This is a very tough subject and I believe MFC is supporting Kk in many ways both financially and emotionally.  Obviously he loves the game which has been his life, but the longer term issues mean Kk should probably be listed as a long term injury for 2020. He should not even consider playing this year. His continued mental state and ability to function must be prioritised.

This club is as weak as [censored] sometimes. I'm absolutely for looking after Kade and his long term health, even though the club didn't do its homework and gave a three year contract to a bloke with significant health issues. But that clearly is not going to be as an AFL footballer, and we need to do what is right for the club.

Let Kade get himself right so that he can live a normal life, give him all the support he needs, but get him off the list and find someone who can help the club in 2020.

You do realise he can be put on the LTI list and replaced for 2020?

Even if KK was not on our list, we'd still be replacing him with a player on minimal coin. Doubt he's on much either, possibly loaded with incentives, given his injury history.

Some recent research has identified a possible therapy which might help KK, Shaun Smith and all the other sufferers of concussion. Essentially, it's making use of "blue light" for 30 minutes in the morning. It's an interesting approach (and a very quick read in plain English). I'm ambivalent about it's value, though, as it seems to me it might provide short-term benefits but do nothing to resolve the long-term damage ie, CTE) caused by concussion.

I say I'm ambivalent because while I'd like to see an effective treatment for the symptoms, I wouldn't want footballers returning to the field when they have resolved these symptoms if the underlying damage is still there.

needs to be some serious thought given to salary cap relief plus AFL level financial compensation. This is a league issue that should quite properly be borne by the whole of the league.

To do otherwise invites inconsistency.

i know the AFL like a story but i'm sure reports/stories like the ones coming out aren't helping KK (even if true)

I think for his long term life benefit he should be placed on the LTI list and we should recruit a Marlon Pickett type, would be one surely floating around.

Doing the right thing for his health, crazy to give him a 3 year contract in the first place though when he was cooked.

Do all list spots have to be filled?

Don't think so. But with question marks over this year's draft surely taking a chance on a recycled player is better than wasting a spot.

With pressure on list sizes why would he stay on the list after a payout?

I'd say it's all around how his salary is managed for the cap. He might have agreed to a payout from the club of say $100k which is all that will be counted in the cap but if he were let go from the list then his full salary, maybe say $400k would have been counted, so it'd be a cost saving measure - I have no idea about figures so don't quote me! but I'm guessing they'll keep him on the list then once lists are finalised then he'll retire, and we'd be hopeful they might allow a top up like how we got Bennell/Brown or even a mid season draft.

Yeah that’s right mate, Mahoney is a dud. Really!!!! In one year we recruit Jackson, Kosi, Rivers, Langdon and Tomlinson. Not wrapped in the latter but I regard it as the best recruiting year for a very long time . The three kids will all play 200 games , hopefully for us

Tomlinson was a mistake, he came to fill the wing role and he was unable to do that. As a result we are looking for a new wingman this year. Mahoney has more of a role than trading than drafting so please don't give him credit for drafting

If he is paid out presumably it will be in this year's sal cap.

He may be kept on the list so he can still access medical and other support services for another year, which I would agree with.  He could be kept on the rookie list.

Only guessing.

As to the 200 games, looked at another way, three WA boys,, so we will see. Langdon was targeted as good players should. we were sold Tomlinson as a wingman.

The list managet and coaches would be choosing the trade targets, identifying tbe draft targets and what pick numbers they want for those targets, not Mahoney (although as part of the football department I'm sure he is involved in the discussions).

Mahoney's role, as GM of Football (effectively the business manager of the football dept), is more likely to be involved in the negotiations/trading to acquire those targets

I don’t think Tomlinson is a bad get. He may not end up the wingman we need but he’s certainly a steady back men and may well yet carve out a spot for himself

Neither do I Rif. If there is a perfect recruiting department I have yet to see it. I think some are getting little tough on our ability in this area over the last few years.
