Don't think so.

Of our TEN Sunday games a max of 4 are in the FTA time slot, if Ch7 schedule all the Sunday 3.20 games.  That is really horrible for sponsors.  We have no Thursday or Saturday night games so no sponsor exposure there either.

The extra game at the G for losing Darwin will really cost as we lose the NT money and will be lucky to break even on the replacement game at the G, as they are are all against low drawing or i/state sides.  Hawks is a big club but their fans don't go to ho-hum games.

Also, I don't see this as a draw that will attract many new members.  In fact we may struggle to keep those that we have.  Other than Rich and Coll there are very few Home games in the 'must-go-to-as-it-will-be-a-ripper' category.

As an aside, losing Darwin has not benefited us at all from a travelling view as go i/state 7 times.  So we still have 3 long haul flights: 2 to Perth and 1 to Alice.  I'm pretty sure the NT games have counted as 2 long-haul games.  Next year the Darwin trip has been replaced with an additional trip to Perth.  iirc correctly we don't usually travel i/state 7 times (6 away + Alice).

It's a glass half empty/full scenario really. At the end of the day the major factor in all this will be our performance. Play like 2019 and it won't matter who we play and when we will lose out. Play like 2018 and the sky's the limit.

We got a home game against the bombers this year so the next 10 years will be away games.

We played Bombers as home team last year because we were away on Queens Birthday. AFL said years ago that the reason we didn't host Essendon was because we got to host the Pies. So we should theoretically get home games against the Bombers every other year.

Geez Gill really wants little Gaz to be cherry ripe for the finals,

As per usual Geelong get kissed on the proverbial - only 2 interstate games after round 11 (Port and Brissy) they have 6 at GMBHA including 3 in a row in rounds 19,20,21 and 4 out of 5 in rounds 19-23 (exhausting trip to Marvel and the Saints in round 22) and then the remaining games split between the G and Marvel (the G is not an away game for them - they play there 5 times in the season)

Geelong’s blessed draw annoys me every year. That we a drawn to play down there nearly every season is one of my pet peeves with the fixture.

And the excuse that Melbourne have a small membership base, so can ‘fit’ at the ground, drives me nuts.  Ticketing down there is set up to make it a 95% Geelong crowd so it doesn’t matter what size membership the opposition team have.

Its the kind of stuff we smaller clubs have to cop, but just once I’d love to see those Essendon/Collingwood/Richmond jerks play down there.

If Geelong want to play Home finals at GMBHAXYZ Stadium then they should be stripped of all Home games at the G during the year.

In fairness Geelong actually want to play all 11 home games down there.

It’s the AFL who don’t have the guts to send Collingwood, Hawthorn, Richmond and Essendon down there.

Is there any chance Geelong can actually play the last round away from GMHBA stadium. They have played at GMHBA stadium in the last round every year since 2012 onwards. This 1 reason i believe there finals record has been crap since as they have too much of a soft kill.

Weĺ put..

Accepted opinion now commonly noted is cats are a great home and away side. But draw favours then get them found out in finals.

I think our season and our reputation will rest on rounds 3 to 11 as we play 2019 low or middle of the ladder teams (excl Rich rnd 6).  And 8 of the first 12 games are at the G.  If there was ever a time to establish ourselves at the G and make it our fortress, this is it!!

Beating WCE and GWS would be a dream start and sets up our season.  Even if we don't beat them we can easily be 8W/4L by the bye. At the bye we will know whether we will pushing up hill to make the finals or heading for top 4.

An early call - I'm tipping we will be on our way to make the top 4.  If we are 7/5 or better our confidence will be up and players fresh after playing only one game in the three weeks between round 10 and round 14.

Go Dees!!

I don't really mind most of the season. My only peeve is with round 1. Playing West Coast in the middle of the afternoon in early autumn is suicide for any team, including West Coast. Why the AFL have scheduled any match in the afternoon there for the first few rounds is unfathomable. Plus, adding in a 6 day break after dying on Optus Oval has really [censored] me off.

Should be aiming for 14 wins minimum with that draw.

Should be aiming for 14 wins minimum irrespective of the draw.

I hope the club doesn't indulge in Demonland Groupthink (Trademark pending) and start assessing the likelihood of wins and losses on the vagaries of the draw.

I’ll rephrase.

As a supporter, I am hopeful that with the draw we have for next season, we win at least 14 games.

We manage to play Cats in Geelong again. Anyone know when we last played them at the G when playing them once for the season?

well  we played them at home  late one season in 2006 I think in front of a crowd of 75,000 at the MCG which we duly won. That was a ripping game. One of the best I've seen, behind only the Hawks / dees merger game.

You have to be an ornithologist to decipher this fixture

In the monochrome (blue/white) information sent out by the club, but prepared by the AFL, I had no idea which team the bird represented which turned out to be Hawthorn. Could have been any one of Eagles, Magpies, Crows, or Hawks. Clearly the marketing people at the AFL are idiots. But we already know that.

Can anyone enlighten me to the marketing strategy of denoting "China" at the bottom?

let alone find china, it's like Where is Wally?

We have six X 6 day breaks and one 5 day break. The problem isn’t the number of breaks but that GWS will come into our Rnd 2 clash with an extra day rest, same for Gold Coast when we play them in Rnd 5 and then again the Tigers get the extra day when we play them Anzac Day.
I’m sure there are roundabouts, where we get the upper hand, but to be disadvantaged three times in the first six rounds sucks a bit.

In 10 years we'll be begging the CEO to get us out of Tasmania. Looks like we'll be a permanent fixture for years to come.

Yeah, I'm not impressed with that either.

4 games down there in 5 years isn't on. And without fail they all end in heartbreak.

Time for some other VIC clubs to play in Hobart.

Yes Collingwood and Essendon, it's possible you can play in these fixtures too. I believe Hobart has a set of goal posts and a couple of changing rooms as well.

Agree totally re Collingwood, Hawthorn, Richmond and Essendon. It’s basically an 8 point game down there for us. Geelong are the only club in Victoria that has a true home ground advantage and we get scheduled there every year.
