Little whisper we will be nominating Tom Green, if we have pick 3 and will be happy to take him, if not matched by GWS.

He also has a brother in the GWS academy, which could make it even more interesting.

Best Available talent with Pick 3 works for me.

Strange as it may seem, I was just reading this profile about him from respected draft watcher Knightmare and I like what I’m reading. He’s the grandson of Michael Green, former Tiger premiership ruckman who studied law with me at Melbourne Uni.

AFL Draft Wrap: Shades of Patrick Cripps in GWS academy prospect Thomas Green

“Green possesses an imposing physical profile at 190cm, 88kg and provides a similar impact around the ball to Patrick Cripps.”

Just wondering if there’s any vision around because it would be tempting to have a crack at this bloke?

GWS will take him regardless, but it really opens the door to trade that pick to GWS beforehand to give them 2 bites at the cherry. We get pick 6 plus something else enticing. Great potential for a win-win trade.

It would be interesting to see how he goes because if he is rated enough for around pick 3 and our recruiters feeling comfortable about using that pick for him potentially I'd be totally fine with us nominating him to prevent GWS from getting a basic free hit at him.

Micheal Green married a Sierakowski to add to the pedigree. Quality people to go with the physique, maturity and ability. Take him

I’d wager London to a brick that we’ve told GWS we intend to nominate Green if we keep pick 3 and will happily keep him, however we’re also open to the possibility of a trade if they can get us back a pick in the top 10 plus another first rounder/early 2nd, maybe more.

12 & 18 for 6 is a guide.

3 for... 6 & something in the early 20s?

How much do you value sliding back 3 slots at the pointy end?

Then factor in the high value for GWS because of what they can do with it.

Very good player- but I feel whatever we bid, they’ll match.

Therein lies the rub. If they have to match, better to get something decent for Bonar, then throw that in with 6 to us for pick 3.

I was reading earlier on the AFL website that if Jacobs nominates GWS as a free agent their Tomlinson compo will slide back to the 3rd round from the 2nd round. Alternatively they'd have to agree to a trade with Adelaide. Will this impact what they are capable of allocating to makeup the difference to pick up Green?

This guy isn’t gonna play for us but thank [censored] for Tom Green bringing value back to our pick 3 after the AFL reamed us

We just make it plain we will be nominating for Green so let’s do a deal with pick 3 vs your Pick 6 and a player of our choice and some swapping of back end picks or next years to make it work. But who would we want and realistically get from GWS in this scenario? Would they move on a key forward or pacey outside mid?

It sounds like it'd be akin to having two Oliver's in the middle.

Is there any chance GWS wouldn't match our bid, or is all the noise and movement with St Kilda, GWS saying they're desperate for Green?

Would be a great pick up for player morale, but i worry that he may be too old and past his best.

Haha beat me to it. Thought the exact same thing when I saw the thread.

Miss Green was my grade 2 teacher in 1963 at St Scholastica's East Burwood. She was Michael Greens sister and a goddess to us little tackers. I would be so happy if this came to pass.

Very touching but my priority is that he can play footy big time!

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
