It's amazing what bugs some people.  Take me for example, the way the social media person at the MFC uses the "+" symbol instead of the "&" symbol in every-f-ing-thing makes me wonder if we've had a work experience kid in at the club at some stage, and we haven't been able to get rid of them.

Are we red plus blue, or red and blue?

Any old editor worth their salt will tell you that to be grammatically correct, the only use of an ampersand ("&") is in names and titles, like "Smith & Jones", "Crosby Stills Nash & Young" or "R&D".

Otherwise, the ampersand (or a plus sign) is never used as a subsititute for "and".

But plus is far easier to spell, and pronounce, than ampersand.

Red + Blue = Purple (Dockers)

OMG is this how we got Harley?

Plans to be in full training by start of Feb 1 by all reports.

Could a May 3/ Round 6 AFL return be too unrealistic.

Two months of full training. 4 games at Casey??

At the very least he should be in the AFL by the mid season bye if all goes well.

It could be argued that they (the MFC social media intern) are trying to introduce a "new" name or title for us, being Red & Blue, which would make the ampersand appropriate in this situation.

Either way, I still think the use of the plus symbol still looks childish.

Looking at all the pics of Harley, was the operation to remove everything slightly resembling a calf muscle? He's going to need a lot of work to build those back up, while not breaking them, again.

No that could not possibly be the case, seriously!

Those scars in the image are surprisingly small though.

and anyway in computer programming the 'and' operation is very different from the '+' operation

Am i right in saying no one else can draft him except us? Or can he get going in Jan and Feb and then another team swoop on him? not sure how it works? possibly been answered on this thread , but you know... 54 pages..

I think in Bennell's case your MFCSS is focused on the wrong issues at hand. He's now a paid employee of the Melbourne Football Club and we have first dibs on him up until around mid-March - it's now up to Harley/his body (the two areas of legit MFCSS concern - although no-one here seems to be getting carried away). Still, it's worth reading the first few pages of this thread and then randomly somewhere in the middle for the lols.

Apart from all colours mixed together brown, the red + blue = purple was always my go to in finger painting.

Would love to know why now and not closer to the deadline. The idea of taking pressure of his rehab just doesn't make sense to me. If the emotional toll of being without a contract was going to snap his calves then how's he meant to deal with playing week to week?

I know we have the Nietschke spot free as well but I'm a little nervous we'll find out we've lost another player to a long term injury or some other bad news now.

perhaps there really was an offer from Port Melbourne

Anyway... welcome aboard and let's hope this has a great ending

happy so excited GIF

So he has a rookie spot.

What are the rules around rookies? Can they play at any time or do they take the spot of a player on the senior list?

I was trying to find some info. Anyone got a link? TIA

I think it tells you that it wasn't his calves they were testing but his attitude. He's throwing everything at this chance and that's what they wanted to see before taking the leap.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
