It's been doing the rounds that only days after Burgess signed with the MFC there was an offer tabled for a significantly larger deal from a bigger EPL club than The Gunners. A potential exit from the MFC contract was explored but not forthcoming, and the offer subsequently did not progress any further.

Anyway, our new High Performance Manager has been described as reluctantly being at the MFC.

I don't care how reluctant he is, as long as he realises (which I'm sure he does) that the big offers stop coming when you are associated with stinking rabid failure.

Welcome to Melbourne, Darren Burgess!

Honestly, he is an employee of the club and IF he received a better offer I would imagine he would quit like any employee and move on. He is still with us so lets move on.

Not very familiar with soccer tbh, but heard a very similar thing albeit was told it was a French club that VERY nearly won him over. That's one of the reasons I'm concerned he seems to only be signed for 1 year.

Not sure how much I buy the 'reluctant' part given he's started his work much earlier than he had to though.

player health and ability to run out games and over run opposition late must be due go burgess. There us a marked improvement since his arrival. I sure hope mfc has an off sider learning what he does because I'm sure he will take a bigger offer when it presents itself.

Must resign long term. Difference on fitness and health to what Misson had the team at over the last decade is astronomical

Right now his only contracted for another 6 games (+ finals if we make it).

As if he'd leave Melbourne to join some mickey mouse European soccer team. He's with the big boys now, in the AFL, and working for Melbourne the first and biggest club in the land. My good money is that he's not going anywhere.

It's truly incredible what he has done with this list.
We were given great access through the 'To hell and back' series and he not only has them fit and healthy, but he built their confidence and belief in themselves.  He can be signed for life as far as I'm concerned.

A figure like Burgess can also attract players to the club, especially ones like Harley Bennell who have had a bad run of injuries.

In the early-ish stages of COVID I was told he was locked in for next year, bit worried about that now given nothing has been announced though. Maybe there's some contract stuff going on given the soft cap is coming down and we're looking at a shuffle in the footy department?

Imagine how much better we will be of burgo goes and Goodwin stays ??

Peter Jackson

Paul Roos

Jason Taylor

Simon Goodwin

Darren Burgess

Burgess should be counted as one of the primary appointments and reasons behind our success. Our fitness. Our resilience.  Our reduced injury toll.

Burgess has installed the physical belief in the team.  You work hard. You get the benefits.

Thank you Darren Burgess. Another of our premiership heroes.

And I am next to certain that you see him shedding tears with Goody towards the end of the game. Hopefully he has enough of a bond for him to want to stay. Why can’t we maybe have him live in Adelaide but basically do Telehealth,  plus fly over weekly for 2 days?

Forget Player Sponsorship, let's get a Burgo Sponsorship aha

I hadn't thought about that but someone raised in on here recently, seems like a great solution. Have him based in Adeialde but fly in/fly out every week or 2 for a week. He does seem like he gives a lot of game day as well though (seeing him speaking to Goody during the game on Sat was interesting) so it might not be feasible. Maybe is he is overseeing someone else?

Was it Pert who said they were grooming an understudy internally if he does leave?

From what i've seen/heard, the club has a plan B in place if he does decided to leave, but it's a conversation between him and Pert that has to happen there.

Dan McPherson sounds like he'll be leaving though, so not sure if we will promote within to that position, or if we'll bring someone in from the outside.

i am under the assumption that burgess specifically recruited selywn griffith as his own replacement

he was previously at the bears for a long period of time

it's hard to see the 'program'  changing given it has been an obvious success

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
