Well, to be the pedant that I am, he still hasn't polled a vote in 2 years - unless of course Brownlow voting isn't actually secret.

Two years by the calendar, less than one by the number of rounds played.

But taking the point, Petracca may have just played two games in a row that were better (more complete, at least) than any of his from last season.

Meanwhile, here's a first 'curious stats' post for the season

Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca stats comparison.  It's actually a bit uncanny how many of their stats are similar or even identical.

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&playerStatus2=A&tid2=12&type=A&pid1=4041&pid2=4166&fid1=S&fid2=S

Also, our Clayton is definitely kicking it a bit more this season.  Might be a little under the radar with Petracca getting all the attention, but he could be in for a mighty season.

To be honest I don't even think Trac is thinking one thought at the moment about Brownlow votes.

And we as Melb supporters would also be wise to be completely indifferent to them also.

Lets not put any undue pressure on him or Clarry to get votes or get into any public race for that prize. Leave them to have a private joke etc.

Its far more important that we take full and uncomplicated aim at our 13 th flag than celebrate one of them as our seventh /eighth Umpires darling.

Yes I want the green whistleblowers  to award votes  to whoever earns them Fairly and if one wins then let's celebrate and recognise the achievement.

What I do know Though is that there is every chance that Trac may inadvertently increase Clarry's chances if he keeps his elite inside close pickups and handballs to the nearest moving teammate to propel the ball forward or out of danger.

His execution of this was breathtaking ( like Dusty can be) vs Carlton and will only ensure Clarry will want to raise his already high standards so that Viney Harmes Harley and Others plus youngsters like Sparrow and Jordan can get in the open to execute high class entries to our forwards.

Its also placing heavy reliance upon Maxy to Palm The ball with great variety to enable us to gain maximum value out of his advantage.

Then all players will be in the Brownlow vote winning queue and we will have developed an even better midfield both inside and out to worry the hell out of the other 17 Clubs in 2020.

Who knows what the result will be but I believe it's absolutely the most crucial part of our game plan to put pressure on the opposition.

The first quarter and half was a fabulous cameo of how to do it but for a longer period!

The more games we win the more Brownlow votes Petracca will receive such will be his influence. Just wants to rip  games apart..

Has so much power that he can rip the ball out of the oppositions hands. Reminds me of the way Dusty plays but with a bit more polish.

Hoping that he can finally go on with it and turn into our match winner. We need something of his type to ignite us this season and beyond.

I get what you're saying, but Petracca is currently nowhere near the level of Dusty, who is about as polished as polished gets (unless you're talking about looks). That said, Dusty didn't really stamp himself as a top player until 2017, so Trac definitely has time and the capability to reach a similar level.

I don't think many would argue that the 3 most damaging midfielders of recent times are Dusty, Fyfe and Dangerfield. Trac has similarities with all 3 - ridiculously powerful, strong overhead and kicks goals. He fits the prototype perfectly - he's a long way from those 3 currently, but if he maintains the current trajectory, he'll be in brownlow conversations soon enough.

Petracca hasn't quite  got the credentials as the other 3 you mentioned however he certainly  has the ability to match them no doubt.

I was just pointing out that he reminds me of a Dusty type that can virtually turn into a match winner. The kind of players that can help win a Premiership. Let alone a brownlow.

I’m on him at $501 ?

Friggin saw that back in Feb.

Told my mates but didn't do anything about it myself.Spewing.After following all the training reports I knew he would be in for a good year but I guess the Mfcss got me.

Then that early practice game came along and he ripped it a big one and the odds dropped.

Don't discount the correlation with the ability to stand out and/or attract the affection of umpires and getting brownlow votes.  Just refer to Max Gawn (was it 2018?) that year he took out just about every players, coaches and media award and yet failed to bring home the Brownlow.

Coincidentally, the same year that a helmeted Angus Brayshaw came from absolutely nowhere to finish third!

Was on in Feb at $101, after the preseason game.  Noticed he’s in to $13 now.

How many votes is Max going to take off him?  For me these two are the standouts, and can’t see too many others pinching the votes.

Fingers crossed we can keep winning!!!

Yeah and that will matter today, does Gawn or Trac get the three.
Neale doesn’t have them taking as much unless the umps are willing to give Harris Andrew votes.

Gawn was dominant but surely Trac has to get the 3 votes this week. Traditionally I don’t think Max polls massively in the Brownlow.

Gawn will poll votes but not many others will takes 2 or 3s.
Trac is eye catching. He kicks goals and dominates the middle.

20 votes in 2018 and 17 last season ( in a side that won 5 games and he missed one of those).  Gawn polls well and has been outstanding this season too.  Before this round was 3rd in the Age Player of the year and had polled votes in three of 5 games in the Herald Sun.  Before this round Tracc is on 20 in the AFLCA award, Gawn on 17.  They were clearly the two outstanding players on the ground today so should poll an 8 and a 10 or two 9's. And both still have a game in hand over all but Essendon. I doubt either will win the Brownlow but I'd be staggered if they both don't poll well.

Shane Crawford just came out and said that he believes Petracca is currently the best player in the league.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
