I know this could be a pretty messy season, but gee I'd love to be round 1 winners for once and then get off to a flyer, even if just to build belief and an expectation within to group that we are capable of it for future seasons.

Go the mighty Demons.

I would love to see more GWS and less Suns in our game...

good luck Dees. I hope the preseason shows out in high pressure, high quality footy.  Weagles are a tough first up opponent.

Hope we win but realistically it’s probably going to be a 30+ loss.

Mmmm, i thought that, then I realised I was referring to form from the 2019 season. A whole range of things have drastically changed. I'm optimistic.

I'm quietly confident based on our pre season form, and the very  little I saw of an under-manned WCE over summer.  Quiet confidence will no doubt morphe into loud supporting during the match, and I hope to have good reason to keep the volume on high post siren.

6:40 is such a late start. Still can’t believe the AFL scheduled the game for this time considering what we all know about Perth’s weather this time of the year. 3:40pm Perth time? Sun will be absolutely peaking!

But we’ll still get up, so...

??

Based on a few games I have partially seen , a good start is essential, either kickaway or stop the opposition.
the short quarters just make up catch up near impossible. at least no 4 crowd free leading to goals
A win would mean foxtel playing this game all year in the best of 2020 if we dont get to rnd 2 :)

Checking in from . . . Darwin!

Was excited that for the first time in years I haven't had to make complicated calculations about when to set my alarm to catch the match. Then realised that it's being played in Perth while I'm in the Territory in what remains of the various Australian daylight-savings periods.

Wasn't previously a fan - but thanks for setting up the game-day countdown clock Demonland!

Yes a hard start most important  slow like the dogs,  goodnight irene !    After watching Tigers and GWS  not so confident anymore, but anything is possible.  No support in the stands gives us an even break.

I thought Gameday would not get here,   GO DEES !!

funny time though !

I'm Perth born and raised and been going for this club for 22 years now.

Every time this game comes round I pray to God we beat the Eagles.

I think we will go down but anything more than 3 goals will be concerning.

Looking at Brown + Viney to have big ones.

Definitely need to be up and about early, several teams have been jumped already.

Got a couple of bone on 2 inch thick ribeyes to smoke and a bottle a Bobbie burns. Gonna be a nice arvo. Time to sack up let's get a win

Really looking fwd to today’s game, Kayo is up and running....

I’m excited at the prospect of Kozzie and Bedford running around, hope they play together for many years to come. Our forward line has the ability to be very dangerous with a good mix of players.

All eyes on Petracca, quality opposition away from home and in form, we need him to dominate.

If Salem was playing would Hibberd miss altogether?

This is probably our only trip to Perth this year. Make it count boys.

That’s true. Let’s hope pre-season form carries on into the season proper. The only thing better than beating the eagles, is betting them with a stadium full of eagles supporters.

Forget the tv rights (that the AFL, 7, Foxtel & Kayo are doing nicely from), surely the AFL if it was genuine about helping Clubs and fans, could allow the MFC to live stream to members (who will receive little benefit otherwise this year)? ?

32c and little breeze. The ground here gets hot anyway but with reduced quarters and normal interchange cap we shouldn’t be under any great duress.

I think today we just need to be the more physical side.
I tip that Kennedy won’t make it through the game if May punished him every time the footy comes in.

My only glimmer of hope is that the weagles generally don’t start the season well.

I REALLY hope that trend continues.

I think you can sign up for a 14 day Kayo trial or $10 for 2 weeks. Quite reasonable really..

Yeah i hear you, McQueen... just looked like a strange decision for a day game in Perth for Rnd1. Anyway, feeling good about today regardless.

3 months for free.  Just connected now and picture quality is great, depending on TV of course

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
