I don't recall Casey having any corporate naming. My guess is that it is being funded by local council, state gov and the club.

We all know that the journey down the highway is very hard for the unfortunate teams that fill Geelongs quota at GMHBA. Namely all the interstate clubs and then North, the Dogs and us. Geelong are entitled to enjoy that home ground advantage but all clubs should share in the delight of a trip down the highway.

I'd always thought that the Port Melbourne ground offered a good training site if you could get hold of the Australia Post site next door.

There have been growing tensions between footballers and cricketers over access to North Port Oval as the popularity of AFLW increases. Port Phillip Council was relying on the Australia Post site being converted to open space to relieve the pressure on the ground and keep both clubs happy.

The site was earmarked in the Andrews government’s 2018 masterplan for Fishermans Bend to be open space – a document created in close consultation with Port Phillip Council.

But Australia Post has confirmed to The Age it is in “fairly well progressed” sale discussions with the Victorian Department of Education, which is seeking to fulfil a funding commitment in the latest state budget for a new school in Fishermans Bend by 2026.

The City of Port Phillip had responded by also putting in a bid to buy the site, Australia Post confirmed.

I reckon Caulfield is a far more accessible location than Port.

But I've always tgought it would be brilliant to get into the fisherman's bend area at the start of it's development phase.

And caulfield, which of course has all the amenities and infrastructure (including a brilliantly located train station and mutiple bus routes) in the surrounding area, is perfectly located in terms of proximity to the traditional fan base for the dees and the Casey area (where we have a huge sunk cost).

A no brainer really.

Caulfield is great if you live south of the river, but Port Melbourne is more central, and closer to the G. It would probably be easier to make parking available as well.

Caulfield is LITERALLY...not figuratively...but ACTUALLY  the Geo Centre of Melbourne...is does not come any more CENTRAL than Caulfield.

Parking for who...you ??   who cares..No disrespect but training facilities are about the Club and Players.  There is NO WHERE in the Port area that has the potential space that Caulfield has.  As to how amenable either is...  the Port area is easily tied up with traffic . There will be ample parking within any new development...   It will be accessible via all three modes of PT

It's time to move on from this idea of we MUST be next to Mummy G...I mean ffs...    Great Sporting Clubs around the world pick locations that afford the greatest potential to create world class facilities...they are often NO WHERE near where their so called 'heart' exists. 

Caulfield is a very rare opportunity....  if we dont do something we'll be nomadic forever.

Unless we are training during a horse race meeting which I’m tipping we wouldn’t be there is plenty of parking at Caulfield. Serviced by a public transport network and major arterial roads. Ticks all the boxes. Can’t wait for it to happen.

Not asking for sources… but,  from what you hear, will that announcement come with some financial backing? That bit is definitely as important as the first.

i thought Glen Iris was the centre, but there you go.

I should clarify, I mean't Fishermans Bend. There is a heap of space there and plenty of potential. And it is close to the G. 

Yes it is about the club, the players the staff, and the members. And I think it is a better option than Caulfield.

Personally i couldn't care less about the car parking, but there are plenty of members who do.

i remember waverley park was supposedly near the centre, then it moved closer to casey

it's all rubbish and irrelevant, except maybe to those who live close to whatever suburb is the new flavour of the month centre-of-something.

port melbourne/fisherman's bend is a bee's nest of indecision when it comes to development and is over infested with nimbys, could take decades to unravel.

Yeah, my care factor is so low on this that I won’t say much but yes - this is for the effing players and staff. It’s got nothing to do with proximity to the G because that was always a dumb reason to locate a training base. It has nothing to do with getting fans there because that is the nuffiest reason (if I can use that as a pejorative adjective - and I think I can) ever conceived on this topic. 

Anyway, yay, one training base…

Port Melbourne is similar driving time to MCG as Caulfield even if Port Melbourne is closer in terms of distance in kms.

When it come to public transport, Caulfield is much quicker to get to. Richmond Station to Caulfield Station in only 10 minutes via the Cranbourne/Pakenham line trains.

mcg precinct was a pipedream then, and the prospect of a caulfield home base is much betterer / more likely
