So with just 35 on our list and 2 selections, how do we get the senior list to 40

Is that including Langdon and Tomlinson?

Murray and Sam Gray are both decent chances to join us as delisted free agents IMO.

Two of my favourite players ....perhaps because I saw them give their best so often for Casey.

I have often been critical of the way they were played at Casey (inside mids mainly) which was obviously intended to build up their strength but it did little to build their skills in the break away area.

Would they have made it under different circumstances. Probably not but few players have emerged from what has been a dominant VFL team. Perhaps it's time to have a look at that area.

Only one in three AFL players ever get to play 50 games so 39 games (JKH) and 47 games for Billy is not a fail by any measure.

Good luck guys

Have you heard anything, m'lord, or is it just opinion (as stated)?

Heard rumours, but not ones I'd hang my hat on just yet, so a little from column A and a little from column B.

no idea why stretch was even drafted. I literally knew the first time I saw him play that he was never going to make it. his ball drop is disgusting.  I wish the club didnt persist with guys when its clear as day.

The AFL stats for Billy’s 47 games has his kicking efficiency in the elite class! So that disgusting ball drop must have worked most of the time.

If Billy doesn’t get picked up I reckon we should offer him a role in training/ development. Young players rave about how much he helped them.

Would we rookie one of them if the cards don’t fall right in the national and PSD? 3 picks in the national draft unless we split pick 3

Not if we want to move forward as a club.

Hope they get another chance some where but they really were only depth for us and not that good at that. This aside wishing both the best for future.

You have said it all Depth Only. A few more to offload and the list might start looking reasonable!

Good on both of them.

Never heard a bad word uttered about either of them and they certainly got the most out of the talent that they have.

I think Stretch's kicking (ball drop included) was quite good.  His issues were in decision making and not being able to find enough of the ball to hurt the opposition.  He lacked talent, not technique.

From what I've heard, both boys were always 110% professional in the way they applied themselves, both on and off the field.  From what I've observed, they were both just a few % off being consistent best 22 players at the top level.  Both gave their all and you can't ask more than that!  They can hold their heads high as they leave the Club and move on to new pastures.

Now the MFC needs to nail the picks for players who will replace them on our list.

Agree with above.  They did better than many aspiring players, on an AFL list for some years.

Difficult time for them, another door will open, another stage in life, AFL or otherwise.

Good luck to both.             and

Good Luck to MFC in the search for two new players.

Billy's first season or so was encouraging, but he never took the next step. Jay a bit the same.

Yet again it shows that, if you are small, you have got to have some serious tricks up your sleeves. Being small and just a vanilla player is never going to end well. I hope the club is all over this for the upcoming draft.

Thanks guys, and good luck with your futures.
It was not for lack of effort that you did not quite make it.  Your application was flawless.
Not everyone makes it in the cutthroat game at AFL level but you have played more games than (almost at least) anyone here.
Listening to the clip of JKH v Tigers, Derwaaaynn was almost as orgasmic as Brooooceee used to get when Cyrrrilllll  had the ball.

I am absolutely sick of certain posters who continually want to put the boot in when there is no need or possible upside for doing so. FFS they have been delisted - there is nothing more that needs to be said. Especially about 2 players who have absolutely given 100% and have been so admired in the club for their attitude. So they didn’t make it. It wasn’t through the want of trying - and they certainly achieved so much more in their careers as AFL footballers then virtually all of us at  Demonland, especially me. What I would have given to have played 40 games for the MFC.

Most posters have been appreciative of their efforts and wished them well. As it should be. As for the other F wits, to use some of your own language, you are simply Demonland list cloggers, and we should get rid of you.

Well said Neil!

Two players that rarely showed anything at AFL level.  JKH just didn't have zip for his size, and billy seemed to have a bit of headless chook about him.

Frosty attracted criticism for turnover, but these guys could rarely hit targets either.

These guys were only ever going to be role players at best.  Richmond have shown that if you are going to be a role player you need to average B+.  You need to fast (A or B Grade) and tough/strong defensively (A or B grade).    JKH was probably a C grade all-rounder; whereas Stretch was only B+ with his speed.

How professional clubs can hang on to players past their clear used-by date is beyond me.  I hope GC picks them up and gives them a contract, but objectively, they aint and never were AFL level.

Agree with everything you've said, but where is your opinion of our recruitment of Jordan Lewis?

I hear what you say but I feel that most of the demonland posters needed to be taught their lesson when they carried on about losing jack watts and how we are going to regret losing him etc. that was embarrassing for the site to have posters that wanted to keep jack watts. it shows a complete lack of knowledge about the game. and like Watts,  stretch shouldve been gone 4 years before they were let go. Churn and burn and dont waste years developing players that have no talent.

Such is the career of an AFL footballer. They had their opportunities and they now wait to see if they get a second chance.

The other aspect of the delistings is what insights they provide in terms of what the direction it will take in the coming weeks. The club has five vacancies but only two picks of any substance - 3 & 8.

Will it split either or both of those selections? Will it fill the remaining numbers with delisted free agents, a pre season draft selection or upgrade a rookie or two?

Agree. It’s how many feel. Tired of negative posters.  I bit more respect.

All the best to both of them. Hope they are given a chance elsewhere.

Good luck gentlemen, thank you for being dedicated to trying to make the Dees a premiership team, alas it was not to be on either front.

Always sad to see players go,  who did everything right only to not quite  make it. They can certainly leave with their heads held high.

I really wanted Billy to make it.

Loved watching his Dad play when I was a kid. One of my all-time favorites.

Best wishes to the Stretch family and JKH.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
