Pies very good, Dogs no so good.

Tiges arrogant and lairised, Carlton average & let off the hook.

The Pies have a strong side.  The only real weakness, apart from them only having the second-best ruck in the league, is their lack of a real tall forward.  Not that we have on either, but if you had to pick a weakness I'd be looking there.  Great medium/small forwards, but Cox isn't the answer for the FF spot.

doesn't need to be; just needs to be 6 foot 11 and kick straight!

they've still got treloar and stephenson to come back in, and unfortunately for them their langdon looks like injury might curtail his career

pendlebury has been such a brilliant player for so long now

hard not to see them in the top four along with tiggas, meth coke, and gw$ - that sort of win against a potential finals team gives them a juicy percentage boost to start the season too

Here is a idea why don't the broadcasters use CGI and make a crowd for the tv audience

What a complete joke. There is still tackling and body contact in this sport ( although no where hard enough for what we have been used to ) but when they kick a goal they elbow tap one another and after the game they lightly tapped one another with fists. Am I seeing things here ? What an absolute f#^%@$g joke. Monty pythom could not have scripted anything like this.

Is this really going on? I haven’t seen anything from the two games so far. I’m guessing players have their own personalised water bottles out on the field as not to share.

It never ceases to amaze me that the Dogs lost their elim final last year to GWS by 58 points - just 8 points less than our loss to WC in the prelim.

Dogs didn’t get a whisper from the media about their pathetic effort. Meanwhile the media labelled out performance a crime against humanity.

Dogs are overrated.

Dogs were just awful.  Bontempelli completely taken out of the game by Adams.  Johannisen  unsighted all night.  Macrea not much better.    If Wood and Keath weren't there to hold the defense together, it would have been even worse as a result.

Bruce is overweight, and why they recruited him with Naughton, Lloyd and Schache there already is hard to understand.

They could splice in crowd scenes from the chariot race in Ben Hur.

Wagner or Gilbert and Sullivan

5 stack on random, at moment Eric Clapton, Don Mclean, Etta James, Roy Orbison, Frank Sinatra.

Best way to beat the dogs?

Put in a extensive amount of physical pressure on Bont and watch him go to water. His prelim last year was the same.

Bont is a good player, but until he deals with this, in no way should he be in the same discussion as Martin, Fyfe, Dangerfields of the game.

Jacob Townsend anyone?

Was screaming for his recruitment and Essendon have landed a beauty for absolutely nothing.

Has everything you need in a Forward, can take a mark, kicks truely, applies tackling pressure.

Currently tearing Fremantle a new hole as we speak.

Can't believe people were so quick to dismiss him. #Insane

very similar in size and shape to fritsch, melksham tho?

he's had a very good first tho for sure

Can someone explain to me why Brendan Gale, Peggy O’Neill, and Eddie McGuire were not in attendance at their respective games but Alistair Clarkson was at today’s  game because he’s playing Freo next week.

Thats what you call taking the urine Clarko.

What purpose does a President have being there? Eddie gave his ticket away regardless.

Clarkson has a purpose so I don't see what the issue is here.

Hope our forwards are watching the frees being given in front of goals not to mention that if you are a forward you can throw the backman out of the way and not give a free.

Two or three that went the Bombers way decided this game

Can not get over how bad the AFL website .  Just wow.  The Match Centre is so bad

And to think of all the extra traffic they will be getting to see that mess.

I thought Clarkson being there was crap on the optics and didn’t need to be there given the current climate.

But  we’ll agree to disagree.

It seems Adelaide’s magnificent ex leader missed an opportunity to snatch the game in the dying moments. ??

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
