Afl announce a 70mill train base for the TAS team!

Makes the blood boil how our club gets treated

A succession of our boards' have been useless. If we had found a viable site we would have been funded like everyone else i'm sure.

The other clubs are Community clubs, and attract interest and funding from Government

Geelong, Bulldogs Tassie, Tigers etc represent local communities.

The exact direction that Peter Jackson was steering us toward.

MFC at Caulfield racetrack is a huge blunder, a devastating decision, made out of desperation to stand for something, stand for anything.

It's always easy to pick holes in a decision but where would you suggest we build?

The Tiges and C/wood might be community clubs but their facilities are both in the City of Melbourne and not in their communities.

Maybe we should have them removed..

They've already been lobbying to have facilities built into the southern stand upgrade incorporating an upgrade of the section between southern stand and their training centre covering over Richmond station.

That will be a hard sell and doesn't fix the issue of a second oval.

I would have thought a new facility somewhere at Yarra Bend Park would be a better bet for them ...

Strangely if you actually reread what you've indicated...and overlay a more reasoned context to Caulfield you might come to realise you've shot yourself in both feet.

You're entitled to your view.

This proposal at Caulfield is for an Administration and Training facility.

How many people on here have visited ( out of the 70K members ) who have actually visited the MCG offices, the AAMI offices or even attended a training session during the year?  Not just at finals time.

It is not for the fans,....... it is for the club, the players and the administration.  And if it is to be in Caulfield, Port Melbourne or Timbuktu, it has to serve that purpose alone.   MCG precinct is DEAD.  It was never an option because no matter what site was proposed, there just isn't enough land available.

This times 1000. First and foremost this is a workplace. Not a cool venue for members to visit every once in a while.

So when Pert said that they had scoured every suitable place in Melbourne and that Caulfield was it, does that mean that if Caulfield falls through any subsequent locations would mean us compromising on our facility (something that they aren't willing to do)?

Hopefully the club gets the Caulfield shindig up and running, otherwise it would appear that we may have backed ourselves into a corner of Caulfield or nothing.

It would be an unmitigated disaster if the club doesn't pull this off.

Especially going so public with its intentions.

They'll use Goschs when we move to Caulfield and will have state of the art facilities built into the southern stand upgrade - they've already been pushing for medical facilities such as MRI machines etc to be included, you can bet everything they've been asking for will be for Collingwood's benefit. They already basically own the Ponsford stand this will be a continuation of that.

I expect it has been made public now because we're far enough into the Caulfield process that there's virtually no risk that it won't proceed. (Remember the saying I've posted before about placing targets after the arrows have landed.)

Casey is not the answer Bluey.

If you did a poll on the satisfaction levels for players, staff and supporters it wouldn't be over 10 per cent in support of Casey.

I trust the club that they have explored every opportunity within the MCG precinct and others close to the city area.

Previous boards have gotten knowhere near this stage in terms of planning and announcements, just hope it all comes to fruition.

What government is going to fund us for our own stand alone facility?

No way the would fund the MFC like they do with other community based clubs Cats, Dogs, Dons etc....

By the sounds of things the MRC need us in there pursuit of development $$$ for their own  exploits and rejuvination of the Caulfield precinct.

I just hope the MFC gets everything they want from this venture and the supporters benefit from this also.

Not wanting to split hairs, but Google says 12k from Melbourne Town Hall to Caulfield Racetrack, and 13k from MCG to same destination - with $6 in tolls!

So just some context on this, but how has the MFC been treated badly by the announcement of this for Tas.  MFC has been 'looking for a home' for what??  20 years or more? That's not the AFL treating us badly.

Yes the AFL might have announced it, but not before the Tas Football Club (current name) and the state govt announced it.
AFL is putting in $10mil of the $70mil, the rest is coming from the State Govt. So don't assume that the AFL is stumping up for it all.  This training base will be for AFL, AFLW, VFL, VFLW, and the junior boys and girls programs (currently the Devils) so it's perhaps got a few more teams to cater for than most, not to mention it will have community facilities too I believe.

Reference is how hard it is for our club to get its training base, is local or state gvt to blame?

They were gifted the flag this year for the resulting $$$$$$$ from merch etc into the AFLs coffers, so nothing would surprise. Channel 7 been wanting them to win one since 2018.

I believe local gvt blocked the plans for a site in the Olympic park/ Aami park precinct or the club couldn’t build what was required. State gvt  has poured out hundred of millions of dollars to support other clubs redevelopment of their existing grounds eg Geelong .. understanding they have existing footprint but all driving by politics vote getting.. A club that bears the name of the city is treated like a 2nd rate citizen, Yet happy to build extend tennis stadiums etc but the MFC is given scraps

Well actually he said none of those things.

Roger Daltrey who got his directions mixed up, Mick Jagger who spoke about the hurricane and Peter Noone who liked Mrs. Brown’s daughter, all are in favour of the Dees new base at Caulfield Racecourse.

I hear Bob Dylan is in favour of it too

"How many years must the Dees supporters wait, before they can have a home ground?

The answer my friend, is blowin' in the wind, ..."

But wait! "Cos the times, they are a-changin' ..."

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
