Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jackson is very Nik Nat in his influence. Doesn't get it a lot, but when he does it's flashy and relevant. I think Jackson's more of a natural footballer than Nik Nat. His game sense and body positioning for an 18 year old playing key forward is very impressive.

He jumps not only to win the hit out but position his body to plant his feet on the landing and accelerate in a any direction. I've never seen any ruckman do that. I'm curious though, will he growth spurt and have some of that mobility curbed? From 200cm to 208 for eg would either turn him into a football beast.. or a preuss

At 200cm he might never be the full minutes no 1 ruck, but basically the best part time ruck/midfielder/kpf/KPD utility in the game at his peak, you'd hope.

I'd prefer him playing forward and midfield with bursts in the ruck, but it really depends on how he develops.

I'd say at 18 there's a chance he could still grow a little more, but even if he's done, he's got a great leap.

ANB straight to tribunal , Bennell, Sparrow and Lockhart a little lighter in the pocket with fines offered.

Jeez seems harsh on Nibbler, I’d give it two weeks and move on. I felt the sling was to try to get the ball out of the crows players possession rather than it being a malicious act.

Watch him get 4 weeks after Burgoyne got nothing.

Thought ANB was a little unlucky here, it was basically a jumper tackle, he didn't pin the arms and then drive him to the ground in two actions., It was the Crows players momentum which created the sling affect. Perhaps he needed to release the arm he was holding.

Watching the replay the ump called high tackle when it was nowhere near high. He then changed the call to dangerous tackle after the crow was on the ground.

The same [censored] that was calling most of the high frees against melb

Exactly.

I'd have so much more respect for the analysis of guys like Kingy and Garry Lyon if the had actually coached and in the modern era.

Do like the commentary of guys like Roos, Parkin and to some extent I didn't even mind Mick Malthouse from this perspective.

Malthouse is good, can see how a game is going, and if certain  trends continue that's how a team is going to win, example, after QTR time between lions and Richmond, he pointed out how the tigers were getting the ball out of stoppages with quick running handball, and that if the lions could not stop that, then Richmond would be 4 or 5 goals up in the second QTR very quickly, and that's what happened in the first 10 minutes in the second.

Does anyone know what Bennell and Sparrow got their fines for?

Lockhart's must have been the jumper punch.

Walker got a fine for striking Gawn (good riddance) and Murphy got a week for rough conduct on Viney, what was that?

Other than umpiring I have not seen much analysis of why we could not better a winless team with multiple outs for the first three quarters.

Was it Adelaide going for a win in that last quarter that gave us just that little bit of time and space.

The last quarter blitz papered over some concerns I suspect. IIRC at 3/4 time inside 50's were close so it wasn't the usual ping pong problem.

Clean sweep of the Coaches votes:

  • 10 Oliver
  • 7   Viney
  • 6   May
  • 3   Petracca
  • 2   Weideman
  • 2   Salem

No surprises.  Rapt for Sam for the recognition.  It was a mature game.

Petracca 2nd on the Leader Board with a game in hand.  They may as well give the Brownlow to Neale now.  But in terms of other podium finishes we are at the stage where our players will start taking votes from each other.

My guess on vote split:

  • 5/5 Oliver
  • 4/3 Vine
  • 4/2 May
  • 3     Petracca
  • 2 or 1/1  Weideman/Salem

Salem's votes might surprise some who were quite critical of his game.

Agree Pates, seems harsh on ANB, Burgoyne has avoided suspension twice this year if I’m not mistaken.

Viney did get a shoulder to the chin, can’t remember in which quarter though. Could that be the incident?

Jack Viney has moved into 10th place on the leaderboard.  Tracca 2nd.

Excellent stuff from the fellas with a game in hand.

Does anyone know what happened to the guy that Lockhart went at?

He charged at him when Lockhart was limping. A bit similar to Carlisles aggression, hitting the injured hand of opponent.

I have watched that replay back a few times, did anyone else think that the ‘high tackle’ call was actually going to be paid to Jones, who had disposed of the football and was then taken high?

There was no high contact from Neale Bullen. I think a non officiating umpire had called a high tackle in favour of Jones and then the sling tackle happened and the controlling umpire overrode the call.

Interested to know if others read it that way.

I reckon he held the hand of the Crow and then the jumper. The combination of both, meant that it was a clear sling tackle IMV. But I don't think it was intentional, but he should cop a week for it, as Burgoyne should have.

My one word analysis of the game - ENCOURAGING

ENCOURAGING that the forward structure is looking better

ENCOURAGING signs that Brayshaw is finding some form

ENCOURAGING signs that the defence is working together as a team within a team

ENCOURAGING to see Oliver working to take his game to a new level

ENCOURAGING to see the coach looking to get some support for Max

ENCOURAGING to us us perform well with Max being ,an aged on the ground

BUT........

Still a long way to go.....

Sparrow took 2 strong marks and has a bit of toe - augurs well for a half back role.

I really love how Lockhart's settled into this role, so maybe in time, Sparrow could play there too, along with the likes of Jordon too.

Two main points in game style change that made huge difference in my opinion ; with room to improve  :

1 - Breaking out from the packs and DELIVERING  effective KICKS - Less blind kicks to opposition. Top work Clarry, good deliveries from Viney, Brayshaw & Petracca. ( Improvement : There were still a lot of bad deliveries resulting in turn overs.....a repeating theme. )

2 - Low , hard and fast deliveries to leading players. ( ie _ best kick all night Petracca to Fritsch. ) These deliveries have been missing this season and this game showed that we can do it. Still a way to go. The only way to improve from here is to cement in some regulars up forward. There is no better forward style than a hard push offs, fast pace leads and accurate deliveries.

Im a fanboy for Lockhart but I think his position will be tenable this week..... he didnt have a great game and was sore afterwards. Rivers to break the lines maybe?

Hopefully Lockhart can cement that back pocket type role as I think Jetta is sadly toast

Humans are a strange lot, in this  game We wore the clash jumper.
not very long ago there would have been a whole tread complaint about the need for it.

2020 and not a word so obviously it is all ok now.

Thank God!

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
