Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Robbie Flower: 20 Great Goals

The goal at 1:49 against Hawthorn.
That was late in the last qr infront of me and he got a closeline shepard that should have been a free to Dawks.
Exciting game as a Melbourne supporter at the time as we were on the bottom as usual and the Hawks were on top and only lost by a kick.
Also read in Flowers book that the song was sung in the rooms by the players after the game despite the loss such was their excitement for pushing the dawks so close.
Which he found disappointing.

As good as it is on the replay, it was even better live. He found time and space where there was none and made otherwise very good players look foolish. Robbie was a cut above the league in his day. It always used to irritate me that Keith Greig got so much more recognition... because he played finals. Robbie was def  a once in a generation player

Any idea what year that was? Early 80's I'm guessing?

That's a little cringe worthy that they sang the song after a loss.

The word 'star' is bandied around too loosely today. (I'm looking at you, reality show participants).

This is what a true shining star is. What a champion. What a great man.

Imagine if he was playing in today's game. People would have to invent new words to describe his skills and greatness. Even superstar is not good enough.

P.S. Loved the vision of Jimmy in his number 37 jumper hugging Robbie after a goal. Miss them both.

Tulip was the reason I fell in love with footy. Going to the G or Waverly as a young fella with my Dad and seeing him tear it up will forever be some of my favourite Demon memories. Wasnt the biggest, wasnt the fastest - but he made them all big or small look second rate at times.

Brilliant player.

I always loved it when Tulip played for the Big V and i was watching the game with mates or at work

I would just tell them to watch the great man, there was none better  he never let me down  always played a blinder

Everyone was in awe of Flower when he played for the Big V because they watched him the same way we did every week

Never a more fair player either

The fact he has not one Brownlow to his name is an utter disgrace

RIP Robbie  thanks for the dinner we had before Marnbrook went to air

Great highlights, but missed one of his absolute best against Richmond where he tapped the ball over an opponent's head in the middle of the ground, regained control and ended up goaling from 50.

He once ran the ball from the back pocket at Windy Hill ending up kicking a goal.

The most skillful player I have ever seen.

Spot on - Greig, Hawkins etc. were routinely bested by Robbie.

The only opponent who genuinely 'stopped' him was that talentless oaf, Dipierdomenico, who managed to shatter Robbie's shoulder in the fateful 1987 Preliminary Final.

One of football's cruellest of ironies that 'Dipper' collected a Brownlow + multiple Premierships whilst Robbie's cupboard was bare

some great early football memories for me there. one of the reasons this WA boy ended up a Demons supporter. he was one of the best balanced players I ever saw. a lot of games back then were played on grounds with poor drainage and were quite heavy underfoot at times, but it didn't matter to him, he was so balanced and light on his feet he could stop and prop, and twist and turn like he was playing on a different surface to everyone else. what a champion.

Was that the game when Matthews knocked out Peter Giles and received nothing for it?  Disgraceful act it was too.  If it is that game, we were coming hard at them and Matthew's action stopped our momentum.

If Robbie was in our team of 2020 he would inspire us to greater heights. Without a doubt we would  be Premiers.

Such a great player and person an inspiration and was much loved by the us  fans.

Flower in this day and age would be an absolute weapon.
Imagine a lightning quick hard running wingman with elite skills who played tall and impacted the scoreboard regularly.

He'd be writing his own ticket.

No it wasn't.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
