AFLM?

AFLM?ย  Never going to happen, but to be appropriate, they should call themselves FLIM-FLAM.

ย

...... and so they should backpedal!

Love it. If for no other reason than to the response from men 'triggered' by the thought of it being AFLM.

I need a safe space. MCG will do.

seconded

This is (as usual) a combination of the AFL media's favourite things:

1. Fake News: stretching quotes from other sources to suit a narrative.

2. Steve Hocking or some other senior AFL figure unwilling to commit to decisions that people may see as unpopular.

In proper context:

Hocking is being interviewed by a dedicated AFLW podcast team who are pushing their agenda, with a really inappropriate question by the way. Livingstone dodges it. Hocking attempts to answer it diplomatically, but clearly without an intention to change the name of the AFL.

3 days later with nothing else to write about the Age and HS make it in to a story.

they never were upset, it was the people-perpetually-aggrieved-by- proxy who were upset. The black swan better look out.

Is that the MCGM or MCGW????

Or could it be the MCG or WCG?

With all the things wrong at AFL level and he comes up with his!

Words fail me.

Actually, I think there's nuance to this issue that needs considering. Isย AFL (1) the name of the organisation which has Gil as its CEO and that runs all football, including men's, women's and children's competitions? (2) the type of football played which used to be known as Australian Rules Football? (3) The competition played by men?

Given the correct answer is "all of the above", I think there is a problem about what 'AFL' means. Personally, I'd be happy with the administrative body being called 'AFL', the game being called 'Australian Rules Football' and the men's competition being AFLM, just as the women's is AFLW.

Really? Such a first world problem the AFL (or AFLW) considers itย needs to spend time and resources on?

If the AFL must expend time, money or effort how about seriously funding regional football or junior football. Not just for the elite, but for the betterment of the sport and its grass roots.

AFLGBTQI ?ย

if we have another season like last year, for me it will closely resemble AFLIDGAF.

Political correctness gone completely bananas!!ย

Reminds me of the the term becoming common in cricket.ย  Once upon a timeย  (back in the day, before the world went stark raving mad!) the man who batted was called a "Batsman", and the stuff you stick on fish was "batter".ย  Not any more!!ย  GRRRR!!!!

Also, while I'm in this tantrum, I also object to people referring to the sport as "AFL".ย  "Little Johnny, aged 9, is playing AFL."ย  NO!!ย  Little Johhny is playing Aussie Rules and, one day, he may aspire to being able to play in the AFL...!!

SorrY!ย  Rant over!

Iโ€™m all for the womenโ€™s Comp getting bigger and better but the renaming of the menโ€™s AFL is completely ludicrousย

Ludicrous and political correctness seem to go hand in hand.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
