With a four day break and a few passengers today, there are a few options on the table here.

Jetta was really poor and I wouldn't be upset to see Rivers return.

Each of Jones, Brayshaw and Bennell struggled IMO. But is there anyone outside the 22 who is an improvement? Does TMac get one of their spots? Are we going to see players like Smith or Hunt or ANB coming in to bring some extra run after the short break?

Perhaps a rotation of minutes rather than players. Not sure what is happening with Harmes. Jetta looks in trouble.

Need to stop kick outs to Max. At least bring in Mc Donald as another tall option!

Last Chance Saloon

It's where you bring your best guns.

Not sure we can put out a much better side.

I suspect we will have plenty of time to experiment for the rest of the season.

worth a thought if the weather suits.

Out Brayshaw, Jetta, Harmes

In Rivers, Tmac, Tomlinson

Jones got better as the game went on

No one is dropping Harmes, even if he did have a poor game.

If Harmes isn't holding on to a jumpers and giving away a free, he's then trying to break tackles and gets pinged for it.

Dead set so predictable.

Jones was OK, not the worst. Equal most I50's, which is what you need from a wing.

Amongst the rest, time for Tom Sparrow?

Jones gets another week.  I still think the game is passing him by but he did okay.

I think Jetta needs a spell.  Give Rivers another crack.

I'd also not be against Gus getting dropped for Tomlinson.

Also, I hope they stick with Jackson and Weideman.  Outside of the dodgy kicking for goal from Weid, both are doing a good job right now.  They deserve to keep their spots.

That would be my out.

Bring in Tomlinson and perhaps Rivers.

The head is a bit big at the moment 'dazz' & there's no reason for it...

Needs to get back to basics or take a break.

I think we need to rest our younger ducks and get the older ducks in for Thursday nights game.

OUT: Jones, Jetta, O. Mac
IN: Tomlinson, Rivers, T. Mac (def)

I wouldn’t be so sure about that.
Goodwin gave him a special gee up at 3 qtr time but he didn’t respond at all.

Harmes is having an ordinary season and there wouldn’t be one game this year where he’s been in our best 6-8.

Like Brayshaw, he’s probably struggling with a clearly defined position on the ground.

Possibly (he was pretty good last week IIRC), but he's barely been in our bottom 6-8 like, unfortunately, Jetta and Brayshaw were today.

Agree 100%

Is it time for Pickett to have a rest?

If you're talking about the 'fence' variety, then yes, he needs a rest.

I don't think we adapted to the wet (they did get 160mm of rain an hour before the game). I doubt Goody will make too many changes. I was pleased for Jones on the wing he did his job. Sadly the game has passed Nev by, at the moment and he will be rested. I would like to see T Mac back and would replace Fritsch who just isn't doing enough. If he doesn't mark it he does nothing on the ground and is out of form IMO. I also wonder if Bennell will be rested on a 5 day break.

Out Jetta Fritch

IN T Mac definite Smith or Neal Bullen  (latter 2 were emergencies for this game so they must be close)

Depends on the weather. If it’s another wet slippery pitch I  would not play Kosi or Pickett. dont misunderstand me I think both are future stars but in these conditions Tom McD and ANB would have been better

TMac back to provide a mobile big man around the ground to take some predictability off Max (who is doing a great job)

Jackson was great in first half, but I think a young player would find it hard to back up after a 4 day break. Having said that , just like we have a million inside mids we seem to have a lot of medium fwds in Hannan, Melsham and Fritsch. SO maybe one of them may be rested.

Unfortunately I feel Nev Jetta is struggling with pace of the game at the moment, Lockart was good tonight so maybe Rivers gets another go.

Surely Gus has run out of lives. Almost anyone would be an upgrade atm. Wouldn’t mind seeing Sparrow get a go

Sparrow is good. Tough quick and competitive. He shouldve been in tonight

Both give us something we don't have.

That first Pickett dangerous tackle free was a joke...the 2nd one maybe but...

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
