Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The idea that AFL players and support staff live in an isolated bubble is absurd.

I know for a fact that some players were out and about socialising and taking selfies with non football people on the weekend of the first games.

Then we have the idiots at North and Geelong who thought it was a great idea to have parties.

This is not a smart idea, Shepherd is right to be sceptical.

Reports that AFL and Channel 7 are in talks to extend the present media deal until 2024 at a slightly reduced fee.

As Foxtel pays more than half the annual fee it could be interesting.

At least the AFL are getting better press than the NRL who are looking almost rugby unionesque in their ineptitude.

I’m not not missing the AFL because of our disgusting round one performance.

I certainly hope the hopeless coach is reviewing round 1 with every player with respect to the lack of spread inside the fifty, bombing it long without looking for a clear target, and two way running, manning up in defense all the way back from our end to theirs. It looks like we need a monster inside fifty who can split packs and kick goals. That’s if we stick with this same game plan as last year. Or a new coach....

Recent declines in coronavirus infection rates have sparked growing optimism that AFL footy could return with a 17-game season as early as July.

While the AFL hasn’t locked into a resumption date — unlike the NRL, which has earmarked May 28 — Australia’s world-leading flattening of the infection curve has created a belief in government and among clubs that the game could be on the way back.

Informal talks have been held between the AFL and the government about a resumption, which would depend on COVID-19 infection rates continuing to fall.

The NRL have shown themselves to be an absolute disgrace in their push to start early.

Let's hope the AFL don't keep pushing down this line.

There should be no favours given to elite sport.

FOX are desperate to get sport back on and Rupert more often than not gets what he wants.

Let's hope the government stand their ground and our sporting leaders don't out themselves above the rest.

I suspect that the resolution for the NRL will be the CEO losing his job. It is  clear that he has alienated Government and his media backers. Hard to see him continuing in his job.

This is one time when sports need to follow rather than lead.

I am not getting my hopes up about the season. Although Victoria is tracking well and things locally could start up soonish, interstate flights too soon would be a bad move. unless we kick the 2 sydney teams out of the comp which I fully support  ?

Hasn't WA shut their borders? I think it's pie in the sky stuff, I will be shocked if there is a 2020 season.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/victorian-premier-daniel-andrews-feels-afl-still-some-time-off-resuming-20200412-p54j5u.html

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has quashed any talk of the AFL following the lead of the NRL and restarting its competition any time soon.

Andrews announced on Sunday the state of emergency in Victoria will be extended until at least May 11, meaning strict enforcement of social distancing and isolation measures remain in place to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Despite the Covid-19 situation and its attendant angst, I find myself feeling less stressed than how I would normally be when following the mighty Demons each week.  That could be a reflection on myself,  the team, or possibly both.

I"m probably very much in the minority on this forum, but I wouldn't mind terribly if there's no footy this year.

i'm tending to thinking the same.  any games this year will seem unnatural, unsatisfactory and uninteresting, and more to do with money than football.  i'd rather watch classic replays.

I'm still undecided but while there are over half a million cases in the USA with over one thousand deaths every day it's way too early to think about something as peripheral as a contrived football season.

Let's have a look in a month and then think about it. To have games when it is illegal for two children to kick a ball in the park is not  the right message.

Like many I cannot help but think that the willingness of sports to restart is motivated by money rater than any altrustic desire to provide entertainment in these difficult times.

I totally agree, but only because of what we saw round one, before that I was excited for footy.

Agree Clint.

If we had gone West and won easily, many Dees supporters would be frothing at the mouth for an early return. The fact we saw essentially the same rubbish as last season has dampened enthusiasm for many IMO.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
