmy Bartel's head. Bartel thought he might and fell over avoiding him. Eddie would have exploded and ranted on air for days.

Melbourne Football Club will not appeal the two-match suspension given to in-form midfielder Brent Moloney.

Moloney received the penalty for rough conduct after he appeared to make contact with a former teammate Jimmy Bartel during last Friday night's match against Geelong.

Bartel hit his head on the ground as he stumbled. The Geelong midfielder was carried from the ground on a stretcher, suffering concussion.

Demons coach Neale Daniher voiced his disappointment with the tribunal's decision before his club's training session at the MCG this morning.

"They (the tribunal) termed it medium-contact (to Bartel) ... the evidence we put showed there was no contact to the head at all. It was just a slight brush to the shoulder," Daniher said.

"It's on public record that we thought that James (Bartel) sustained his injury when he hit his head on the ground, so from that point of view we were disappointed that the tribunal didn't see it our way."

I remember that Bartel incident. It was also a disgraceful decision by the Tribunal. It was obvious he was flopping for a free kick and knocked himself out. I think this incident is the reason why he has a hatred for our club also. If you listen to him commentate our games, he is nothing short of disrespectful. 
 

There was another Geelong player, Will Slade, who faked being hit by Yze and threw his head back and knocked himself out. Yze was initially not cited, yet the AFL launched an investigation and sent him to the tribunal. we do actually. trengove was the first and he got 4 weeks. in all that time since no-one got 4 weeks.......until anb

 

Not surprised he got weeks but 4 weeks is like 7 weeks this year and doubt he will be back with no match fitness. Just unfortunate to be the scapegoat on penalty. Be interesting to see what christian and afl tribunal  do for rest of season for future incidents

The ball bounced about 10 metres up in the air, the kid about 1 metre.

I was awarded the free kick and the kid was carried off.

I felt a slight feeling of remorse but small players are like cats( they always usually land on their feet).

Plenty of times times players got crunched on my team and it was play on.

Umpires these day have no control, the rules are jelly, and the game drifts away from them, complicated by the idiots at AFL house and the commentary "gods" such as  Dwayne and Dermott.

It's a contact sport and you can't reverse engineer or totally prevent injury .

Spot on.  The Cleary approach of standing down a journalist despite not promulgating internally the directive, meaning Cleary needed to be a Clairvoyant, was laughable.

Gill will go on the Front Bar and play up to Mick and Sam but underneath he has issues in management style and governance.

The holding the ball shambles is another case. 

These are necessarily smart guys - just able to talk the talk. Steve Hocking is a classic case.

I'm not an expert in the law (although worked in the industry for years), but i would have thought there are grounds to challenge the AFL in the courts over this.

If anyone bothered to listen to what Garry said, he as the host of the post game coverage, asked the question to Brown would that result have happened if it was Dangerfield. Brown said plainly - No. then they briefly discussed it saying maybe 2 weeks would have been more appropriate. 
So Garry has been helping us and raising the hypocrisy, even though it would put his career in the Media in jeopardy

That was when the teams reputation was mud and Trengove was an up and comer but not quite there yet. Melbourne were a handy club to make an example of and still are. Irrespective of a crackdown or not, a fringe player in a lower club like Nibbler was always going to suffer the full wrath of the tribunal for being what he is and who we are.

on that we are in agreement

we are yet to see what (if any) penalties the afl will give for a sling tackle that doesn't result (luckily) in injury, loss of play time or concussion. if they (genuinely) want to stamp out sling tackles then they need to go hard on ALL sling tackles regardless of outcome

i won't be holding my breath    (it will just be a replay of the "head is sacrosanct" farce)

Saw in the club website article about Nibbler that three other Dees players were fined for rough conduct, including Harley. Can’t find the MRP report on the AFL website (surprise, surprise). Anyone know the details?

It happens in all sports have a look at horse racing, a leading jockey shirt fronts a couple if horses which caused a fall with 1 horse dead and a jockey with a lot of broken bones.  A lesser credentialed jockey gets 3 months, this bloke gets 4 weeks.

Double standards everywhere, this was a 2 week action, the only difference to this tackle and others is the concussion

It's neck and neck between horse racing and boxing for "the most" corrupt sport. AFL mounting a strong challenge.
