Some quotes from my favourite author, Haruki Murakami, that could probably be applied more to Demonland than the MFC:

I'd be smiling and chatting away, and my mind would be floating around somewhere else, like a balloon with a broken string.

I probably still haven't completely adapted to the world," I said after giving it some thought. "I don't know, I feel like this isn't the real world. The people, the scene: they just don't seem real to me."
Midori rested an elbow on the bar and looked at me. "There was something like that in a Jim Morrison song, I'm pretty sure."
People are strange when you're a stranger.

Everything is there but there are no parts. Since there are no parts there's no need to replace one thing with another. No need to remove anything or add anything. You don't have to think about difficult things just let yourself soak it all in. For Nakata nothing could be better.

“Got up today, what a day, thanks a million.

I spent too much time wondering why I got an opinion, yeah.

I know you wanna try and get away,

But it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever know.”

Who was the nerd who deleted my post, and why?

Would people honestly take offence to that, when others can joke in every thread about wanking themselves stupid?

Double standards dude.

Yeah, sorry about that. But there are standards to uphold. Not just on this web site, but in society.

We can stand repeated egregious spelling, grammar & above all, apostrophe errors. We can stand threads getting derailed within 2 posts (like this one). We can stand the massive carbon footprint from continual litigation of the "it was injuries/no it wasn't" post-mortem of 2019.

But there are some things that simply cannot be permitted to stand. Perhaps you will bear that in mind next time you post.

MFCSS by Joseph Conrad...

"I raised my head. The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds, and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under an overcast sky--seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness."

Heart of Darkness

Not a first line, but a last line: “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Sums up my relationship with the dees

'You're my only friend.....and you don't even like me

God

"Well I'm living in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line"

Bob Dylan. 'Shelter from the Storm'.

From 'Blood on the Tracks'.

Applies more to Demonland, but:

"I was bored as [censored], sitting around and thinking all this morbid stuff"
- Morbid Stuff, PUP

“And I got all your good advice

Never stops me from going through these things twice,

I see the knives out, I turn my back,

I hear the train coming, I stay right on that track”

Paul Kelly, Dumb Things - could have written it for Simon Goodman at the end of 2019 season.

My goodness. That's wonderful writing.

"We were somewhere around 1965 on the edge of a premiership drought when the drugs began to take hold."

~~ Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a Demon fan in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a flag."

~~ Pride and Premiership

"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since: don't follow Melbourne."

~~ The Great Gatsby

Hope.

Just when I had made my today secure,

With safe yesterdays,

I see tomorrow coming with it’s pale glass star called hope.

It shatters on impact, and falls like splinters of cruel rain.

And I’ve seen the red and blue oil of life running from my wrists onto tomorrows headlines.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
