Rivers would be the more versatile defender but for mine Sharp is an underrated ball user and decision maker.  Watched him play seniors after the Championships and he stood out as the best player on the ground. Kick was penetrating off half back and wasn't phased by the greater pressure in the seniors with his decision making.

And yes AF he's bigger than Vince and a good athlete at Aquinas College. He wouldn't be as hard at it as Bernie 

Spoke to someone last night who believes he's unlikely to get to us with the Cats pretty keen. They have been into him all year. He also expects Brissy to take Robertson who he knows Cats have also been monitoring

“I'd be taking Luke Jackson every day. And I'd be taking him at pick No.2, too, behind Rowell.”

“He (Jackson) just might be so good that you have to take him at that pick, even if he's not exactly what you need right now. I like that he gets involved around the ground, he averaged nearly 20 touches in the colts this year. The Brodie Grundy comparisons are right."

“We would take Luke Jackson. We think it's just so hard to find a player like him and with his qualities.”

“Luke Jackson in a heartbeat. He's a rare player.”

“I would definitely be tempted to pick Luke Jackson, but it would take a lot of courage to do it. He intrigues me and it's rare what he can do at his size."

6 would have taken Young.  2 are definite but maybe 4 are qualified and the rest because of his elite kicking.

Young vs Jackson will be interesting as time goes on. I think Young was the safer choice, given that he is exactly what he need, but also has an extremely high football IQ, and skills off both feet (rare for a leftie). I suspect many teams will regret overlooking Young. He is something else. But, at least we have overlooked him taking a massive risk, and I like that. Its the only way you'd not take Hayden Young IMO. Which is, if you think you've found something unique, an X factor talent that "could" be a once in a generation player. There is a big risk in taking players like Jackson, but there are a few indicators suggesting he may live up to the hype. One of those (for me) is that he brings down a lot of rebounds in basketball, and does so against a high quality (world class) opposition. I believe this indicates that he could do similar as a deep forward, but instead of taking down boards, it will be clunking marks. We do need that. In addition, what better time to bring in a young ruck during a Gawn era, where he can learn from the very best. So I don't mind the pick. We will survive if he flops anyway, I reckon we have a good list and this was a free hit, so good on Taylor and good luck to Jackson and Pickett.

This is why I don't understand people getting hung up on academy selections pushing us back. We were never going to have access to those players anyway. We will have exactly the same access to players at 32 as we would at 30 as we would at 28

If he can stay looking this cocky after his first year of AFL i'll be happy....

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I'd seen the extended highlights of Jackson, Pickett too and if you have a look at them you must at least be a little more convinced than before. Also if you listen to the interview with Jackson, you will see he is keen to be here and loves Melbourne, the town. 

 

I had a chat to Luke Jackson today while on a break from work in front of AFL house and he is a friendly, easy going, and level headed kid.

Was more than happy to chat and spoke genuinely about the opportunities at MFC and is smart enough to know he is a good fit for what our team need and is super excited by it including working with Max.

Was going to chat more until a friendly 3AW dude jumped in (who was equally as excited for MFC as he was also an MFC supporter) asked him a few more questions. He has also spent a fair bit of time in Melbourne through rep sides for basketball and footy so aren't concerned by the go home factor with him at all ...

I’m not a big believer in the go home factor but apart from us drafting Rivers the Pies might’ve done us a little favour picking Jay Rantall. He was Jackson’s room mate in the Aus juniors basketball team.

He’ll be moving up from Warrnambool and right next door to the Dees. Yeah he’s the opposition but I’d rather our players be mates with super professional opponents than be friendless or hanging out with trouble makers.

About a quarter of those drafted this year seem to have come from WA. Even if we accept the strength of the “go home factor” that so many seem concerned about, I don’t see how the two WA clubs can accommodate all of this year’s WA draftees supposedly wanting to return home from their respective non WA clubs in a couple of years or so. Player list number restrictions, salary cap, trade requirements - don’t see how West Coast and Freo can pull off bringing all those players - and that’s just from this year‘s draft - back to WA.

But they will only want to bring home those draftees who turn out to be good.  Many will fall by the way.  Hopefully not ours.

Anyone Looking at the interview on our website from Ben Gibson that  could deduce a go home factor or negative attitude is purely set for Sec or Pres of MFCSSS for the next 5 years.

Luke was smiling answering promptly and enthusiastically and quite relaxed. He clearly was so pleased with himself and his No 3 pick to the Dees.

As indicated by 1858 he had already been in rep teams in both Basketball  and AFL Championship  so he understands that at the top level you are on the move and success can be achieved at any location.

I think this is  a great time fir any recruits to join our Club as I believe the atmosphere this pre season is almost the best in wanting to atone for 2019.

Most sports people and many Dees fans know this year was our annus  horriblus And couldn't be repeated. Whether we attain 2018 standards is uncertain but if we give it everything and have few injuries there may be no ceiling on our comeback.

Says here he did real good in the war.

I hope he ain’t gonna be a hard case.
