Wouldn't have picked that of you, OD. What denomination? Our Brothers of the Perpetually Underachieving Weideman?

I see a fortunate resolution to this dilemma. In the very pages of the good book!

Verily, it is written: I say unto ye,  it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Also it is written: thy pastor doth desire to driveth a fast car, so cougheth up

Very sharp this morning MR. More likely the church of perpetual failure.

Alex Rance was a great player and even the greatest of players have lowered their colours on occasions.

He was the general down back full stop! That is what we  need S May to be for us. It goes along way to success.

His influence was second to none and in one way l am glad that he won't be playing against us but admire him for his love

for his club and  comradery.  A great player and a great career, Well done

I hope Rance doesn't join the Hell's Angels.  Then he'd knock on your door and tell YOU to go away.

He's out.  Doesn't matter to me where he is going.  I like that it stitched the Tigers up a bit (it may have changed their drafting and trading strategy), and will cost them some cap.  They will also need to find a long term replacement.  We would be howling if one of our top 4-5 players decided to retire like this.

I also ask how it came to this.  Should Rance have 'surprised' the club like this?  Did he know for a while?  Was it a re-injury?  Did he not like the effort he had to put in?  I imagine if this were a demons player, we would be crying foul relating to player management, connection between club and player and appropriate player monitoring.  The timing is dreadful for them.

How the hell did Islam get into this conversation? What has it to do with Alex Rance?

My two bob's worth is that I despise everything Alex Rance stands for. For a start there is/was his insatiable capacity to stage and act for free kicks etc etc. There were the acts of thuggery - you tube squirrel grips, for example - the platitudes of 'spirituality', all of which, to me, add up to a man who is a seriously deluded hypocrite. I don't really care that he was a talented AFL footballer, I guess I just hate all forms of hypocrisy and self delusion.

Serena Williams the swearing shining light of good sportsmanship is also a JW.
She should hang up the raquet to concentrate on her bible study too.

If Grimes gets injured the Tigers are in some trouble

Nothing to do with Mr Rance. My mother used to tell me that going to church on Sunday did not make you a good person, it was the other six days of the week that determined your worth.

I figured his ego wouldn't have liked seeing the Tigers win the flag without him last year.

very good defender but not in the greatest ever debate for me

This is a pretty bold assumption that he has an ego that wouldn't have liked seeing his team do well.

the Richmond salary cap team will be having  a field day front loading all the remaining stars to allow for the next free agent raid at the end of 2020

Do we need to organise a welfare check on Bruce?

Good idea. I don't think he's ever fully recovered from Cyril's early retirement.

All I will say is, if he played for us, people on here would be having a fit over his retirement.

He was a great player and lets not rewrite history.

Our forwards will have a better chance to do well,  when we play the Tigers in future.

Nah...he was a great player, like him or not.

All players lower their colours at some stage, the talk about him not being good in one on one contests is just talk.

Like Scarlett & Fletcher they used him to zone off, doesn't make him any less effective.

Some games he virtually won for the Tiges by being an impassable wall.

+1

Agree

Good riddance. He's a rubbish bloke who consistently got away with dirty tactics, yet was lauded for being a fair player.

He was a good footballer, but very overrated by media and clueless football pundits. He's nowhere near the best defenders like Scarlett, Fletcher etc. He's not even the best defender in his team - Grimes takes that honor.

Good luck to him door-knocking for the sky wizard.

Assuming his retirement is genuine, I applaud him.

Professionalism and money means that players want to continue playing on longer than they should.

He goes out on his own terms, without diminished worth or value.

Just wish more players would take his lead.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
