Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I must admit this thought has crossed my mind.

No one will ever accept that premiership as a real premiership. It will always be seen as a glorified preseason comp win.

It will forever be known as the Asterix Premiership.

or.....the trc premiership

......tr crisis.....

Zero chance of the AFL season starting this week which is such a pity!

everything is cancelled apart from work and parenting.  this year sucks!!

That is only opinion like 150,000 odd others but at the glass no water end!

It may well be but Round  1 might be ok although if Pendlebury comes down with it Eddie will sacrifice heaven and earth plus more to endure no footy gies ahead!

As soon as a player from Team A has to be quarantined because a family member or someone they have had contact with comes down with COVID-19 then the entire Team A will need to be quarantined and then you are one team down.

Add to that the situation where said player from Team A just played Team B then Team B needs to be quarantined.

It's only a matter of time before this scenario happens and if it happens to Team C and Team J as well then the season is curtains anyway.

IMHO the season will be canned today.

Don't think a whole season will be written off yet but if this happens a review date will be mentioned for reconsideration depending upon state if the Beira, country and health most importantly at the time.

Similsr to rain delays At  cricket and wicket inspections.

Many younger or mid-tier players desperate for the season to go ahead as they are on match payments, incentives plus base. Have mortgages, school fees. Could make $200K difference. On top or pay cuts to come. AFLPA delegates hookup at 1pm. The details ?

I think the original plans were to try and squeeze 2-3 games in before everything hit hard, suspending the season. That way they had the option of pushing back a few weeks (removing the byes and pushing back the GF could gain a month) or even resuming the season with a new fixture (ie reduced rounds,- everyone plays everyone once - or compressed - 6 day breaks and mid week games).

But if they bail now it could be disastrous.

I thought I read somewhere last week that the AFL are prepared to dip into an emergency fund to prop up clubs and pay players where required?

Haven't heard anything from the broadcast rights holders. Not sure they would thrill to compressed seasons etc and would certainly have their hand out for a discount as would sponsors etc etc.

Personally I'd move the whole league to say Alice Springs and play in a virtual bubble for the next six weeks. There's a nice big and very secure defence facility just outside Alice that would welcome them all.

Thought the way they ditched the AFL "to cut costs" (Eddie's words) was a little cruel.

The minimum wage is 110k this year.

If you're 19-21 I think you can survive pretty well on 110k a year.

If you're 22-24 that means apart from a limited number of mature age draftees you've already had 2 years of around 100k and another 2 years of more (probably 150+ pa) under your belt. If you're manager and financial adviser have overextended your debt buying too much property based on match payments then get better advice.

Some AFL players have kids pretty early, but are they really forking out big bucks for private primary school fees? If so, that means they've had at least 5 years of AFL wages. The guys who have school aged kids on the Melbourne list are Nath Jones, Jetta and who else? They might have match payments and performance bonuses in their contracts given their age but they have been on a list for over a decade.

I'm sorry but the only players who I can imagine are truly 'desperate' for the match payments are those who have made poor financial decisions and in particular those who have gambling problems.

While I feel for the players, spare a thought to those of us running small businesses with employees and small children to look after. The stress is real.

A 20 year old making $100k a season is not going to go hungry.

That is not such crazy idea actually. Play one game a day on the beautiful surface of Traeger park. And train and live in a sealed (or as close to it as possible) environment. If not an army base take over a hotel (who will be desperate for business). before going in all staff, players etc tested and anyone positive can't come.  Players bused to the ground and back. No families or partners

Could probably have two such facilities, perhaps one n country Victoria or South Australia

Games go on. TV rights are paid. Players get paid (which they won't if there are no games). Money into Alice Springs (or wherever)

I think the VFL should consider a shortened season starting in September and finishing in December/January. There are plenty who are just football Tradjics (dont follow other sports)  who would definitely support this. Especially those who have nothing going on in September. It would also allow for a late draft to occur. It would also allow possibly a team from both Darwin and Tassie.

Does the emergency fund still exist if they have to pay back the broadcasters for not showing games?

(And do they have to pay them back? Surely if they're not providing the product as agreed...)

If senior players don't want to play then get the ringers in. Jay Lockhart for the Brownlow.

While I like the idea, it does assume that players have no life outside footy.  Would they all want to be away for 6 months from their small babies and toddlers and partners.  (hmm, don't answer that)

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
